Clarification of rules

MerlinsLostMarbles · 12/05/2023 22:04

Asking in a new topic to avoid derailing any threads. Is it still against the Mumsnet forum rules to deliberately misgender/deadname a transperson?

OP posts:
RoseslnTheHospital · 12/05/2023 22:11

Ask in the Site Stuff topic, or at least tag a MNHQ moderator in your post if you want a response here. Or, report your own post maybe? Of course, given that it's late in the UK there probably aren't any mods around and you might be left with only the Night Watch who won't be able to answer your question...

Yes, as far as I know it still is.
Have noticed lately that it doesn't seem to be upheld anymore though, so not sure what the point of it being a rule is if it's going to be ignored?

AutumnCrow · 12/05/2023 22:14

If you want to talk directly with MNHQ, you are best starting a new thread in Site Stuff, or asking for this thread to be moved there by reporting your OP to MNHQ and requesting that.

Yes, best off asking in Site Stuff I think

Genesis1v27 · 12/05/2023 22:14

Depends. What do you mean by "a transperson"? What do you mean by "deliberately misgender" or "deliberately deadname"? Why do you ask this of other users rather than site moderators?

MavisMcMinty · 12/05/2023 22:14

I like the MN tradition of using the person’s name over and over again instead of incongruous pronouns that stick in the craw.

AutumnCrow · 12/05/2023 22:15

You can also email MNHQ directly, @MerlinsLostMarbles

🙄
OP has asked, people have said Site Stuff is best place to ask.
Why the snark?

Genesis1v27 · 12/05/2023 22:32

What "snark"?

PriOn1 · 13/05/2023 06:43

Trying to worK out which women’s posts should be reported and which you can leave, to save yourself a bit of work Merlin?

I think that there has been a bending of the correctly sexing rule, so that we can correctly mention that Isla Bryson is a man, because he’s a rapist, and we can probably talk about Eddie Izzard using the correct pronouns, because he has specified it’s okay. But posts mentioning the correct sex of, for example, J. Fae, or any use of correct sex pronouns for M. R. White will be removed.

PriOn1 · 13/05/2023 06:45

*R. M. White.

Clymene · 13/05/2023 07:00

I think we have always been able to correctly sex rapists and sex abusers. Surely @MerlinsLostMarbles you're not worrying about 'deadnaming' sexual predators?

I think (and could someone please correct me if I’m wrong) there is something in the guidelines about applying the term “cis” to mumsnetters who do not identify themselves that way.

So, for instance, if you label a Mumsnetter as a “cis man” you may find yourself deleted, should anyone report the post.

No GRC as per evidence to the WESC.

MisgenderedPaul · 13/05/2023 08:11

Ah, it depends on whether you have a bundle, or not.

Cis (short for cisgender) "refers to someone's gender identity that corresponds to their sex as assigned at birth". It isn't about "identity" it's a word with a set definition. Look it up.

OP posts:
Clymene · 13/05/2023 12:50

No, it is a definition made up by subscribers to gender ideology.

ooh excellent, we're doing definitions now?

please define

  • gender
  • misgender
  • Trans
  • you could do a non circular definition of woman while you're on a roll
ta everso
RoseslnTheHospital · 13/05/2023 12:54

"A word with a set definition"... what, like "woman" for example? We all know that these days words mean whatever I say they mean.

The use of "cis" in relation to gender ideology is a recent neologism as you well know. It's meaning is variously defined, and even by your definition doesn't apply to anyone who doesn't ascribe to gender ideology. You can't insist that everyone has this thing called a "gender identity".

You've contradicted yourself there.

MerlinsLostMarbles · 13/05/2023 12:56

Well if you aren't cisgender, then you must be trans. Right?

OP posts:
RoseslnTheHospital · 13/05/2023 12:57

If you aren't a heathen then you must be a true believer....

Or, just nothing to do with your personal belief system at all, thanks.

DiscoBoots · 13/05/2023 12:59

Merlin your definition says gender identity corresponds to sex at birth.

Surely you've spent enough time on these boards to glean that most of the women here don't have a gender identity? I certainly don't.

It's the same as forcibly describing you as someone who's religion corresponds eith the main religion of the country or is different from the main religion. What about all those people who don't have a religion? They are neither cis nor trans

If respecting people's chosen identities is so important to you why don't you respect people choosing to NOT have a gender identity?

Yet another question which never gets answered.

You don't want me to impose eg 'man' on eg Isla Bryson but you're perfectly happy to impose 'cis' or as the Starbuvks employee did, Karen on me, why the inequality?

Reasonableadjustments · 13/05/2023 13:01

MerlinsLostMarbles · 13/05/2023 12:56

No.

There's already a word that describes what I am. It's woman. It doesn't need anything else. Nor do I. I am as adult human female.
