Dear MNHQ, For the benefit of the MAJORITY of users, can we have a sticky please?

At the top of the For Sale Board, setting out the etiquette of 1) Putting a relatively descriptive thread title of the item being sold (will make it far easier to search for what MNers need, and 2) Not to bump their thread so much that it blasts all other For Sale threads into oblivion.

It seems that there are some halfwits picturetrailers on the For Sale boards who are trampling all over decent MNers struggling to self-regulate and respect others' wishes in order to make it accessible to everyone.

see here.... Although I suspect you've been closely moderately said thread....

Thank you

well said

I've just read that thread

I'm beginning to think the For Sale board needs a moderator of some kind actually. It's changed in the year or so and has put me right off looking there.

Aitch · 22/01/2008 16:54

Amen, sister.

VVVQV · 22/01/2008 16:57

Oops - I meant moderating not moderately

To be perfectly honest. I'd be happy to see them gone altogether

lulumama · 22/01/2008 17:01

that thread is a disgrace

i am just appalled

calling aitch a bully, high and mighty, implying she was at fault and being rude for asking new sellers to follow the rules

it is a shame that the word bullying is bandied around so thoughtlessly, unfair to people who are geninely bullied in RL

and the amount of antagonism towards respected posters just shows that a lot of sellers do not 'get' mumsnet, having never gone further than the for sale boards

think a moderator would be an excellent idea

OliviaMumsnet · 22/01/2008 17:02

Hi there
As you may know, we are hoping to have a revamp of the For Sale boards as we know there are problems.
We'll take a look at this.
Thanks
MN Towers

Mercy · 22/01/2008 17:02

I think the board should stay but it needs guidelines set by MNHQ and enforced either by them or a moderator.

I'm still stunned by the way Aitch was spoken to.

S1ur · 22/01/2008 17:03

Aw ffs Aitch, you are sooo not popular over there are you dearie?

FWIW it is bizarre because you were uber-polite and made a simple request. It is all a bit odd and defensive.

Particularly liked you being picked up for using 'long' words. tut tut you linguistic bully you

lulumama · 22/01/2008 17:03

the irony of the for sale posters all turning on aitch and calling her a bully

MascaraOHara · 22/01/2008 17:04

aitch is obviously a cunning linguistic (boom boom)

VanillaPumpkin · 22/01/2008 17:05

That thread is shocking .

LIZS · 22/01/2008 17:06

and the huns suspect there are pram traders in their midst (noooo, really ?! ) but won't report them

lulumama · 22/01/2008 17:09
Fimbo · 22/01/2008 17:10

OMG at that thread. .

Aitch · 22/01/2008 17:10

ach tbh it doesn't matter a fuck if i'm well-known or not on here, that's very far from the point.
i think i just unwittingly gave them an opportunity to get nasty because, well, they are pissed off at the rest of MN having an opinion.
i deffo think that my saying 'can you read?' was rude, i hold my hands up to that, but it was in response to her rudeness and couldn't quite believe that seconds later it was all bullies and BNWT handbags at dawn. quite a bizarre day on MN.

WigWamBam · 22/01/2008 17:11

That thread is disgraceful, but sadly seems representative of a lot of the For Sale threads these days.

The regular sellers have formed their own little microcosm, and resent anyone else going anywhere near the threads. It's quite parasitic really; they live off the back of MN whilst so obviously hating the rest of the site.

Time to get rid, I'd say.

SenoraParsnip · 22/01/2008 17:11

why not just display all for sale ads by first post date, not last post date? duplicate threads would still be a problem though I guess.

Fimbo · 22/01/2008 17:11

So, how many of us have they been "warned" about? How ridiculous.

AllieBongo · 22/01/2008 17:13

I stuck my oar in. It was a blood bath with poor Aitch in the middle.

Fimbo · 22/01/2008 17:14

I think it should go, or unless you have been here for over say 2 years, you have to pay £50 to register to sell. And no picture trails.

Mercy · 22/01/2008 17:14

A lot of the posters on that thread seemed to think they are separate and somehow immune from the rest of MN though.

LadyOfTheCauliFlowers · 22/01/2008 17:16

I was going to post on it but I really can't be arsed to get all wound up about it now. Will just have my usual rant....

THIS IS A F'ING PARENTING FORUM WHERE YOU CAN SELL ON YOUR NO LONGER NEEDED BABY STUFF, NOT A FRICKIN' SELLING FORUM - THAT IS EBAAAAAAAAYYYY!

Aitch · 22/01/2008 17:16
LadyOfTheCauliFlowers · 22/01/2008 17:17

They always jump straight to the defensive and I believe that is because they know they are abusing the facility.
