Board for high earners

I see that the other thread was started by an OP who wasn’t engaging in good faith. I certainly am so, Mumsnet, can we please have a separate board for high earners? It would be helpful for these threads to be in one place and to avoid them being high jacked by the inevitable “small violin” and “diamond shoes” comments.

Rubbish. High earners can discuss a lot of things with their peer group, friends and family..

My income, as a single career woman does not define me.

I have friends from varied backgrounds, they don’t have to pass an income level test to appreciate where I’m coming from.

Complete twaddle imo.

Well, it’s good to know you are “not like the other girls” 🙄😅

If it's from Oxford it's a D.Phil. anyway.

Do we have to have an actual D.Phil or can it just be an "in my imagination" thing?

BobbyBiscuits · 08/10/2024 20:32

Can we have one for benefits claimants please? So we can avoid people claiming I'm a drain on society BC I have the misfortune to be too unwell to work.

I mean Birmingham, a PHD from Birmingham isn't a thing in fact is there even a university there?

Id like a board for ugly, poor, dickheads please

Like me 😂😭

JesusOnAYamaha · 08/10/2024 20:32

Isn't DPhil just DHs who are called 'Phil'?

MargaretBetts · 08/10/2024 20:33

😂 I think we could call it ‘Any old PhD board, even if your work area isn’t lucrative enough to hit £seven figures, but it has to be yours, ‘DH’s’ doesn’t count’.

edited as I’m on my phone and blind as a 🦇!

I believe that the correct term is "scrounger"? Avoiding tax on high earnings is efficient planning, claiming £25 so that you can eat is scrounging.

Ahem. I think you'll find that's " DPhil's doesn't count"

BeatrizBoniface · 08/10/2024 20:36

I would like a special board for those of us who eat Lurpak every day.

KingOfPoundbury · 08/10/2024 20:36

...and one for those who wear Crowns and hold that ball thingy.

Radionowhere · 08/10/2024 20:36

All these years I thought people were talking about their daughters, but in fact MN is flooded with Doctors of Divinity!

Has DPhil got a DPhil, or just a run of the mill PhD?

Good idea. You could call it “Considerably Richer Than You”

I really don’t think this demographic is underrepresented on Mumsnet

Why not rename all of the rest of the boards with the prefix ‘Peasant’ while you’re at it. So ‘Peasant Style & Beauty’ ‘Peasant Chat’, and so on.

Love this. Make sure folk know their place.

BringTheWine · 08/10/2024 20:39

For those that don't agree with the board, do you feel a mum should be able to ask a question about private school without getting snarky replies? Or do you think that mum gets what she deserves by daring to ask a question?

A friend of mine asked a question about private school and finances very politely. At least a third of the replies were sarcastic or nasty. Why shouldn't she be able to post a question? Her thread was deleted because she asked for it to be removed. What posters didn't know was that her husband had just died by suicide and she was worrying about everything. Mumsnetters made her feel like shit, 'Making parents lives easier' and 'for parents by parents' eh.

Posters don't want these questions asked on any existing board but then are against a separate board. So again, when mumsnet is for everyone, where can they post on here?

FKAT · 08/10/2024 20:39

Among the community of high earning women, I'm pretty sure there are hundreds of tech and marketing entrepreneurs who could easily create an exclusive internet forum for their cohort to discuss issues with inheritance tax / VAT on schools / how to jump the waiting list for a Birkin bag.

But they won't because it wouldn't make a single penny and the kind of people who would join are the kind of people the founders wouldn't want.

They need us more than we need them. They want an audience bless them.
