Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 21:45

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

This is still happening and it's been days since it started. Can someone please sort it? It's really annoying. Angry

Nobrain · 21/01/2018 19:10

Still happening here Confused

After seeing a previous poster mention that they thought it had something to do with the page not being fully loaded before clicking something else I decided to try waiting a bit longer before clicking the back button.

So I clicked on a thread topic, bang, page comes up pretty much straight away and appears to be complete - but a quick check of the tab at the top reveals that it is in fact not fully loaded as the little blue circle is still spinning (Chrome browser on laptop) it takes a good few seconds to completely load the page due to some unseen thing in the background not loading as quick as the obvious bits. This is on a fast Virgin broadband connection so it would take quite a bit longer on a phone - so, as previously mentioned I think the problem is caused by clicking on a new link/topic before the current page has fully loaded, that current page is not in your history yet so it goes back to the previous page that had been fully loaded.

Since doing this it hasn't happened once. Smile

Could this be problem solved?

I thought this was down to my stupid laptop, I've been snapping and cursing at it Blush. Haven't RTFT but glad it's not just me.

MissionItsPossible · 22/01/2018 19:53

It's like (for lack of technical knowledge/language) it's not keeping a history of the pages you visit. I didn't notice this at first until I was on a thread with six pages. I was on the 5th page and saw a comment and clicked back because I wanted to check what they were replying to on the previous page and it threw me out the thread completely.

SisterMoonshine · 22/01/2018 22:36

Glad it's not just me.

Graphista · 23/01/2018 00:56

Hadn't seen thread before I'm having same issue. Plus I'm sometimes having to close the window and reopen mn to get onto active threads.

Allington · 23/01/2018 01:18

I'm getting this too

ThatIsNachoCheese · 23/01/2018 02:00

Me too. Active is showing as the previous thread when I go to find it on my phone too. Incredibly annoying!!

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 23/01/2018 03:05

Still happening here too.

AristotlesTrousers · 23/01/2018 14:12

Still happening here too (iPad).

Cocolepew · 23/01/2018 14:19

Still happening to me, mobile site on Android.

treeofhearts · 23/01/2018 15:49

Yes! I thought it was my phone as it kept taking me back to the last site I visited.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 23/01/2018 16:41

It just happened again and brought me back here...ironic.

Nobrain · 24/01/2018 17:26

Any update mnhq?

Pombliboo123 · 24/01/2018 21:16

This is now driving me crazy.

I wonder if it's because (picture attached) When I type in mumset in my internet search bar, for just the homepage link it seems to be linking it to another thread. Before this all started it used to just say home or something.

If that makes sense.

it doesn't because I did a horrible job of explaining

OutToGetYou · 24/01/2018 21:17

Yep. It's annoying and am glad to find it's not just me.

TallulahBetty · 24/01/2018 21:24

Omg I am so glad it's not just me!!! Chrome on Android here.

QOFE · 24/01/2018 22:21

Yep I'm also getting the incorrect link thing in my drop down web address box.

So usually I'd have Active Conversations and Feminism Chat there in the drop down suggested web pages. Now I'm getting thread titles instead, but if I click on them I still get taken to Active Convos or wherever. It's like they're being incorrectly cached or something?

QOFE · 24/01/2018 22:23

Like here... the links for Active Convos and Feminism Chat are both masquerading as links to this thread Confused

I got that this morning as well but I don't often get to MN by typing in the address so I don't know how long it's been happening for.

It will display the correct URL but then the page header is a thread title instead of "Mumsnet Discussion" which is what it should say for Active/I'm On.

Sorry this is still affecting some people and thank you for the extra info.

It's in the capable hands of Tech now so hopefully you'll have an update tomorrow.

daisychicken · 27/01/2018 09:25

I'm still having issues with this, in fact it's worse this morning than it has been for the last week - as in its happening everytime I use the back button not just every few times. Hope it's fixed soon!

Needmorehands · 27/01/2018 10:45

This has been happening for a while, another Chrome user here if that makes any difference. I tend to use 'Last 15 mins' and approximately half teh time it will take me back to that page, and the other half, something I have been reading...
