apology accepted, hnybnch.

mumofdjandp · 11/02/2008 19:15

I def posted on it Flier as did a few others?

Flier · 11/02/2008 19:17

I know you did, mumofdjandp, but its always the same few who do post elsewhere anyway, and the thread didn't last long (one day I think)

If I was in charge at MN Towers, I'd be planning the curly sandwiches and sad plates of Wotsits for the For Sale topic wake.

fletchaaarr · 11/02/2008 19:52

Can I suggest some compromises?

I HATE the bumping constantly, it makes it impossible to find stuff that has been listed recently and is probably still available. It was like walking through a market place where you can only buy from the loudest sellers.

As I have said before it reminds me of the seagulls on "Finding Nemo", but instead of "Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine!" I hear "Buy, buy, buy, buy, buy!". I have even been onto threads and said "please can you list what is still avilable from your list of 546 nappies", only to be ignored.

Have a for sale chat if that is what you really want. Have it in the for sale section when they bring in categories. Have it as a category. I really dislike this idea, but if MN needs the page hits for their revenue (something that I doubt many of the "cheaper than ebay" people care about) and that is the the only way to get it then have for sale chat.

But keep the for sale threads as they are now, listed by time posted, and easily brousable by the "not a regular for saler are you?". It is for sale and you should be listing what you have for sale, not chatting about how mummy987765433 is a scammer and never delivered your farkaboo lillywank in snot green.

It would be much nicer if you came and joined the rest of MN (those of you that don't already). It would be so much nicer if you went and helped the people who are posting about needing help (as I am about to do). They realy don't bite, really

Pleeeeeeeeease get rid of the 'for sale' section MNHQ. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

fletchaaarr · 11/02/2008 20:27

PS - can't understand why people say they can't "understand" or "follow" it the new way.

Isn't it just a list of stuff for sale - what's to understand or follow. It is still a list of stuff for sale??

hunkermunker · 11/02/2008 21:02

No, it's flamingos and aardvarks and they're squabbling

fletchaaarr · 11/02/2008 22:07

Can we have it mandatory to say what you are selling in the title?

please??

fletchaaarr · 11/02/2008 22:10

and www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1910/476473

moljam · 11/02/2008 22:12

i agree!i want to know whats for sale not guess-it doesnt make me want to look-it makes me think it cant be that interesting it you cant be arsed to tell me.

hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 10:12

I've worked out why so many of them don't post on the rest of the site, btw.

It's called Bounty.

Hnybnch · 12/02/2008 10:31

Hunker why are you having a "pop" at people? You are a perfect example of what I was talking about previously!

There is absolutely no need to get nasty and start the name calling and snide comments again!

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 10:38

Where do I name-call? I've been called names this morning. And I maintain she "started it" by posting incorrectly.

MN Towers, please take For Sale, seal it in concrete and drop it in the North Sea.

It's largely being used as a free version of ebay by people who don't want to use the rest of MN because their chattering needs are met elsewhere - they don't want to join in with the rest of the community, they want to keep For Sale for themselves and it's so anti the MN philosophy it's untrue.

LL, I suspect that what Hnybnch wanted to do was keep the not-regular For Salers off For Sale with her policing.

Or she'd have been on that thread saying, "Actually, you're meant to put what you're selling in the thread title and there is a FFP section".

Hny?

Hnybnch · 12/02/2008 10:46

Don't talk daft, theres the "they" again? Who's "they"?

Am I one of "them"?

It's a joke, I started this thread as a simple request to mn towers, not to have a silly argument with people!

Mumsnet is for everyone, All of it! If people only chose to use 1 part of it where's the problem?

I may not post too much elsewhere, but I do trawl through a lot and read things! Does this mean I am not a full member because I don't actually "post" and just read?

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 10:53

You started the them and us thing on this thread, Hny.

And, actually, what else is it?

There are people who don't post on For Sale and would like to and contribute to the rest of the site - that's the us, as far as I'm concerned.

There are the people who post on For Sale predominantly or solely and don't contribute to the rest of the site - that's the them, as far as I'm concerned. Especially those who are aware that MN is slated elsewhere and still continue to use it as a free eBay.

DualCycloneCod · 12/02/2008 10:55

wehy not just ban the topic>

JeremyVile · 12/02/2008 10:58

Hunker -that's nonsense.
Is someone who posts solely on conception/shorthaul/chat creating a 'them' and ''us'?

hunkermunker · 12/02/2008 10:58

I'm beginning to be of that opinion, Cod.

It would've been nice to have reached a compromise - something that would have had everyone posting the right things in the right places, whether they just use MN to sell their unwanted items or post on the wider community.

But apparently it doesn't matter if you don't do that, you can post FAOs for anyone in For Sale, you can post "ooh look lots of lovely things" in thread titles and that's fine - in fact, you can do whatever the hell you like and when someone mentions it, they're called nasty, ignorant and told to get a life. And then someone else says that that's fine and you shouldn't be interfering anyway.

As I said, seal the whole lot in concrete and drop it in the sea.

Hnybnch · 12/02/2008 10:58

When I was offering to "help" police For sale I was offering to keep an eye out for particular trails etc as name change is so easy, not go on every thread put in the wrong place!

This Will I'm sure sort itself out when MNHQ make the rules of posting clear, not when another member jumps on their thread to say "you've done this wrong, it's in the wrong place, don't know what you're selling"!

I guess the best thing we can do is hope MNHQ take all points into consideration and try to work round everyones needs. Once the changes/rules have been made clear people may start to list correctly.

Can I ask a Q though ladies? If I want to contact someone who I'm dealing with on For Sale and they have ignored all efforts of me trying to contact them, where would it be acceptable for my FAO thread?
