Weird behaviour with "back" button in browser - anyone else?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 21:45

Over the last few days I've noticed if I'm browsing Active, I'm On or a talk topic and click onto a thread from there, when I press back to return to the list of threads afterwards, it often seems to skip that page and go straight to whatever thread I was reading before that, which is very odd. It doesn't happen every time, but enough for me to notice. I have thought maybe I've clicked back twice by mistake and gone forward again, but it's like the interim page is just deleted from my history as though I never visited it at all.

Is anyone else getting this? It's really strange and disorientating.

I'm on Chrome on Windows 10 on a desktop.

STILL happening here too. It often misses several threads out by using the back button or sometimes it deletes all history in that tab. Very weird and exceptionally annoying

ThursdayNextIsMyHero · 26/07/2018 15:42

Still happening here too. I've just gone back to the start of the thread to see when it started - 7 months ago...

In the last week or so I've also noticed that the Active button at the bottom of the screen (when logged in to the mobile site) sometimes doesn't work either.

Hi there everyone,

We're really sorry but our tech team still haven't managed to replicate the issue, so don't really know how to go about fixing this at the moment.

If anyone in London who's having this issue fancies a visit from MNHQ, we'd be happy to come and visit so we can take a look at what might be going on - if so, post on the thread and we'll contact you using your MN email address.

Again, we're really sorry at how long this is taking to fix, but we do want to get it sorted as soon as we can.

As well as the back button issue, I'm constantly getting page reloads as well (just had to type this twice). I was getting page freezing for weeks, which seems to have stopped for the moment(fingers crossed!) On iPad IOS8.4 with safari.

Itlante · 31/07/2018 13:55

I still don't understand how it can't be replicated at MNHQ, given we have replicated it on a lot of different devices in our household.
It's happening lots today, on my both my chromebook and android phone, and the thread it keeps coming back to is the NakedMil thread - which I read once, and would prefer not to re-read!

Slapbetcommissioner · 02/08/2018 16:44

Happening loads! I'm using the Samsung Internet browser on a huawei p20 pro both up to date and it happens all the time. Happens on my old Sony Xperia xz premium and my husbands Samsung s9 plus as well.

MsHomeSlice · 07/08/2018 16:30

it''s driving me craycray today....almost every time I back button to Active it goes to the "never meet your heroes" thread

I am sick of not knowing who it was and it's gleefully rubbing my face in it. Hmm

SisterMoonshine · 07/08/2018 22:57

I don't come on mumsnet so much lately as it is just too annoying.
I can't believe this is still happening.

The theory about the page not fully loading due to all the ads and extra info now makes sense. So the page doesn't register as history.

SisterMoonshine · 07/08/2018 22:59

I don't need the 'this might interest you' for example.

Pinkywoo · 10/08/2018 12:20

Today it's constantly taking me back to "meet Wanker the worm" or some similar bollocks that I clicked on by mistake two days ago, I don't care about the stupid worm!

Doodlebug5 · 13/08/2018 18:57

Still doing it here. When you press the back button it returns back two pages

EspressoPatronum · 13/08/2018 18:59

Yes me too! I'm on chrome on Android as well.

PutItAwayDear · 14/08/2018 08:51

Mine has been doing this for months!

And I got a new phone 2 weeks ago which does it too despite having latest versions of everything.

I'm also finding that the active convos button at the bottom doesn't work a lot of the time, and about 25% of the time clicking it takes me to the advert it's over (and no, I'm not clicking the advert by accident, it's more like the blue bar isn't registering clicks and instead whatever in under them is being clicked).

Itlante · 29/08/2018 07:44

I don't know if I'm tempting fate, but it seems to have been working normally for some time. I hope that means it's fixed!

GirlInTheDirtyShirt · 29/08/2018 22:01

Mine too! It’s been like this for months and months to the extent I just give up browing because if I’m on a thread and swipe back it takes me to the page I entered Mumsnet on or even a previous website. But it does seem to be working now.

JustfiedandAncient · 04/09/2018 13:05

I've been using a new phone for around a week and it's still happening 😔

LittleMissNaice · 24/09/2018 18:32

Started happening for me again in the last couple of days. Sigh.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 03/10/2018 14:12

Fingers crossed, mine has been behaving again for a while now! Hopefully it stays that way!

Optimist1 · 12/11/2018 08:31

I started my own thread on this subject a few days ago not realising it had been such a long-standing issue for others. It's obviously not resolved.

Reading through the entirety of this thread, I have one suggestion to make - if Tech really can't experience it first hand on site surely remote access to a member's device would give them some insight without them having to venture out of HQ? (Ask me and I might be available to assist).

Optimist1 · 15/11/2018 18:07

POSSIBLE SOLUTION!

Just to let everyone know that I may have stumbled on the solution to this pesky problem. I'd had issues with the Ocado website and their suggestion was that I clear all cookies and see if that helped - it did, and as a bonus I have found that the back button weird behaviour on MN has stopped. HTH

BertieBotts · 19/11/2018 11:54

Nope tried that initially and it doesn't fix it for long. Touch wood though it seems to only happen very occasionally to me now. I do use adblock which cuts down on a lot of extraneous loading stuff.

I would think MN are a bit cautious over security given history so I'm not sure remote access would be appropri ate.
