Board for high earners

I see that the other thread was started by an OP who wasn’t engaging in good faith. I certainly am so, Mumsnet, can we please have a separate board for high earners? It would be helpful for these threads to be in one place and to avoid them being high jacked by the inevitable “small violin” and “diamond shoes” comments.

What if my GP is called Phil?

Grandparent or General Practitioner?

Hoppinggreen · 08/10/2024 20:39

BeatrizBoniface · 08/10/2024 20:36

I would like a special board for those of us who eat Lurpak every day.

The block or the spreadable?

Spreadable.
Right to the very corners of the bread.

Perhaps a whole one devoted to the issue of VAT on private schools?

Children academically able enough don’t even need to have parents who pay VAT as they get full bursaries.

Starlightstarbright3 · 08/10/2024 20:42

Oh gosh please do we can laugh at the pompous nonsense who don’t understand the real world.

i think you should also have a subsection you can complain about Vat at private schools .. that would clear the mess up.

Mysterian · 08/10/2024 20:42

I would like to look at that board. Not contribute or anything. I know my place. I'd just like to bathe in the glory of my betters once in a while.

The lurpak one or the "I self-identify as rich" one?

I’d be up for a ‘LURPAK IS AN ABOMINATION, ALL HAIL KERRYGOLD’ board.

Or a ‘BAN FLAVOURED YOGHURT’ board.

Hush your mouth. I'll have you know that I have a DPhil. Although my DH is not called Phil.

For those that don't agree with the board, do you feel a mum should be able to ask a question about private school without getting snarky replies? Or do you think that mum gets what she deserves by daring to ask a question?

A friend of mine asked a question about private school and finances very politely. At least a third of the replies were sarcastic or nasty. Why shouldn't she be able to post a question? Her thread was deleted because she asked for it to be removed. What posters didn't know was that her husband had just died by suicide and she was worrying about everything. Mumsnetters made her feel like shit, 'Making parents lives easier' and 'for parents by parents' eh.

Posters don't want these questions asked on any existing board but then are against a separate board. So again, when mumsnet is for everyone, where can they post on here?

Well said @BringTheWine . But as you can see, most posters actually don’t give a shit about your friend. She has the audacity to have money and so deserves everything she gets. Or so it seems from the majority of comments.

MN has been a complete race to the bottom recently. It’s not always been like this. A couple of years ago I started a thread asking for advice about a job move with a big jump in income. It was HUGELY supportive and helpful. I don’t think it would be now.

I feel like we could end up with an awful lot of boards just about butters.

And I feel they should be hidden from view so as not to upset people like me who can't have dairy products in the house due to their children's allergies. Or maybe I can just jump on the Kerrygold and Lurpak threads and make "check your privilege" comments Grin

Can't mums just ask genuine questions about Lurpak and Kerrygold without the inevitable dairy produce Bolsheviks mocking us?

Sorry to hear about your friend's loss.

Did she post it on the 'private school' board?

Sad state of affairs when people are asking for this kind of division. We are all people, we learn from each other. We don't need to be kept in boxes or excluded.

Sad but not surprising. Mumsnet is more like the Daily Mail most days.

BellesAndGraces · 08/10/2024 20:50

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 08/10/2024 20:17

I’ll expand on what I said on the last thread.

I think it’s a great idea in theory, but it will get trashed, as you can see from the comments already.

It would be great to have a place for WOMEN high-earners to advise each other on the specific issues that go along with that.

Unfortunately those discussions can’t be had on MN. Financial discussion for high earners can very sensibly be had on MSE, but not women-specific.

So we miss out. This is why we can’t have nice things!

I agree. I don’t understand how most posters would argue that they support equal pay but, at the same time, refuse to allow women to discuss money matters that relate to high earners. IME, being a high earning woman is a very different experience to being in the same position as a man - pensions contributions after mat leave for example.
