At the top of the For Sale Board, setting out the etiquette of 1) Putting a relatively descriptive thread title of the item being sold (will make it far easier to search for what MNers need, and 2) Not to bump their thread so much that it blasts all other For Sale threads into oblivion.

It seems that there are some halfwits picturetrailers on the For Sale boards who are trampling all over decent MNers struggling to self-regulate and respect others' wishes in order to make it accessible to everyone.

see here.... Although I suspect you've been closely moderately said thread....

Thank you

I'm another one who actually likes to use the for sale boards sometimes and I have sold stuff that was not baby clothes. IE I had some books that (after a thread on another part of the board) I thought some MNers might like, listed them, sold some, no hassle at all. I've also tried more than once to sell some baby clothes - and am about to try again - but I find that a bit baffling. I'm trying to sell outgrown, worn stuff very cheaply ie just enough to cover postage, a jiffy bag to post the stuff in and, you know, a few pence on top.

But I am pretty baffled about why the not-into-for-sale people are getting quite so aereated about it. Regard it as a wierd little ant farm in the corner of the room: safe to ignore but now and again moderately amusing to see what the little scuttly ones are up to.

Sorry, that thread was appalling and I am horrified at some attitudes on this site.....

This is what gets me madamez, I have 'general stuff' I would love to sell on so it gets used, but am not desperate for money for it so don't want to ebay. The few times I have tried it just gets lost in the maelstrom so I give up.

Whizzz · 22/01/2008 20:43

I tried to add my (normally not controversial) voice to the topic last week. People are now openly saying 'Hi I'm new here' & then wanting to sell 100 quid items like prams & phones. You wouldn't hand over 100 quid to someone in the street so I don't see whay it's a good idea to do it on MN. People then start slinging mud & sending round the mynch mobs when things go astray. There's been debates about whether to phone people's work numbers FGS to chase up parcels ! I'm suprised there's not a 'MN' Buyers & Sellers Minibus trip to hunt down said 'Seller'

aitch darling, if you think they hate you, you should see how much they love me....!
my modest proposal www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1910&threadid=458607#9303920.
they are so taking the piss (some of them) and are beyond rude and horrible (some of them).

ItsNeverTooEarlyForPopcorn · 22/01/2008 20:56

Mercy - I requested for the earlier post to be deleted. IMO the picture was poking fun at all of these "for Sale posters" and I thought it was out of line and the stereotype was completely wrong.

I completely understand the anger towards the constant bumpers and picture trailers.

I understand your POV that it isn't offensive as it wasn't a personal slight.

expatinscotland · 22/01/2008 20:59

gawd, get rid of it!

there are enough places to buy and sell stuff in cyberspace these days.

not to mention the local boot sale.

VictorianSqualor · 22/01/2008 21:08

LOL CF, you know youre a gobshite that needs to get laid, stop complaining

BIWI · 22/01/2008 21:13

It would be interesting to know exactly how much the For Sale boards generate for MN.

I can quite appreciate that they would want to maximise their revenue, but I really think that this is becoming a serious issue within the MN community.

Ignorant and ill-mannered attacks on anyone (but especially Aitch) are unforgiveable and should not be what MN is about.

It really is time for MNHQ to do something about this.

(and btw, what does BNTW or whatever mean?!)

VVVQV · 22/01/2008 21:16

Thank you!

(Is that also a euphemism for 'fresh off the back of a lorry'?!)

controlfreakygobshite · 22/01/2008 21:18

yup. vs. that's me, it's a fair cop!
i did change my name to include gobshite at the huns suggestion..... a sort of homage to their culture if you will.

expatinscotland · 22/01/2008 21:18

now, BIWI!

i got shot down for even suggesting such a thing!

you baddie .

LIZS · 22/01/2008 21:19

BIWI - surely the answer is nothing ! terhe is no subscription , no fee , no % that's why it is such a mess and is so easily abused. It's not even as if MN has an affiliation with Photobucket, picturetail or whateverthe latest jumble sale link is. The business/advertising boards do attract a fee but not sure it is really significant.

BNWT is Brand New With Tags ie bought(nicked ?) but not used/worn or BNWOT is as above without tag

HMunk · 22/01/2008 21:23

PMSL at ant farm and scuttly things.

Aitch · 22/01/2008 21:27

lol at 'especially aitch', BIWI, oh yes i am...

VVVQV · 22/01/2008 21:29

Well, I havent seen anyone argue against my OP.....

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 22/01/2008 21:40

Even the nappy lady has stopped classified ads because they were being abused.

How about a nominal listing fee - even if it's 10p - paid in advance. Give it to charity MNHQ if you must but perhaps it'd help. Then you could for example buy 10 goes at annoying Aitch for a quid (bargain )

Also ban the frigging bumps. You are not allowed the bumps unless it's your birthday and even then only one. This would be an excellent rule.

theyoungvisiter · 22/01/2008 21:42

crikey o riley. I hide the for sale boards so missed poor Aitch's battering.

Are you ok aitch? [checks aitch carefully for imprints of hun-shoes on face]

FWIW I think the for sale boards should be put on a separate, paid-for forum but MN should allow free-for-postage posts. That's more in the spirit of MN than the current situation on the for sale boards in my opinion...

Aitch · 22/01/2008 21:42
BecauseImWorthIt · 22/01/2008 21:43

So bad, Expat, I had to change my name back in case someone comes after me ...

whomovedmychocolate · 22/01/2008 21:43

Oh and can tech write a bit of code which translates the word 'hun' into 'Pardon me, I'm a bit thick'?

Aitch · 22/01/2008 21:43

i am fine, thankyou very much miss daisy.

ItsNeverTooEarlyForPopcorn · 22/01/2008 21:44
