This has been an issue for a few weeks now in a bearable way, but it’s getting a bit worse lately.
Sometimes it appears to be adverts slowly loading and once they’ve appeared the site works again, but sometimes it’s stopping completely and nothing on the screen works at all and I have to swipe safari away and begin again. This isn’t happening on any other website.

I’m in the mobile version on safari. I’ve cleared cookies. I’ve turned my phone off and on again.

Hello @MarleyAndMarleyWoohooohooohooohoooo we’re sorry you’re having these issues - it sounds very frustrating. We will look into this but in the meantime, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot:

Ensure your version of Safari is up-to-date.

Try Safari's private browsing mode. This bypasses certain cookies, cache, and extensions that may be interfering - let us know if the issue persists.

Also, can we check if you’re using any ad blockers - these can cause similar issues.

To help us investigate on our side, please let us know:
iOS version
Safari version
Type of phone (e.g., iPhone 12 Pro)
Specific page where the freezing occurs
Info about any ads loading when the issue occurs.

Thank you.

I left this as I assumed it was my phone that was the problem, but I got a new phone yesterday, iPhone 16, latest operating system, everything as up to date as possible.

It happens anywhere, no real pattern. It happens if I’m using wifi or 5g. The page just stops and freezes, and I have to swipe away the page and reload it.

Mumsnet is the only place it happens.

Me too

Hi there @MarleyAndMarleyWoohooohooohooohoooo . Sorry to hear you're still having problems with this on the new phone. Have you tried the suggestions from @BeckyAMumsnet above? Using private browsing and removing ad blockers has worked for most people with this issue. You could also try reducing your posts per page view in settings to 25, 50 or 100 posts per page rather than 1000.

Let us know how you get on with that and let us know if you still have no joy.

SleepingisanArt · 13/01/2025 11:36

It's the adverts I think. I'm using android and have the same - slow loading and sometimes having to double click to get a thread to open. I've had the 'this page is not responding' message several times. I have a modern tablet, latest version of android, don't use ad blockers and have the site set to latest 100 threads (its the same if its 25, 50 or 100!). It's only MN.

MarleyAndMarleyWoohooohooohooohoooo · 13/01/2025 13:14

I don’t use ad blockers and my screen is already set to 25 posts.

I’ll have a go in private browsing.

Same issues, same setup as above. Agree it seems to be advert related, is unique to Mumsnet and often renders the site unusable.

TBH "use private browsing mode" is a bit of a rubbish response rather than trying to rectify the issues. Having run web-based services in the past we'd never have put it on the users to provide the fix rather than trying to figure out where we'd messed up.

MarleyAndMarleyWoohooohooohooohoooo · 13/01/2025 13:28

Have used it for a few minutes in private and it’s still doing it.

Just came on to look for this issue as it is driving me nuts! It’s been happening a while and making it difficult to look at more than one thread before freezing again.

Hoover2025 · 15/01/2025 14:10

I had this. The only way I found fixes it is using google chrome instead.

AmyW9 · 16/01/2025 16:44

Having this issue on Android. The site is constantly freezing whenever I scroll, usually over an advert, and I have to close Chrome and reopen it to fix.

Dror · 16/01/2025 16:47

Also happening on chrome for me.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/01/2025 16:49

I've been getting this too but I don't bother reporting it because the advice is always "You should jump through x,y and z hoops yet again", but yes it is definitely a site issue.

It feels a bit pointless to report now.
MN used to be quite on the ball with site issues.

Started just after Xmas. I get about 5-10 page views then have to close safari and reopen. Sometimes the ads take ages to open, other times it locks up completely. I agree with PP it’s not my problem it’s a Mumsnet one.

Peanutssuck · 16/01/2025 19:07

Exactly the same problems - on Chrome. MN is the only site it happens on, suggesting that yes MN it's your problem, not all the posters

VoyagerOfTheTeenYears · 18/01/2025 16:57

Me too. Started two or three weeks ago I think. It’s just Mumsnet and it is frustrating. Mobile iPhone user here.

ButtCheeks · 18/01/2025 16:59

Same issue here. iPhone. Everything updated. Drives me nuts!

TiramisuThief · 18/01/2025 16:59

I get the same on Chrome.

It's intermittent, it's not often but it's annoying and it renders Chrome unresponsive and I have to close and reopen

Peanutssuck · 18/01/2025 17:13

I came back to this thread earlier to moan again, but it wouldn't load, and then wouldn't let me comment. @HebeMumsnet @BeckyAMumsnet haven't been forthcoming in replying either. C'mon MN, please sort this out. It's still happening to me and other posters. This is a MN problem

AcrossthePond55 · 18/01/2025 17:14

I'm having the same issue, but only on certain threads. Opening to 'I'm on' or 'Active', etc doesn't lag or not fully open. Just certain threads.

MacBook Pro with Safari 17.6

JenniferBooth · 18/01/2025 19:45

Active convos keeps disappearing. While im on there page just goes white

Aydel · 18/01/2025 19:47

Same here, iPhone on chrome. And it’s just Mumsnet! Safari is a little better.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 18/01/2025 19:50

Another one joining - it is very frustrating and I am not in the mood to jump hoops,
