When on MN, I keep getting diverted to a website telling me that my McAfee sub has expired, & click on the link to renew.

I do use McAfee, but it has not expired.

I ONLY get this on MN , despite having c.20 other windows open.
Anyone else get this scam via MN ?

Hi OP

Can you let us know what device and browser you're using, and provide a screenshot? We're keen to investigate.

grannysbay · 11/01/2023 23:15

Happening to me too. Edge on Windows 10. All updated

LilyMumsnet · 12/01/2023 10:19

Hi

Can someone provide us a screenshot of where the site is taking you, and let us know where on Mumsnet you are when this happens?

WolfFoxHare · 12/01/2023 10:25

Just happened to me now, on safari on my laptop. I didn’t take a screenshot because I just shut the window down, but will if it happens again.

Georgyporky · 12/01/2023 11:10

@LilyMumsnet Hi Lily. I'm using Microsoft Edge, on my desktop PC.
I'll do a screenshot when it happens again

Thanks all, please can you let us know where you are on the site when this happens?

slashlover · 12/01/2023 16:16

My screencap was from this post. I started typing to say that it happened to me too and the page went to there. I could hit the back button and come back to the page.

LilyMumsnet · 12/01/2023 16:58

We're looking into this now and will have it sorted as soon as possible. Flowers

LilyRose88 · 12/01/2023 17:27

I keep getting that McAfee pop up as well. I'm on Microsoft Edge on an HP laptop. It tells me that my subscription expired on 8 January. I do not have a McAfee subscription.

Georgyporky · 12/01/2023 18:13

It also happened earlier when I was composing a message to Lily with full details of the latest event.

And then, I was literally typing this message when it happened again!

I'm getting this too. Edge on laptop.

pictoosh · 12/01/2023 18:26

It usually pops up when I'm in a thread...possibly even when I'm in the middle of typing out a reply.

SoImpatient80 · 12/01/2023 18:34

Windows 10, Edge, not even got Mcafee installed. Surfing Mumsnet and then page changes to screenshot.

Same as @SoImpatient80

helpfulperson · 12/01/2023 18:46

Me as well. I didn't realise it was connected to Mumsnet and spent ages trying to sort it. Windows 11, just happens mid thread,

SoImpatient80 · 12/01/2023 18:49

It happens on different threads in different topics. Even happened half way through typing my post above

weathervane1 · 12/01/2023 18:50

@LilyMumsnet it might be worth posting a banner / easily noticeable message on the site so that people who haven't seen this thread won't be tempted to fall for the scam, especially since Mumsnet is the apparent 'host' for the scam message.

JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain · 12/01/2023 21:02

I get it too, if first happened last night and again this afternoon. It's obviously a scam and it had different web addresses in the address bar. All my anti-virus software is up to date and I ran a full system scan using Malwarebytes and Avast but neither found anything. I'm using Chrome on Windows 10.

notthe1Parrot · 12/01/2023 21:37

Just happened again - Windows 10, Edge

JenniferBarkley · 12/01/2023 21:59

Me too, happening on every thread I go on. Windows laptop using Brave. Back button brings me back to the thread.

Very frustrating.

weathervane1 · 12/01/2023 22:18

I have clicked in the previous link (I'm in IT and am fully protected) and it takes you to a web site that Norton anti-virus states is dangerous.
