Having a group that's open to the public where posters ( and MNHQ ) are being slagged off isn't on and will only cause disharmony and mistrust. Especially if the Reddit users are coming back to MN to post.

I'm afraid I agree 100% with this (if only we had a like/ upvote button ). This current situation is inevitably going to end a lot of hurt and distress (and to some extent has already). It's one thing to slag me off, quite another to pick on individual mumsnet posters and moderators.

Clearly, though, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it, save not to look even when sent links (which I'm resolved to do henceforth). But I do think it's completely unreasonable to openly attack MN staff and MN posters on Reddit and then demand we engage with your opinions on how to run Mumsnet.

A lot of it could have been avoided *@justinemumsnet* if you'd just listen to people's constructive criticism of your mods' actions!

Such a shame, really.

You have countless posters telling you their grievances and you're just nonchalantly ignoring it all.

As I said on the other thread; you don't have to care but it's not really on to pretend you do!

Maybe we've been slow on this, maybe we've made some wrong calls - my post earlier addressed some of the things we think we can't improve based on reading some of the feedback of the last couple of weeks. But I don't believe that justifies the level of nastiness that i've seen on Reddit, I really don't.

Well I'm jumping to the defence of a Mnetter - your post was a clear personal attack. I thought I'd let it stand because I don't want to be accused of bias/ people to wonder what's been said.

Hasn't this all started because of the way MNHQ dealt (or didn't actually deal) with the whole David debacle?

Instead they'd rather spend their time slating another website and its members than sort their trolls out properly.

This is the bit I don't get. You may have a point about how we dealt with the David debacle - I think the team probably would do things a little differently next time. But it was a really tricky situation and the intention was to do the right thing by a potentially vulnerable person. Our moderation was certainly not malicious or even necessarily wrong. Does that really justify the vitriol that's occurred? I don't see it...

Hey at least it's all publicly available for all to see on Reddit unlike on some of the private FB groups. Splinter groups from MN have been happening for ages and now everyone is agog cos they can actually see what people are typing.

That's quite a depressing thought Stoorie but on balance - for the sake of people's feelings - I'd rather it wasn't public I think.

Have you addressed the questions about why you've banned Stratters because she posted a picture on an entirely different forum? I might have missed it.

Or it could be that you were downright rude?
Re Stratters I think I was pretty clear on the thread. She posted a picture on an open public forum comparing a MN mod to a cockroach - she's said some pretty nasty things in particular about that mod recently too. Plus history suggest she's not, shall we say, fully on board with the MN talk guidelines. Given that, it seems clear MN isn't the forum for her - we are just going to be in endless conflict and that, in my opinion, serves no one.

MNHQ should be loving this thread/reddit revolt after all the daily mail is bound to run a story on it and that seems to be the target for them hence letting troll threads stand.

We don't let troll threads stand LDP. We try to give folks the benefit of the doubt however because we don't want someone who needs help to be disbelieved. But as discussed on the earlier thread we're going to look at whether we need to move a bit quicker in the future when we/ MNetters have strong suspicions because we're possibly looking for too much proof.

No, she did not name a Mod with the picture of the cockroach. Someone else named that Mod in a comment. As that person is not identifiable as a poster on here the banhammer swung to the nearest target that is identifiable. Which is Stratters.

It's a public site. Why not make it private if you want privacy? I do think it's a bizarre slagging of a site's users and moderators in public and then acting as if there's been a travesty of justice because you're not wanted back on that site?

No I only don't want Stratters back because she clearly doesn't like the site, the mods and some of the users. Tbh I can't really understand why she wants to come back?

My problem Justine is that you are using a persons posts on a completely different website to make moderation decisions here while in the past you have said you can't use posts from other websites as proof of a troll and I don't like hypocrites.

I've never said that. In fact I've often corresponded with other websites to identify trolls.

Stratters does like the site, she doesn't like some of the things that have happened recently, she doesn't like some users and she was annoyed at the comment one mod made, I would say that most of MN feel that way

Were it just that Christina I'd agree with you. As said, our mod notes and Reddit (though i'm not looking any more honest, it's just too miserable) suggest a more fundamental fissure. I wish it wasn't so.

Hi *@justinemumsnet* seeing as you're here; Something that's been a problem for a while here has been the scammers/trolls on the infertility threads. The Ukrainian ones iykwim. They are fuckers and really need dealing with. They have made a previously safe space a place to be avoided. The mods here are ok about it tbh but they keep coming back. Thought I'd let you know.
