Please can you make "For sale" as it was BUT not in active convo's???

Please?

No, JV.

But that's because they're staying on topic, I would imagine, largely. Plus there aren't MNers who are going "Ooh, I'd like to post in conception/shorthaul" are there?

hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 11:00

Hny, you've been emailing, CATing, etc?

And they've not replied?

Why would they then respond to a FAO thread?

JeremyVile · 12/02/2008 11:01

So, is it a problem if people on for sale go 'off topic' then?

What, like having chat outside of Chat? is that what you mean?

Aitch · 12/02/2008 11:02

CAT them. that's really what you should be doing in the first place, tbh. as has been endlessly discussed. or buy things on ebay, where they offer a 'contact seller' facility.

It's a problem when they don't list their items with what they're selling in the thread title, because it makes it very hard to scan the topic to see what's for sale.

It makes a joke of the topic if people put stuff on there FFP - there's a FFP section for that.

Why is this hard to grasp?

A For Sale topic should be stuff for sale.

Am I speaking Martian?!

Can we leave this alone now ladies? Once MNHQ finish their first load of changes, I'm sure we will all see a big difference to the FS boards. I believe the changes being made are:-

  1. Threads can't be bumped done
  2. Categories
  3. All users of For Sale must have paid CAT
DualCycloneCod · 12/02/2008 11:07

has there been an exocus? has there?

JeremyVile · 12/02/2008 11:11

I dont think you're speaking martian, no.

But I don't get it. At all. None of the explainations actually match the vigour of the arguments and the vitriol. And this 'not contributing by not posting outside For Sale' is crap.

But, whatever, I think i'd rather not get it.

hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 11:12

Why is it crap, JV?

I think if you're going to use a site that lets you list things for free, the very least you can do is contribute to the wider community on that site, no?

I am a better MNer than most of you though.

Hnybnch · 12/02/2008 11:14

No Hunker you are not speaking martian!

I agree with the fact that people should post in appropriate topics, I have never said otherwise!

I can pick and chose where I want to go/look at on mumsnet, surely thats why there is so many different areas? So I can visit/view areas of interest to me?

I can't CAT people as I don't have a credit/debit card? I have said I'm willing to pay CAT I also have no issue with that, but need to pay by paypal! Or do you know if I can pay by dp's card? I have asked MN but still waiting for a reply.

FAO's IMO should be a last resort, I personally try any other way of contact possible! But when you get ignored for days then a public FAO usually gets the said persons attention!

OP posts:
Flier · 12/02/2008 11:16

mumsnet said they would look into being able to pay CAT by paypal, but I also think they said that tech and others are on hols this week, so we will have to be patient.

hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 11:16

"I agree with the fact that people should post in appropriate topics, I have never said otherwise!"

But why have a go at ME for saying it to the poster today, and not HER for calling me nasty and ignorant and all sorts of other stuff?!

hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 11:17

Don't know about the rest, I guess.

Although if you only dealt with people who used the rest of the site, you could post FAOs in chat

policywonk · 12/02/2008 11:17
JeremyVile · 12/02/2008 11:17

No. I don't agree, it would probably be best practice but it is not stipulated as a condition of the for sale boards.

MNHQ have not seen fit to place restrictions on who can use the boards - which they could, easily, if they felt it necessary - so it seems strange to me that you feel it correct to keep on about it, who are you doing it for? Not MNHQ, so who?

Me, JV. I do everything I do for me.

Everything.

JeremyVile · 12/02/2008 11:20

You asked me the question Hunker - I answered.
So, who is it for.... or to what end? to force a change that not even MNHQ feel necessary?

SugarSkyHigh · 12/02/2008 11:20

there's an awful lot of energy going into this from all sides, energy which would be better used campaigning for world peace (or something)

hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 11:21

I just answered.

I want to use For Sale. I don't want to use it as it stands now, because it offends my eyes.

Threadworm · 12/02/2008 11:22

Presumably MN has the For Sale pages for much the same reason as it has the other pages: i.e. MN makes money out of the advertising space they can sell there. I can't really see that the people who use it have any obligation to 'contribute to the MN community'.

This whole site is a business. So long as the tacky For Sale boards aren't visible in Active Convos, what does the nature of those boards really matter to those who don't use them?
