Ideas for a black section on mumsnet.

Should we have separate sections i.e black hair and beauty, black parenting, black cooking or a general black section?

Interesting, my post has been deleted - does that mean I was right? EchoCardioGran seems to be in the know. Grin

Ah well, no doubt this will be deleted too - I shall leave you to it. I look forward to the new Board and may even feel bold enough to post on it, we shall see.

Gingaaarghpussy · 13/09/2020 21:48

Can I vote? Even though I'm not black?

Quaagars · 13/09/2020 21:48

The "where's our white section?!" argument is so pathetic and I say this as a white person lol
Did you kick up as much fuss and howl with outrage at the Scottish and Irish boards on here?
LGBT?
If not, but is over this, why is that?
Not segregation, just somewhere to talk with others, can still post elsewhere Hmm
Maybe actually try reading the thread?

Well luckily for you there's plenty more threads on here more to your taste then, isn't there?

KenDodd · 13/09/2020 22:01

How's the campaign going op? Only read first and last page. Is MN going to add some 'Black' sections?

flatnightmare · 13/09/2020 22:01

At the risk of being accused of virtue signalling, I am embarrassed by some of these defensive, accusatory and just plain stupid responses.

There is a time to speak and a time to be silent (and listen.)

roundandsideways · 13/09/2020 22:02

This is such a good idea. I'm Indian, and have some shared experience, but obviously not exactly the same. I would welcome this, hope it happens

Quaagars · 13/09/2020 22:03

Completely agree flatnightmare

EchoCardioGran · 13/09/2020 22:06

@nicky7654

Black Parenting??? Seriously????? Such a stupid thread!
Such a quality contribution. Thanks for calling by. It's been very helpful indeed in forming the decision to have a Black Section I'm sure. Have a lovely, lovely evening there in Pulaski. Don't forget to take your pointy hat and sheet with you and please close the door quietly, or you'll wake all the children napping in the trees.

I'm loathe to describe these kinds of comments as virtue signalling. They're kind and reassuring. Thank you.

A message from my mentor to all the future black section contributors and genuine lurkers.

“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.”― Mark Twain

MrsTwentyEight · 13/09/2020 22:12

Only read the first few pages of this thread.
I just want to say, the fact that the OP has received so much backlash for wanting to create a space for a group of individuals who have suffered far too much and are suffering to this day exposes the blatant privilege that exists in society. Shame on every single one of you who has questioned the need for that space to exist. How dare you assume their lived experiences are the same of yours ? What do you even know about Black hair / culture/ lifestyle? What do you know of the pressures they face everyday? The microaggression in their work places / daily lives? The fact that some of you believe there is no racism and it is as simple as 'be nice and we will be nice as you' - that is sheer privilege. Educate yourself please.
Irony is that the people claiming 'there is no racism', 'there is no need for a separate section' are the ones exposing the racism in society (and on MN). Disgusting.
