Just to say that we'll take all your comments into consideration. Nothing is set in stone as yet - but most of the team are off on half term hol's , so don't expect much to happen this week!

debbie102 · 11/02/2008 12:47

thats a relief then no changhes this week , i do hope that the people who use the for sale boards opinions will be taken into account though cause the majority of them are really unhappy with the situation at the min.

Debbie - I am sorry if you miss the banter, but there is the whole of the talk boards for banter, and I do think that it is much easier to scan and see if there is anything I am interested in on forsale now.

Also if anything new has been posted it is nearer the top so I know I haven't read that one yet

hunkermunker · 11/02/2008 13:37

"Just change the boards back to the original way and then leave out of active convos that would make everyone happy."

No. It wouldn't.

Flibbertyjibbet · 11/02/2008 13:58

I think the new layout is much better and much easier on the eye.
Just scan down, see if there's anything I want to buy, pop over and check the wanteds, same thing there.
I've only nipped on for a quick time during my lunchbreak and already noticed someone who had one great big picture trail/selling thread yesterday has now split it into tons of for sale threads which will no doubt be re-posted again and again.
I might even work up to putting some stuff for sale again myself. Been scared to do so recently as I am not a bumper or a hun. Just a regular poster who occasionally has items that some other mner might want for their children.
I can't be a hun I only ever bought one pram and one (2nd hand from a mumsnet hun ) buggy and used them for 3 years on two children!!
I suspect though that its only a matter of time before the sale boards go the same way as the nappy lady classifieds - pulled off completely due to abuse and scamming.

LadyMuck · 11/02/2008 14:04

I agree that the new layout is so much easier. You can see all the newly listed items the last 48 hours on the first page. Tbh I don't even mind people separating out their tiems as it suddenly doesn't seem as if there are so many threads in For sale anyway.

Hnybnch · 11/02/2008 14:11

Afternoon all!

Well this thread was predictable wasn't it!

I would first like to Apologise to Aitch after sleeping on it and some well needed fresh air this morning with my boys, It seems I did pretty much jump on you, although I had no intention of sounding aggressive! So Im Sorry.

I made this thread to simply make a request to Mnhq, was hoping it would not turn into a huge row, but I should have known better eh!

People chose not to put their points across in the other thread as it was a nasty thread with far too much bitching and unnecessary name calling!

I am a regular mumsnet user, I've been a member for almost a year, I don't venture out much to rest of boards as I'm not really good with meeting new people etc. However I have since recent happenings ventured a small amount and been on a couple of other topics, even chat threads. But I don't think I'm any less of a mumsnetter?

Sorry for essay

I find it annoying more than anything simply for the fact that not every MN'er visits the for sale page everyday and therefore posts being pushed down means people may not find the item listed that they want because it has gone from the first page.

I still think there should be sections, nappies, parms, clothes, toys etc. And all items of the sme should be listed together.

scottishmummy · 11/02/2008 15:11

can't a desired item be ticked as "watched Item" to keep track of it?

TheLadyEvenStar · 11/02/2008 15:15

Scottish, that would work IF every user visited the for sale board daily but if for instance today i listed a pram for sale and in 2 days someone came onto the for sale boards looking for a pram the chances of mine being on the first page are nil so therefore i am without a sale and the buyer without the pram.

If items were together in sections then it would work better.

onelittlelion · 11/02/2008 15:16

I like the no bumping and the last thread I posted took a few days to drop off the first page which is much better. Once there are categories then things will stay on for even longer. You can always click 'threads I'm on' too if forget to 'watch' a thread.

Disenchanted · 11/02/2008 15:37

Yea, let it be the way it was,

its BORING now.

scottishmummy · 11/02/2008 15:38

is the "bumping" issue that some threads get overlooked and lost in favour of the most recent bump?what about time limited posts on for sale then eg 7 days

LadyMuck · 11/02/2008 16:35

But this change doesn't affect that LadyEvenStar. There could only ever be a certain number of threads on the first page. If a buyer wants a specific item, then ime they will go through a number of pages (or use the search facility) until they find it. Following your logic the only way to sell would be bump like mad to stay on the first page, which was clearly annoying people. Personally I found it far more irritating to be on the look out for something but to have to wade through loads of threads that I'd already seen in order to see if theere were any new ones.

I think that MNHQ are working on categories too.

I can see that the new format will be irritating to anyone who ever used to chat on the ForSale topic, but there are plenty of places to do that including a specific topic called "_Chat".

Lady and i do post in other places.

arransmummy · 11/02/2008 17:34

Can I just make one little point - why should people venture out to other parts of mumsnet, we CHOSE to post of for sale, maybe we don't want to post anywhere else. I don't see anyone from the for sale boards constantly going over to the other boards and saying oh why don't you come and post on the for sale board. People should not be pressured into posting in other topics. It seems to be like tit for tat on here. We post to say can anything be done to make it a bit more pleasant for people on for sale and we get jumped on from people on other topics. If you don't post in for sale then why the hell are you in here commenting on what should happen in for sale.

Rant over!

BabiesEverywhere · 11/02/2008 17:37

Two matching adverts a day apart...this is just bumping by stealth

I should add I am looking to buy nappies for Baby Bea, I am not looking for trouble. It is just irrating looking though repeated adverts for stuff I have already decided I didn't want to buy

SoupDragon · 11/02/2008 17:40

I would like For Sale back like it was.

Back like it was before when it was not a "Talk" topic at all but hidden away in some dusty corner.

For Sale is "things for sale".

This is why there are topics - so that people know what they're likely to find under the headings.

Otherwise it's just anarchy, innit?

arransmummy · 11/02/2008 18:05

littlelapin i know it's a discussion forum but it's like me going onto the chat board and saying what should happen in there. I'd get shot down in flames!!! It shouldn't be a case of the 'huns' and the 'regulars'. Some of the 'huns' are 'regulars' but regulars in the for sale topics.

I agree that professional sellers should not be allowed to take advantage of this free service but the majority of us are mums looking to sell things that we don't need and also buy things that we do need. If this includes some light hearted banter then so be it. Life is too short to be worrying about crap like this, constantly thinking 'oh god, i can't bump my items cause someone from chat is going to come and jump on my thread and tear me to shreads' and constantly watching your spelling cause someone may critisise you for any mistake that you may make. FFS lighten up everyone, we all come on here to get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life, not to gain more by having to scrutinise everything you do on here.
