Board for high earners

BellesAndGraces · 08/10/2024 19:53

I see that the other thread was started by an OP who wasn’t engaging in good faith. I certainly am so, Mumsnet, can we please have a separate board for high earners? It would be helpful for these threads to be in one place and to avoid them being high jacked by the inevitable “small violin” and “diamond shoes” comments.

OP posts:

Why not rename all of the rest of the boards with the prefix ‘Peasant’ while you’re at it. So ‘Peasant Style & Beauty’ ‘Peasant Chat’, and so on.

Genius 👏

Do posters qualify if it’s their DH earning that rather than them?

I think those ones would need a separate board

Ha ha ha ha.

I’ll expand on what I said on the last thread.

I think it’s a great idea in theory, but it will get trashed, as you can see from the comments already.

It would be great to have a place for WOMEN high-earners to advise each other on the specific issues that go along with that.

Unfortunately those discussions can’t be had on MN. Financial discussion for high earners can very sensibly be had on MSE, but not women-specific.

So we miss out. This is why we can’t have nice things!

DeireadhFomhair · 08/10/2024 20:18

Do you need to show a bank balance to gain permission to post?

Possibly just evidence that in the last six months;. Your child has asked for a pony,
Your housekeeper has asked for a raise
You've posted on 9 of the VAT on private schools threads

I’ll need a board of mine own thanks

we can’t all be expected to use the same Litter Tray

it’s one each tyvm

(and a spare for one’s little brother when he visits)

kittensinthekitchen · 08/10/2024 20:22

Oh please!

Then maybe all the begging threads will piss off there

BringTheWine · 08/10/2024 20:23

Some posters just don't like 'richer' people posting on relevant boards (eg the education board about private school) yet they are against the board that OP suggests here. Where can they post then because mumsnet is supposed to be for everyone who stays within talk guidelines?

I think mumsnet needs to deal with the posters who give the snarky replies just because someone dares to ask about private school, nursery fees when earning over £100k or a more expensive property etc. Maybe if they did that, this board wouldn't need to be requested.

Rubbish. High earners can discuss a lot of things with their peer group, friends and family..

My income, as a single career woman does not define me.

I have friends from varied backgrounds, they don’t have to pass an income level test to appreciate where I’m coming from.

Complete twaddle imo.

I want to know why the geniuses who are so 'intelligent' they have big paying jobs are also so dumb they don't realise you can't police an online forum by income.

If we had a high earners board, 99% of the posters would be there to take the piss.

Edited

Ssh don't tell em!

OP I agree with you. I actually earn £5000k though and feel quite sorry for you. I would like to visit your board and give you budgeting tips.

I would say a PhD only from Oxbridge.
I met someone once with a PhD from Birmingham! Can you imagine?!

I don't think thats a thing

Let’s add one for those of us with a PhD. That’ll be fairly exclusive 🍪.

People are people, no need to be a wanker if you’ve got something you don’t think other people have.

Ah, there are loads of people with doctorates on Mn. Clearly there needs to be a DPhil only board.😀

If it's from Oxford it's a D.Phil. anyway.

I earn enough to fit the criteria for that ops high earner board.

I still think one of the great pleasures of Mumsnet is that you don't just get a echo chamber of wealthy people (or whatever).

If you post in the right way you can get some decent advice here. But yes, other boards are available.

If you are unable to recognise your privilege and post a crashingly stupid post then it's not surprising when Mumsnetter have a field day. I am never going to post a silly post handwringing about "how will I only cope on £6k a month after school fees and riding lessons are paid" because I have also experienced a time when I could barely feed myself and my children, so I never forget my privilege

Good point. There was someone with 2 PhDs recently! Probably on a property thread..

HansHolbein · 08/10/2024 20:31

Can you add teeny tiny to the list?

NunyaBeeswax · 08/10/2024 20:31

What a stupid idea.

And how sad that anyone feels their high earnings should set them apart from other lower earners.

Certain groups I understand should have a separate board. They might have had a similar upbringing or religion or culture or sexuality etc.

But people from all and any background could be a high earner. You don't like to hear it, but luck has played more of a role in putting you where you are than anything definable and sharable with other high earners that would warrant a separate board.
