Board for high earners

I see that the other thread was started by an OP who wasn’t engaging in good faith. I certainly am so, Mumsnet, can we please have a separate board for high earners? It would be helpful for these threads to be in one place and to avoid them being high jacked by the inevitable “small violin” and “diamond shoes” comments.

Agree! You won't get much sense from this lot (I nearly added "of paupers" but then they really would get hissyGrin).

There's a sub Reddit called "HENRY" (High Earners something or other?) which can be useful, although it is rather male ...

Phil would make an excellent name for a Guinea Pig

And DPhil if you really liked your guinea pig.

CaptainBeanThief · 08/10/2024 20:53

Second Phill being a great name for a guinea pig his cage mate could be called ted 😀

LuluBlakey1 · 08/10/2024 20:53

What about a board for those who only buy organic produce from Waitrose stores within 10 miles of Kensington?

Or those who live north of Birtley?

WindsurfingDreams · 08/10/2024 20:53

MechanicalDancingDoll · 08/10/2024 20:52

And DPhil if you really liked your guinea pig.

And DPhil DPhil if I really like them and they are rather overqualified for a guinea pig.

(I was going to put very overqualified, but this is Mumsnet, so a certain level of post graduate education can be expected even in smaller pets)

Aww, give the vhnw girls their own sandbox, and don't let the (merely) hnw or other plebs play because they say horrid things

Hush your mouth. I'll have you know that I have a DPhil. Although my DH is not called Phil.

From Birmingham?
If it was Oxbridge you would be eating proper butter (in a butterdish)

Well we could combine the two - I’m rich AND stunningly beautiful!

Now, there's a Venn diagramme!!

BringTheWine · 08/10/2024 20:54

@kittensinthekitchen

Thank you. It's been a horrendous time for my friend and her family.

No, she posted in parenting and it was moved to education (I think) , it was quite a few months ago and I'm sure there wasn't a private school board at the time. I've just looked and there is now so I will tell her in case it's of use in the future. Thank you.

High earner not rich yet!

For those that don't agree with the board, do you feel a mum should be able to ask a question about private school without getting snarky replies? Or do you think that mum gets what she deserves by daring to ask a question?

A friend of mine asked a question about private school and finances very politely. At least a third of the replies were sarcastic or nasty. Why shouldn't she be able to post a question? Her thread was deleted because she asked for it to be removed. What posters didn't know was that her husband had just died by suicide and she was worrying about everything. Mumsnetters made her feel like shit, 'Making parents lives easier' and 'for parents by parents' eh.

Posters don't want these questions asked on any existing board but then are against a separate board. So again, when mumsnet is for everyone, where can they post on here?

That’s awful, I’m really sorry about your friend’s experience. I don’t quite understand why MN don’t step in and stop posters hijacking threads like that.

Sad state of affairs when people are asking for this kind of division. We are all people, we learn from each other. We don't need to be kept in boxes or excluded.

Sad but not surprising. Mumsnet is more like the Daily Mail most days.

The sad thing is that when people post about anything like this, they get a load of snarky responses. If they didn't, this board wouldn't be being requested.

WindsurfingDreams · 08/10/2024 20:11

Oooh yes please, I am glad this is restarted.
I think the best thing to do is have it a subscription only board. Set a decently high price. That should weed out the riff raff

So you cannot be a bitch and rich?!
Shame, I quite fancy that job!

ladykale · 08/10/2024 20:58

NunyaBeeswax · 08/10/2024 20:31

What a stupid idea.

And how sad that anyone feels their high earnings should set them apart from other lower earners.

Certain groups I understand should have a separate board. They might have had a similar upbringing or religion or culture or sexuality etc.

But people from all and any background could be a high earner. You don't like to hear it, but luck has played more of a role in putting you where you are than anything definable and sharable with other high earners that would warrant a separate board.

What a ridiculous response.

Impossible to ask a question about ISAs, second home, investments, private school etc without being shot down by sarcastic and unhelpful comments.

Poster will clearly call a thread "private school VAT" then a whole host of posters will CHOOSE to click and out "tiny violin" etc

Are posters only allowed who are struggling and on the breadline?

Superworm24 · 08/10/2024 20:58

Reddit is far better if you have questions about finances, investing, FIRE, for high earners etc. It is male dominated but far friendlier.

OneRarelySeesABrazierTheseDays · 08/10/2024 20:58

BeatrizBoniface · 08/10/2024 20:14

I would say a PhD only from Oxbridge.
I met someone once with a PhD from Birmingham! Can you imagine?!

They were obviously fibbing

Mysterian · 08/10/2024 20:59

The threads would include:

My neighbour parked in front of my butler's head gardener's valet's driveway!

My child just left for private school. How will he or she find their way home when the leave in 14 years time?

My husband bought me a yacht that clashes with my third favourite handbag. LTB?

BringTheWine · 08/10/2024 20:57

The sad thing is that when people post about anything like this, they get a load of snarky responses. If they didn't, this board wouldn't be being requested.

Equally people post questions about struggling financially and get told "why did you have children"/ "just move 300 miles and find another job" etc etc.

That's just inevitable with a big melting pot of different voices.

Like I say, I have posted questions related to schooling, savings and investments and not had any silly comments. I think it depends how people phrase things.

Of course if you have a total lack of awareness about your own privilege people are going to jump on that.

BringTheWine · 08/10/2024 21:01

Another example of shitty posters. I remember someone posted about where is nice to live in the Midlands. Posters were really nice and helpful until someone asked her budget. It was obviously much higher than some expected and then the tone of the thread changed dramatically. Some people are just arses.

But this is pretty much the whole point. There is nowhere with a female focus.

At the time I wanted advice on the timing of pension contributions, risk of moving job relating to glass ceiling/glass cliff issues, implications of flexible working in that type of job etc. All with a female focus.

Labour are already tweaking their budget in anticipation of the extra revenue

Mysterian · 08/10/2024 21:03

There almost certainly are sites where high earners talk to other high earners about things that effect them. I'm sure true high earners can find them.
