This has been an issue for a few weeks now in a bearable way, but it’s getting a bit worse lately.
Sometimes it appears to be adverts slowly loading and once they’ve appeared the site works again, but sometimes it’s stopping completely and nothing on the screen works at all and I have to swipe safari away and begin again. This isn’t happening on any other website.

I’m in the mobile version on safari. I’ve cleared cookies. I’ve turned my phone off and on again.

Oh at last, I thought it was my processor was clapping out or something! It's been going on for a while now, but I put it down to the above as I mostly use MN on the desktop. when I should be doing something else

Am I reading your issues right so they might/are the same as mine - ?

The screen freezes, nothing will get moving. I am using MS Edge, and have Chrome open along with Brave. When the freeze happens I go over to another search engine and it's fine for a while. Then the same thing happens and I switch over again.

Is that kind of what OP means? Well if that's the case I'm relieved that it may not be my desktop that's acting up after all. Thank you...

On android using chrome, freezing on the large adverts.have to close and reopen.pita.

Peanutssuck · 18/01/2025 22:00

Any chance of an update MN? Even if it's just a "we haven't got a clue either" update? It would be nice to feel we weren't being completely ignored. MN is an absolute lifeline for me atm

Active convos keeps disappearing. While im on there page just goes white

Now its started doing it on actual threads.

Sandylittleknees · 19/01/2025 07:47

Same here. In safari. It’s making mumsnet almost unusable - and it is only mumsnet.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 19/01/2025 07:49

Me too. Often I have to close Chrome and reopen it.

MrsEmmelinePankhurst · 19/01/2025 07:53

Me too. Using iPhone. It’s far worse in Safari but can happen in Chrome too. I don’t use the MN app because it’s rubbish and lacks features, so that’s not an option. I don’t have ad blockers.

Exactly the same for me with Android/Chrome.

BigDahliaFan · 19/01/2025 07:56

I’ve switched to private browsing. It removes the freezing problem and makes the site usable….

Sandylittleknees · 19/01/2025 07:58

I’m glad this thread is in active.

Theworldisfullofgs · 19/01/2025 08:32

Me too. Android phone using Chrome. Thought it was me but only happens when using mumsnet.

SnarkSideOfLife · 19/01/2025 08:33

So glad to see this, thought it was my iPad but actually other websites are ok so yes it must be MN. Using safari and it’s terrible, the whole website freezes for five minutes at a time, several times a day. Only in the last few weeks.

Yes that sounds like it.
I have to swipe the safari screen completely away to refresh as the whole screen freezes.

@BeckyAMumsnet @HebeMumsnet any updates? Is MNHQ doing anything behind the scenes to fix this?

Smidge001 · 19/01/2025 09:23

Omg, I'm so glad to have spotted this thread. It's been happening to me for ages and even though it only ever happens when I'm on mumsnet, I'd assumed it was somehow my phone's fault. The page just freezes completely.

It's so frustrating and happens all the time. I've had to come out of Chrome and swipe Chrome away/close it, then reopen about 5 times this morning already.

I'm on an android phone using mumsnet via Chrome.

Smidge001 · 19/01/2025 09:28

Oh and to confirm, I don't use ad blockers.

I also don't think 'use private mode' is an acceptable solution.

swashbucklecheer · 19/01/2025 09:31

Me too in chrome! Glad it's not just me!

HobnobsChoice · 19/01/2025 09:32

Another one having this issue. Chrome on an android phone. Freezing and then chrome crashes and I get the little message telling me Chrome is unresponsive. MN is the only site it happens on. I have comments set to 100 per page and always have done. This is a new and MN only issue and I don't want to use incognito mode for one single website. It does put me off using the site

marshmallowhearts · 19/01/2025 09:33

Me too! I thought it was my phone’s fault! I’m on Safari.

TCCOS · 19/01/2025 09:36

Same here, using Chrome on an iPhone.

JellyFlooding · 19/01/2025 09:43

Exactly the same for me, Chrome on android, no ad blocker. Only ever on Mumsnet, and always on Mumsnet.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 19/01/2025 09:55

Oh me too! I also thought it was my phone, but it is only mumsnet, most days I just give up. On iPhone on safari.

Chrismaslights · 19/01/2025 10:08

Me too ! I use an iPad 10 mostly in safari - can only look at a few messages before it freezes. I have to close safari and start again - really frustrating!

JoMumsnet · 19/01/2025 11:05

Hi everyone,

We're sorry that the site's not running smoothly for some of you. We're looking into what could be causing these issues, but in the meantime please try the suggestions in Hebe's post above, namely -

  • using private browsing
  • removing ad blockers
  • reducing your posts per page view in settings to 25, 50 or 100 posts per page rather than view all messages

Thanks for bearing with us. We'll be back with an update just as soon as we can.

Miley1967 · 19/01/2025 11:10

Yes I have this happening all the time on my phone and only with mumsnet. It's really frustrating.

Sandylittleknees · 19/01/2025 11:17

Jo mumsnet - the thing is all those things are also annoying!
