This has been an issue for a few weeks now in a bearable way, but it’s getting a bit worse lately.
Sometimes it appears to be adverts slowly loading and once they’ve appeared the site works again, but sometimes it’s stopping completely and nothing on the screen works at all and I have to swipe safari away and begin again. This isn’t happening on any other website.

I’m in the mobile version on safari. I’ve cleared cookies. I’ve turned my phone off and on again.

Threads won’t load for me atm.

Allergictoironing · 19/01/2025 11:58

Same for me, on Chrome on a desktop. Chrome is up to date, no ad blockers. I can't even always close Chrome, so I just minimise it & do something else then Chrome eventually closes some time later. Combining that happening then 5 mins later getting that spam "security" thing is getting really distracting

AcrossthePond55 · 19/01/2025 15:11

FWIW I did change my posts per page to 50 and it appears to have worked on the thread I was having the most problems with. I've closed and opened the thread about three times and it was fine. Time will tell.

HobnobsChoice · 19/01/2025 19:38

I'm not even using an adblocker and I've always kept it at 100 posts per page. Having to use Private Browsing for one single website is ridiculous. Literally no other website I use including the dreadful Reach media sites have these issues.

JoMumsnet · 19/01/2025 11:05

Hi everyone,

We're sorry that the site's not running smoothly for some of you. We're looking into what could be causing these issues, but in the meantime please try the suggestions in Hebe's post above, namely -

  • using private browsing
  • removing ad blockers
  • reducing your posts per page view in settings to 25, 50 or 100 posts per page rather than view all messages

Thanks for bearing with us. We'll be back with an update just as soon as we can.

The only thing which seems to work is the private browser. And I’m not prepared to use that long term. Bonkers.

Gatekeeper · 19/01/2025 20:05

Its almost unusable right now for me. Android phone using chrome. Off to read a book instead

Vallmo47 · 19/01/2025 20:24

Same for me - had to swap to chrome and delete the app. I also reported it a while back and it wasn’t resolved. Only ever happens on safari for me though but only on mumsnet. Disappointing as I’m less likely to use site now

comedycentral · 19/01/2025 20:25

Same here, I thought it was my phone, was considering a factory reset!

Shodan · 19/01/2025 20:28

It's just started happening today for me.

Desktop on Chrome.

Threads randomly disappear and I'm left with a white screen. Tis most irksome.

Allergictoironing · 19/01/2025 21:48

OK this is getting silly now. 5 times in under 5 minutes - including while on the "virus scam" thread here on Site Stuff (also on the "Ring Out Wild Bells" Excellent Cats thread in the Litter Tray (3 times on the same thread).

They do seem to coincide with the very quick blank moment you get when the lower ad to the right of the screen changes, suggesting it's the ads and maybe related to the virus scam issue.

JenniferBooth · 19/01/2025 23:53

FGS Again Please sort it

RocketNan · 20/01/2025 00:48

Same here, it has been going on for weeks. Have tried all of the above suggestions. It is still an issue: MN used to be very responsive to issues, but that has changed. If I can’t use the site at a normal speed, without it freezing other windows, I may as well not use it at all.

notimagain · 20/01/2025 08:26

For info:

Freezing/lagging was so bad this AM that I finally resorted to the deleting browsing history.

That immediately restored normal service with forum pages loading instantly and page side adverts loading within a second or so.

Just two’ish hours later the rate of loading of adverts has already perceptibly slowed down and pages are starting to freeze for a second or two before becoming active.

Agree completely. It's not a workable suggestion also to be honest given how many posters have commented about the issue on multiple threads for the past few months I really don't think this is a small problem so I'm a little frustrated by the tone of the response saying it's not working for some of you.

AMouseWithValour · 20/01/2025 08:37

Me too! Thought it was my phone. It’s been going on for about three weeks now.

i’m on an iPhone, no ad blockers, and now I come to think about it, it’s only Mumsnet that’s being slow.

HebeMumsnet · 20/01/2025 11:10

Thank you so much to everyone who has shared information about this problem with us here. It's really useful. We're continuing to work on it and will update as soon as there's any news. Thanks for your patience. Flowers

I was trying to word my comments to say exactly this without heading for a ban ! You nailed it !

The adverts are a madness - some of them are huge, across the length of my screen. I realise this part is a me problem, but I do think they probably have something to do in general with MN lagging

For info I’m on at least one other forum which has similar format adverts to MN, either full width or down the RHS, and in that place there has never been a hint of the sort of hanging or freezing that seems to be a recurring problem here.

As far as I can see this problem is something unique to MN.

TruthBeautyFreedomLove · 20/01/2025 16:32

Mine keeps crashing and reloading a blank page. It's made the site almost unusable today.

RedRosie · 20/01/2025 16:37

Me too, for several weeks.

Newish Android phone and Chrome.

Causes browser to stop responding, only when using MN.

AIBot · 20/01/2025 18:45

I have the same problem - really tricky to read threads, let alone post. It only works in private browsing mode on safari.

Greysonsgrowler · 20/01/2025 18:56

I have had this issue for months. It happens on Mumsnet and ONLY Mumsnet using safari.

I switched to chrome, now I have to put up with the pages reloading constantly out of nowhere and taking me back to the top of the thread constantly.

At times the site becomes completely unusable and frozen.

I end up not bothering to persist with trying and give up because the screen can freeze for ages just plain white, nothing loading or the screen is stuck and cannot be scrolled. It will just do it again after closing the page, closing phone browser and reloading the page afresh. It’s irritating.

MurdoMunro · 20/01/2025 19:03

Yup. Just hangs while it tries to load an advert (for something I’m unlikely to want anyway) that never comes. Only here. Been happening on and off for weeks. Nothing to do but give up and go somewhere else in my time wasting window and look at their content between the adverts

Started about a week ago intermittently - now today it is going to a white screen every few minutes. Impossible. Only MN - they need to fix whatever the hell is wrong with it.

mrswhiplington · 21/01/2025 14:15

Another one here. It's been happening for weeks. No problems with any other site. Hope it's fixed soon or it's the end of MN for me.
