mmm-kay. good to know that when someone posts something helpful on your thread you have no problem being nasty to them, though. such good MN etiquette, such lovely manners.

Desiderata · 11/02/2008 01:47

You don't have a good point at all, Hnybnch. What you're proposing is to distance yourself from the rest of Mumsnet so that you can sell on the boards.

That is not in the spirit of the arrangement at all. This is a community of parents, who share advice and help each other out. If all you wish to do is sell goods, then go to eBay and pay the appropriate fees.

You're free-loading. Surely you can see this?

fletchaaarr · 11/02/2008 01:56

drumming up support?

Ahh

Is it different because bumping no longer works??

Now that would make complete sense to me

very happy if that is the case

fletchaaarr · 11/02/2008 01:58

I am not a regular "for saler" either. I have bought, but to be honest the kind of attitude implicit in "you are not a regular for saler" makes me think twice about doing so again.

Which cuts down on your market place really

fletchaaarr · 11/02/2008 02:35

Oh oh oh

They are no longer bumpable

They have a started at time and a last posted time

They are posted in order of the started at time

I am sorry Hnybnch, but it is one of the other things that really hacked me off, the constant "." "bump" "please" "no-one?" "" etc etc etc

I don't see the problem with that? The thing with bumping was that everybody was trying to outbump each other, which was just a mess, this way everybody gets a chance

Now...

Categories? tech?

squimlet · 11/02/2008 07:29

please put it back to how it was

Flier · 11/02/2008 07:43

Actually, I think in a small way its looking more like it used to - if you are looking for something you just have to look down the page, rather than looking at the most recent one, IYSWIM.

Looking forward to seeing the categories, that will probably make it a bit better organised, and Ithink you'll be happier then hnybnch.

I think it is much better as opposed to people bumping loads of times a day and the board dominated by a handful of people.
I used to post something and by the end of the end was right at the bottom

LadyMuck · 11/02/2008 07:50

I suspect that the regular "for salers" would be happier with the new layout if someone had taken the time to explain (possibly with a sticky) about functions such as "Threads I'm on", "threads I've Started", "last 15 mins" and watching/hiding threads. Some of them want to have conversations amongst themselves (not so dissimilarly to scuttle buggers or ante/post matal boards), and the new format doesn't particularly encourage that.

"You're not a regular For Saler?"

I thought the whole point was that "For Salers" said they were MNers?

Would you like to blow a ruddy great hole in your other foot, Hnybnch?

I think there's a cat's chance in hell of For Sale being put back the way it was - clearly that didn't work.

I also think that the "For Salers" are running the risk of pissing MNHQ off so much that they decide to do away with For Sale altogether.

twoplusonemakesthree · 11/02/2008 08:34

I like it how it is now. I think the bumping was confusing as to which I had read which I hadnt. If I just read from the top I know I havent read it before and it gives every seller a fighting chance.

I dont like the continuous bumping just to get a certain post to the top, thus pushing the non-bumpers post to the bottom of the page too quick.

I also think all items for sale should be on one post if possible so as, again, not to fill up the board.

helenhismadwife · 11/02/2008 08:42

I think its better now, loads and loads of threads get missed and quickly go off the page when people keep bumping them, that got on my nerves now its far easier to see new listings. Although it does seem that some people are just putting the same stuff on a few times a day

God, i say get rid of the whole damn thing.

Go to bloody ebay!

and before anyone gets all narky with me I have used the forsale boards in the past but got fed up with the constant bumping.

Flier · 11/02/2008 08:52

I do think it will be better once the different categories are set, though. Perhaps we can do more to self-police then?

hunkermunker · 11/02/2008 08:54

Oh, God, posting the same thing several times a day - have they nothing better to do?!

Aitch · 11/02/2008 08:55

oh it's stopped bumps, that's the difference? i thought it was a layout thing. well, what was so bloody hard about answering my question then? i think it's a good move, much fairer.
poor show about people just listing again but presumably is would be worth reporting those posts and MNHQ will consider deleting, so presumably people will realise the futility of doing it.

scottishmummy · 11/02/2008 08:57

i vote for keeping the for sale as it is useful and in most cases effective

have absolutley no problem with people bumping their for sale item, genuinely don't see it as source of annoyance. Obviously people want to sell, and thus will bump their item up. Fair enough

but lets face it that wont make it sell any quicker. Essentially items sell if
1 Priced appropriately
2 wanted by a purchaser
3 desired item

scams/unsavouray dealings etc
Hmm this has been problematic, and a tricky one....

2 strikes and your out of the board eg 2 proven incidents of scamming etc - banned

maybe mandadatory feedback form for feedback

or sellers to be registered with feedback score - like ebay i guess

hunkermunker · 11/02/2008 09:00

Aitch, I think if she'd answered your question, she'd have had to say "It stops me bumping my threads, which I realise was one of the main things that most MNers loathed about For Sale" so she went on the offensive.

scottishmummy · 11/02/2008 09:03

lol some folk have more bumps than beyonce.i dont think it's the bumping that is the reaL issue

No one has an empty purse or good as new gammy rickety pushchair because folk do the bump
