Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 21:45

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

I get this too, intermittently.

bonzo77 · 11/01/2018 13:14

Still happening here too. 🙄

ShamTech · 11/01/2018 17:28

We're still unable to replicate this weirdness so I'd be very grateful (possibly involving gin) if anybody can "video" this as it's happening and email the video through to [email protected] - that will really help us try and figure out this mystery. Please make sure you capture the address bar at the top of the browser as well when you take the video.

Thanks for all the feedback and for your patience while we try and sort this out. Sham

I haven't noticed it happening in the last few days TBH but I'll let you know if I see it again.

I was beginning to think that the problem was solved but it's just happened 3x in a row. It didn't matter whether I was on chat, aibu or primary education. I pressed back to come out of the thread back into active conversations and it took me instead to the homepage on my (chrome on Android) browser.

PositiveAttitude · 13/01/2018 07:37

It's been OK for a few days here, too. But this morning has done it twice already (only been up for half an hour!)

SparklyMagpie · 13/01/2018 10:26

I thought it had been sorted too but nope it's still going strong

Still android internet

ChessieFL · 13/01/2018 11:39

Was ok for a few days for me too but had started doing it again (safari on iPhone).

Fingermoose · 14/01/2018 10:20

Still happening here - going from Active to a thread, then using the back button on my phone takes me to whatever site I was on before Active. On Android on the mobile site.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 15/01/2018 15:58

Aaargh yes, still going, hasn't stopped but is especially bad today. Chrome on android phone.

Pombliboo123 · 15/01/2018 19:31

Seemed to be okay for a couple of days but doing it to me again too... read a thread and press back to go back to active threads and it's taking me to a thread I was reading 2 days ago?

Singerleon · 15/01/2018 19:39

Yes happening for me most of the time, iPhone here so using safari

EggysMom · 15/01/2018 19:41

It's sometimes doing this for me too, not every time.

I'm having a different problem on a different forum where it thinks I'm double-clicking on a heading. I wonder if the two could be related?

I'm a Chrome OS/Browser user.

GreySloanMemorial · 15/01/2018 19:42

Happens to me as well!

Slapbetcommissioner · 15/01/2018 19:47

Still doing it. It keeps taking me away from the website altogether. Please fix it before I have to resort to ne*ms ConfusedHmmBlushGrinWink

Branleuse · 15/01/2018 19:48

The mobile app is buggy as fuck. Always has been. I can barely use it.

You guys need better developers tbh

BexleyRae · 15/01/2018 20:41

Still playing up here as well

Itlante · 16/01/2018 10:14

It's still doing it here too, but not all the time. One thing I've noticed, which I don't know if it's relevant, is that on the drop down menu on my android phone, the description for the active conversations link often has the description of the previous link. I've only noticed this since the back button issue started.
ie.
NDN using my path|Mumsnet Discussion
www.mumsnet.com/active-conversations

WineCheeseSleep · 16/01/2018 18:02

This is happening to me too, I'm using an Android browser on my phone.

Skelacia · 17/01/2018 21:14

I've been getting it for a couple of months. I think it's that something is taking a really long time to load on the page (probably the banner as in the top bar) so I can see the list of posts but up at the top of the screen the loading progress bar still hasn't reached the end. Then when I click through to a thread and then back the browser never actually finished loading the topic page so it sends my straight back to my new tab page. I took a screenshot with the progress bar showing. I'm using Chrome on Android Nougat, if that's helpful for Tech Smile

I can't work out how I'd do a video and have everything readable but it's just happened again - I went from antenatal thread to active to this thread showing here. On drop-down back menu, no Active is showing (the title would be Mumsnet Discussion as in all of the previous transitions between threads).

I defo didn't click from trending or DOTD because it would have had the little identifier on the end of the URL.

@ShamTech
I have done a screen capture and emailed it in
On the video, the first time I click “back” its fine, but the second time it goes back to TIO instead of active
HTH

Dermymc · 18/01/2018 08:56

Still happening here too.

I'm getting the previous thread name displayed along with the active convos Web address too.

ShamTech · 18/01/2018 10:09

@ceeveebee thank you so much for sending in the video. This is immensely helpful. And thank you to everyone else for the continued feedback. We are on the case with this. Will report back as soon as we find the cause.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 18/01/2018 15:15

I get that too Dermymc. I thought it was strange but didn't associate it with the odd back-button behaviour.
I've attached a screenshot but the name of the thread that's showing there wasn't the thread that I'd been on when I clicked back out of Mumsnet. It just seems to stick on the name of one of the threads I visited even if I read and possibly even commented on others after that and even if I go back to Mumsnet later on and read other threads. Does that make sense? Also, if I click on the link in my address bar, it doesn't take me to that specific thread; instead it still takes me to active conversations as normal.
