Clarification of rules

MerlinsLostMarbles · 12/05/2023 22:04

Asking in a new topic to avoid derailing any threads. Is it still against the Mumsnet forum rules to deliberately misgender/deadname a transperson?

"Not having a gender identity" is the same as being cisgender if you think about it.

Well if you aren't cisgender, then you must be trans. Right?

does being so closed minded not get a bit problematic for you?

why can't you just respect diversity @MerlinsLostMarbles ?

No it's not.

oh look, you're still failing to respect diversity

everyone must fit in my two boxes! even if you say you don't fit in my boxes I'll squeeze you up and ignore important parts of your identity so I can pretend that you do!

'Cis (short for cisgender) "refers to someone's gender identity that corresponds to their sex as assigned at birth". It isn't about "identity" it's a word with a set definition.''
You've contradicted yourself there.

Just a smidge

"Not having a gender identity" is the same as being cisgender if you think about it.

Possibly the most unintentionally amusing comment ever.

If you think about it..... go on, do try.

Calling me a heathen because I'm not a true believer is a nonsense. As is insisting that people who don't follow your gender ideology are therefore to be called "cis" whether they agree or not.

Reasonableadjustments · 13/05/2023 13:05

I don't buy into gender ideology. Calling me cisgender is forcing me into an ideology I don't believe in.

That's not ok.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 13/05/2023 13:06

I'm presuming you think trans people's identities should be respected @MerlinsLostMarbles and people shouldn't use words about them that they don't like?

that's the point of this thread, no?

if you think about it.......go on....

RufustheSpecuIatingreindeer · 13/05/2023 13:07

MerlinsLostMarbles · 13/05/2023 13:03

"Not having a gender identity" is the same as being cisgender if you think about it.

No…but actually if you believe in gender then apparently you would be ‘agender’

so you are saying that anyone who is ‘agender’ is actually’cis’

thats really not going to go down very well in that community

ResisterRex · 13/05/2023 13:10

Bundle it up how you like, I ain't buying it

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/05/2023 13:10

Ooooh someone's teasing us I think. Or, trying to.

Naw.

I’m a gender identity atheist - don’t have a gendered soul, don’t believe anyone else has a gendered soul.

Calling me ‘cis’ is like calling me a ‘heretic’ - it’s only relevant to those who believe in the thing I don’t believe in.

HTH!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/05/2023 13:11

I have a biological sex and have been actively campaigning against gender stereotypes for the last 40 years if that helps.

nilsmousehammer · 13/05/2023 13:13

If someone's not a member of the One True Faith they must be an infidel.

Yeah whatever.

OP I hope you've reported yourself for misgendering the non binary rower and calling them a TW? You may have understandably been busy trying to get the damned to repent, but you've done a bit of sinning yourself there.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/05/2023 13:13

Or, to put it another way I am biologically female and have been a bloody angry (socialist) feminist for over 40 years waaaay before gender ideology and gender-critical feminism were born.

MerlinsLostMarbles · 13/05/2023 13:13

Reminder- Thread is about whether intentional misgendering and deadnaming transpeople are against the forum rules.

IcakethereforeIam · 13/05/2023 13:14

What about all the other 70-odd gender identities, have they/them just been literal violenced?

DiscoBoots · 13/05/2023 13:14

Merlin must be on the wind up. They can't be this dim as to not understand the difference...can they?
My 9 year can understand this. 5 year old I'm not sure.

Reminder

you should be asking on site stuff as others have suggested

RufustheSpecuIatingreindeer · 13/05/2023 13:14

Reminder

you started with the ‘cis’ business

It is, in exactly the same way that calling someone cisgender or cis when they have asked you not to is also against forum rules.

nilsmousehammer · 13/05/2023 13:15

But inflicting language on those who have consciously rejected it, for example continuing to cis women who have explained to you that they do not wish to be labelled as such, seems to be something you're ok with OP?

It couldn't be one rule for some and another rule for others could it?

I don't know about you but menopause has fucked my memory and I just can't keep track of them all.

I hear 'lady' is also verboten.

Actually fair point

but you should have taken the high road marbles
