To be bored of the trans hate?

1000 replies

DaisyUpsy · 10/07/2023 09:54

Ok, there are extremists (like the punch people in the face person), extremists can be found in many areas of life but is anyone else fed up of the trans stuff constantly being dragged up?

I've seen some ridiculous statements on here recently. Everything gets something added related to trans when it's totally irrelevant. It's getting boring. Trans extremists are not the norm so can we stop pretending they are?

Extremists at both ends bore me at this point.

This is a relatively new social phenomenon (at least the visibility of it and the medical options available). It’s being reduced to ‘you’re the baddie’, ‘I know you are, what am I?’ when actually we need balanced voices in the debate over emotive ones.

I definitely lean more towards what GC is defined as but like buggery would I associate myself with them. Utterly blinkered and absent of any grey areas. As are the trans activists.

This is my position.

I think the frothing at either end of the debate gets so much attention that it absorbs all energy that can be driven at solutions that satisfy all concerned. Because let's be honest, vocal minorities who enjoy shouting more than solving are de rigeur in every walk of public life.

And they seem blissfully unaware of how counterproductive they are.

How would you resolve it?

Fact: The highest profile trans woman in sport is Lia Thomas, who (checks notes) swims in the USA student games. Katie Ledecky she ain't.

There are plenty of "high profile trans women" (males) in sport, not just Lia Thomas.

Your Tory bashing gish gallop and whataboutery list is unconvincing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2023 13:25

Any thoughts about Lia Thomas exposing Lia's male genitals to the young women on the swim team? @SusiePevensie

Mugcake · 10/07/2023 13:27

Totally agree. It seems like every day there's another trans bashing thread on here.

Are we going to ignore cycling then?

Wanting to preserve the rights of SA survivors to request a female HCP to perform intimate procedures, or for women fleeing male violence not to have to live with males in refuges, or for female prisoners not to share cells with rapists, is not 'hate'.

It's not us doing the hating.

Patiently waiting for someone to post all those Twitter screenshots of GC people and threatening trans people in a similar way

Erect penis.

He had a secret instagram account detailing all his A G P tendencies. Are we allowed to say A G P or is that still being deleted?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 10/07/2023 13:30

It is particularly disheartening to see it from people who claim to care about women's rights though.

//

Why though? Why hold women to a higher standard?

IAmSalmaFuckingHayek · 10/07/2023 13:31

Is it OK for people to call you cis or a cervix-haver? If not are you not dictating how others talk speak you?

I don’t think that’s comparable though. Using cis or cervix haver are part of the campaign to take away women’s language.
If in some niche circles people call me cis I don’t care. If it’s being forced upon people as progressive and inclusive, when it’s anything but, then I have a problem with it.

Same as Jo’s trust using bonus hole - if some trans men want to refer to themselves in that way, fine. A cervical cancer charity adopting that as a viable alternative is shocking! If someone is so mentally ill that they can’t hear the word vagina they need help, not validation.

AlisonDonut · 10/07/2023 13:34

It ain't trans people who have effectively decriminalised rape - it's the 'we know what a woman is' tories who have kneecapped the courts. It ain't trans people who are running the Met Police.

@SusiePevensie
I take it you've not heard of the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index or ESG scores? This is being driven from the top, not the bottom.

Please define trans bashing.

Believing a human can't change sex, is that an example?

ChasingRainbowsAllDayLong · 10/07/2023 13:35

YABU.

Yesterday I saw a video of a "trans" person telling women that we "don't own periods" and can't "gatekeep" them. I mean what the fuck.

I put the word trans in quotes as personally I don't think half of these people are actually transexual. Attention seekers absolutely. Trans? I'm not convinced.

People are angry because these activists (see also - gobby bastards) are taking things to an extreme. It's those extremists who shout the loudest and its those we are angry with, not the everyday trans folk who just want to get on with their life peacefully.

I have a trans friend of 15 years who is one of the nicest, kindest people I know. She is just as pissed off with it all as I am. It's reinstating a divide where the doesn't need to be one and making people incredibly angry, trans folk too. Society had made great strides in accepting and embracing trans people and now this lot of dickheads are setting them right back.

In the case of my friend - she has had full gender reassignment surgery, top and bottom, after living as female presenting for well over a decade. Not once in all of those years did I ever hear her come out with one iota of the bollocks I'm hearing from the self professed trans people online and on the tv today. When the drama about renaming breast feeding to chest feeding was going on she said its absolutely ridiculous.

I watched a video on Facebook recently, a debate between Piers Morgan and some moron "trans ally" and there was a transgender woman siding with peirs saying she doesn't want people like that speaking for her, what they're saying is damaging.

NewNameNigel · 10/07/2023 13:37

Can you not see that insisting on using sex based pronouns when the other person has indicated that they don't want you to makes it harder for you to ask them not call you something you don't like?

I can't see how any progress can be made towards a solution that is fair to everyone in society when both sides can't even agree to refer to each other in ways that don't make them feel uncomfortable. It just polarizes the issue further which I don't think helps anyone on either side of the debate.

NewNameNigel · 10/07/2023 13:39

Also @IAmSalmaFuckingHayek I am enjoying this discussion. I appreciate the chance to actually talk through the issue respectfully :-)

smooththecat · 10/07/2023 13:40

In a way YABU to expect any kind of nuance on this hellsite. You have to go elsewhere for proper debate and discussion, this is an outlet for emotions and it is Daily Mail tinged (see many coy DM links, ‘oh but I wouldn’t, oh but I must’). When people with actual expertise on anything brave this site, they are often given the internet equivalent of a public flogging.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2023 13:41

Do you have any red lines at all on this? What about they/them? What about neo pronouns? Again, we're back to reality v fantasy. My not wanting to participate isn't a matter of politeness, it's a matter of not wanting to be part of your religious belief.

Screamingabdabz · 10/07/2023 13:45

There is no nice fluffy kumbya compromise on this.

How do we protect women’s rights and protections, and let’s face it, we are trying to protect the children too - how do we do that without calling out the threat in this scenario (men)?

Please op - tell us. Because from where I’m sitting it’s women who’ve lost their jobs, livelihoods, reputations and physical security from death threats… the hate seems pretty one-sided. And people like you are part of the problem….you find it ‘boring’ watching women struggling to fight for protections against aggressive misogyny? You shouldn't be bored, you should be ashamed.

Housekeeperbatcocoa · 10/07/2023 13:46

I'm bored of trans stuff full stop.

I do believe some people may genuinely be trans. I also believe that too many young teens (who may have mental health issues) are jumping onto the trans train in the hopes it'll magically fix their problems when what they actually need is mental health support and a hobby.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2023 13:46

Daily Mail tinged (see many coy DM links, ‘oh but I wouldn’t, oh but I must

I've posted two daily mail links, with zero coyness. Because the information about the sexual harassment of young women by a male swimmer on the female team, and the exhortation to violence against women at London's Trans Pride weren't available in a publication which was a) more left leaning and b) not paywalled. Hope that helps.

Meeting · 10/07/2023 13:47

Yesterday I saw a video of a "trans" person telling women that we "don't own periods" and can't "gatekeep" them. I mean what the fuck.

Surely people like OP agree with stuff like this. Why should we gatekeep? I mean just because they physically can't have periods, doesn't mean they shouldn't buy (and get paid to promote) tampons. In fact many of them have obsessions with periods and talking about periods, that's normal isn't it? :)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2023 13:47

It’s not about you, I’m clearly writing about the site as a whole. And if you think the DM is the source of unbiased information you have a big problem.
