Dear MNHQ, For the benefit of the MAJORITY of users, can we have a sticky please?

At the top of the For Sale Board, setting out the etiquette of 1) Putting a relatively descriptive thread title of the item being sold (will make it far easier to search for what MNers need, and 2) Not to bump their thread so much that it blasts all other For Sale threads into oblivion.

It seems that there are some halfwits picturetrailers on the For Sale boards who are trampling all over decent MNers struggling to self-regulate and respect others' wishes in order to make it accessible to everyone.

see here.... Although I suspect you've been closely moderately said thread....

Thank you

i'm sure that could be changed, though, madamez, to say ten pics per listing. although might that eat MN's bandwidth and increase their operating costs?

madamez · 22/01/2008 22:52

Aitch, well I am not techy enough to know about the bandwidth thingy but it struck me (originally) that the idea of using picture trail when one has several items to sell was quite a sensible one. Because starting 8 different threads to sell one pair of trousers or raincoat at a time would be a PITA for both seller and anyone else wanting to keep a thread in active convos.

true, but if the boards were operated properly rather than as a mish-mash, you could go to a topic called 'toddlers 18-24 mos, boy' and then look at everything in the one place. say ten pics on each listing. i think that would be great.

Aitch · 22/01/2008 23:10

or do a search, or have a form to fill in like the one for recipes?

twospecialgirls · 22/01/2008 23:22

AITCH i havnt read the whole thread i cant find it what happened x
im sorry if i got you stuck in the middle

fletchaaarr · 22/01/2008 23:25
  1. Aitch, you were treated soooooooo badly
  1. I admit to being a hun baiter (all those farking Swap threads that were basically "swap my farkaboo lillywank in snot-puse for a wad of your cash, cos I know that everybody has clicked the no buying/selling box so I will put it in this topic") - I used to go on and say "not on". Also recently on a thread wanting a "fone"
  1. The threads ads should be made searchable rather than just a listing by time, maybe only searchable. Like ebay. They never appear in active convos
  1. If you say "hun" or "lol" or "l8er" in any posting the thing gets pulled
  1. I will think of more
Aitch · 22/01/2008 23:28

twospecialgirls, you didn't at all. it was nothing to do with you trying to help previously, don't worry. i think they just saw the opportunity for some 'revenge' and took it. (twats, tbh).

fletchaaarr · 22/01/2008 23:31

Oh also - My local freecycle has rules on how you list your stuff. What it is, where it is etc.

That is a free service, and the people who are listing are giving it away

They still manage to abide by the rules

They are giving it away

They still manage to abide by the rules

People selling on here are probably making a quid or half. So have some really simple rules

What it is. In the title.

?

twospecialgirls · 22/01/2008 23:36

i can honestly say i will never sell on there again im embarrased at what i said tbh i dont behave like that
i just have never been so angry at a laptop screen she made ma so mad

Aitch · 23/01/2008 00:05

oh don't worry, it's been deleted. if you think you've something to apologise for (not sure if you do, tbh) then just say sorry tomorrow. night then.

Aitch · 23/01/2008 00:05

i mean the whole thread's been deleted.

arfishy · 23/01/2008 11:58

Good Lord. I was just getting ready for bed and got sucked in. It was like Prisoner Cell Block H over there.

I think we should get rid of the for sale boards. They're not 'mumsnet'.

If I want tickers, poor spelling, car boot mentality I'll go somewhere else. I like mumsnet for what it is and if being able to spell, have a constructive debate, hear well-researched information and not resort to school-yard bullying is "being posh" then well fine. I'll be posh.

Sonnet · 23/01/2008 12:17

Read the original thread Aitch and you didn't deserve it.
Ban the huns or set it up like Ebay. If a genuine mumsnetter wanted to sell their thread would sink in to obscurity against the professional sellers.

AFriendInNeedIsAFriendIndeed · 23/01/2008 12:25

I don't think it should be banned or set up like ebay.

Form what I gather the for sale boards were originally for people who wanted to sell off old baby bits etc, so there should be rules making sure it can only be like that.

If threads were limited to however many per person per week, and had to have something about what was being sold in the title they could exist perfectly well alongside other aspects of MN.

JustineMumsnet · 23/01/2008 12:29

Howdee folks. See here for further discussion on For sales boards. Do add your twopenneth.
Thanks.

whomovedmychocolate · 23/01/2008 15:43

Bumping so we can all give Justine a penny or two
