We used to pay a fiver to CAT though didn't we, when it was first starting out.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/08/2017 13:01

CAT?

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 26/08/2017 13:02

STDG "we are close to the tipping point where the kind, thoughtful, supportive, funny posts will no longer be the majority. If this happens, the decent posters will drift away in ever greater numbers, which will in turn accelerate the decline of the quality of the postings - it's a vicious cycle"

This with bells on!

And it is where Pags earlier idea comes into play. Leave AIBU for "robust discussion" allowing the other board to be free of goading, trolling, sensationalist stuff.

Remember Friends Reunited ?
used to have to pay to use that
I rest my case

Valuedopinion · 26/08/2017 13:08

I paid up, I was half hoping it might entitle me to some later profits down the line, but I have never even been so much as selected for a testing panel Sad

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 26/08/2017 13:11

There is also the model of the type of dating sites where men have to pay and women use the site for free
The women are the product and they are being sold to the men
Furthermore the women are mostly fictitious ....on casual sex sites there are usually 10 men for every one female member
What a money spinner

JennyHolzersGhost · 26/08/2017 13:42

Justine has made it perfectly clear that she doesn't give a fuck what we think so there's not much point discussing it further, really.
It's up to us to decide how that influences the amount of effort and time we each want to put into this site, as a consequence.

birdsdestiny · 26/08/2017 13:45

I don't post on MN for justines benefit. I post on it for mine.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 26/08/2017 14:45

I do post on here for justines benefit

I think i brighten her day

(JOKE!......before christina says anything)

PacificDogwod · 26/08/2017 15:07

I remember CAT - I never actually paid for it, I just did not talk to people off the boards Grin[thrifty]

Justine has done well for herself, and good luck to her.
The 'product' that MN 'produces' is lots of people looking at the advertisement, so of course Justine/MNHQ have an interest to attack as many people as possible to the site.
This has gone waaaaaaay beyond a bit of nice, touchy-feely 'lets all support each other and have larfs along the way' kind of site.

I agree that many posters will likely drift away, but new ones will also come.
Which is what matters for a the bottom line.
Whether we, as individuals, like it or not is totally irrelevant.

'Tis capitalism, innit? Grin

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 26/08/2017 15:12

Attracting people is probably more profitable than attacking them, Pacific... Wink
Damn that air con!!

Christinayangstwistedsista · 26/08/2017 15:18

Been to hairdresser's, my notes will now be about my luxurious lock, because I'm worth it

exLtEveDallas · 26/08/2017 15:19

"of course Justine/MNHQ have an interest to attack as many people as possible to the site"

Unfortunate autocorrect there Grin

Although I do agree, it still makes me sad. Personally I found MN was much more 'fun' and supportive when it was more 'niche'

Was a time when I didn't know anyone that knew or used MN. It wasn't spoken about, no one admitted it and there were in-jokes and sideways smiles about wearing badges or carrying shopping bags with MarsLady's Lemon Drizzle Cake plastered all over.

MN changed when it became more noticeable, more mainstream. When people started linking threads to FB and The Daily Fail had the column "This Week On Mumsnet" - it wasn't niche any more and the community feel disappeared.

It got bigger, it got less friendly and this will continue...yeah it's capitalism, but it still makes me sad.

SerfTerf · 26/08/2017 15:21

Just the one luxurious lock Christina? A prominent one hopefully?

PacificDogwod · 26/08/2017 15:23

It's been feeling not quite the same for a while now - it's hard to put my finger on what it is and I suppose what it comes down to is that I don't like change despite thinking that I'm still young and cool and all that - I'm not. I want to fester in the familiarity and that doesn't feel quite so easy any more.

PandorasXbox · 26/08/2017 15:39

Yes I so agree with your last comment Gin.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 26/08/2017 15:42

Just the one luxurious lock Christina? A prominent one hopefully?

Right in the middle of your forehead? Grin
