Ideas for a black section on mumsnet.

Should we have separate sections i.e black hair and beauty, black parenting, black cooking or a general black section?

RTFT BEFORE YOU COMMENT. FFS

If you were talking to me, then you are very impolite. I don't need to read a whole thread in order to give my point of view.

Phoenix21 · 13/09/2020 22:13

@flatnightmare
I'm loathe to describe these kinds of comments as virtue signalling. They're kind and reassuring. Thank you.

I second this.

Black Parenting??? Seriously????? Such a stupid thread!
Other forums are available.
EchoCardioGran · 13/09/2020 22:18

@MrsTwentyEight

Only read the first few pages of this thread. I just want to say, the fact that the OP has received so much backlash for wanting to create a space for a group of individuals who have suffered far too much and are suffering to this day exposes the blatant privilege that exists in society. Shame on every single one of you who has questioned the need for that space to exist. How dare you assume their lived experiences are the same of yours ? What do you even know about Black hair / culture/ lifestyle? What do you know of the pressures they face everyday? The microaggression in their work places / daily lives? The fact that some of you believe there is no racism and it is as simple as 'be nice and we will be nice as you' - that is sheer privilege. Educate yourself please. Irony is that the people claiming 'there is no racism', 'there is no need for a separate section' are the ones exposing the racism in society (and on MN). Disgusting.
MrsTwentyEight You are a good and decent human being, my heart is warmed.

Thank you OP!

I look forward to the new section starting up. I think I would prefer a single topic initially and then we could create different areas as the level of interest in different themes dictates.

MrsTwentyEight · 13/09/2020 22:30

@EchoCardioGran Thank you. How kind. I am part of BAME too but even I know that I cannot relate to all the racism and prejudice experienced by Black people. I found it funny that someone decided to suggest that the section should be for 'BAME' instead of Black people, as though categorising us all under one umbrella eases all our worries, anxieties and problems, as though they are all the same...Ironic again, it shows how people truly have no idea as to what the actual issues are. Clueless.
This thread truly has been an eyeopener. Especially that one genius who was supporting Tommy Robinson and claiming not to be racist...speechless. Just speechless.

@Mixedandproud. Well said. Could not agree more.

No way is OP anything like Tommy Robinson. She's more of a Sasha Johnson type of gal.

Leakinglikeacolander · 13/09/2020 23:04

@Leakinglikeacolander

Apologies if this has already been suggested/rejected. Could the rather simple 'Black Matters' be the main title so that it encompasses both the area in which discussions and subsections are found but the philosophy of Black lives matter. (I mean in general rather than political movements)
Vote Black Matters

Quaagars · 13/09/2020 23:08

I've read all the thread, yep filing under "sure, that happened - not" section

Quaagars · 13/09/2020 23:09

Glad you got your board, hope they set it up soon

EchoCardioGran · 13/09/2020 23:17

What incredible people I've spent some time with here.
Thanks for your company.
I'm in awe of your resilience and tenacity, and best wishes for the new section.
OP and all, head up! That's some remarkable achievement. Take a bow

Honestly the sooner the better. And how empty andpayhetic must your life be to come on the internet and troll people on a forum after the mods are gone, to get banned in the morning only to repeat the whole thing again the next night. I actually pity just how pathetic your lives must be

AMemeByAnyOtherName · 13/09/2020 23:22

I've gotten to know some great MNers and I hope to see you all often. At least we'll never forget any of this Grin
