My point was that I think MNHQ could buy in more expert advice than I suspect they do - in order to identify trolls and protect the innocent

Or they could listen a bit more to posters who report them? They don't need experts.

BunnyNeeded · 28/08/2017 00:10

I know, it is tricky. I would say though that the average person, when bored, doesn't trolls Mumsnet with bereavement threads.

In Justine's defense (not that she gives a figgy pudding what I think) - I suspect she started the board with sweet cuddly babies and is now juggling teenagers as am I . I have got so much from this site and would like to thank her/MNHQ for that, but I'm disappointed how MM handled DK.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 28/08/2017 10:26

I know people who think trolling mn is funny. Hmm haha, lets wind up the mc mummies etc. I assume (and hope) they are only in the "lighthearted" end of the spectrum though.

Shame there isn't a way of reporting them, but I have no idea who they are on here.

fruitbats · 29/08/2017 01:53

They are people with mental health problems. That's why MN need to spend some of that hefty profit on asking experts to help them identify posters what are either trolls, or are unstable and are not going to benefit from posting here because it is not a replacement for proper psychological intervention.

What load of shit.
How do you think mn can identify which posters are trolls posting for kicks or because they have mental health issues?
Get a fucking grip

fruitbats · 29/08/2017 01:58

I have been here a long time and don't usually post nasty or aggressive posts, but ffs, I am so sick of seeing ridiculous posts.

How do think mn can differentiate from one post?

I think the experts would need Jo-90's glasses to be able to identify posters through their screens.

BunnyNeeded · 29/08/2017 13:20

Rhubarb ??? Confused Psychologists can recognise personality traits - there are academics specialisting in internet security and personality.

I think you misread what I posted. I said that the sort of person trolling about something like a child's bereavement will likely have some sort of issues going on - these issues fall under the broader heading of 'mental health issues'. I did not say that all trolls have mental health issues or that all those with mental health issues would be/could be/would want to be trolls.

I would like to respond to your 'get a fucking 'grip' comment with a rude comment about your ability to read and infer. Time for a Mumsnet break - this place aint what it used to be. How can so many people fail to understand a simple statement? This car is green and has red wheels does not mean all green cars have red wheels ffs?

fruitbats · 29/08/2017 15:51

@BunnyNeeded. I want to apologise for my comment. Thanks
I am not usually so rude.

I tried to post on that thread, but then could just not be arsed was too overcome by emotion and sadness for the OP

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 29/08/2017 19:13

Sorry Maryz - I shared the link before Iona reassured us all...

PacificDogwod · 29/08/2017 19:15

There is a limit to what MNHQ can 'see'.
I'm still not posting on it on the grounds of 'if you cannot say anything nice'.... Hmm

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 29/08/2017 19:17

I think I'm on three reports, gonna stop now though as I don't want to report "excessively" and get a ban for it.

Wrt MH issues: none of us here know anything about anybody (profound statement of the say - you are very welcome).
IMO and IME serious MH illness is really quite recognisable, more low level Mental 'Unwellbeing' is much harder to spot.
People with MH difficulties also watch TV, read magazines, speak to their neighbours, interact in all sorts of ways with the world around them and are all around us (or ARE us).
Trolls are at best harmless fun-seakers and at worst nasty bastards, whereas most posters are not looking to upset anybody it is easy to write a title or an OP that is 'triggering' for various people for various reasons. Nasty trolls are not 'mentally ill', they may be simply thoughtless or enjoy hurting people which is likely due to a personality disorder and not illness. They know fine well what they are doing - pricks!!

I don't think it is possible to interact with the world and not potentially get hurt, particularly when vulnerable.
I do not see it as the responsibility of a forum to be any more protective or nurturing than any other gathering of people. So, just as it is not acceptable to throw a punch in the pub or start shouting abuse at somebody in RL, it is not acceptable here.
I think it is our responsibility as users of this forum to bee-hive, but equally I get very impatient when one cannot mention 'loofahs' (WTAF?!) without a trigger warning and I am saying that as somebody who lives with somebody with an 8 legged beastie phobia and experience of other phobias.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 29/08/2017 19:25

This is so disappointing. I had a personal (and positive) response to a report recently, then a personal reply to my reply - I genuinely felt it was going back in the right direction.

Then goady horse fucker comes along, and this. :(
Though I imagine they're probably having too many reports to reply to them individually!

PacificDogwod · 29/08/2017 19:26

Beyond, I reported 3 threads yesterday and all 3 of them were taken down.
Sigh.

By 'seeing' I mean some kind of clever IT evidence that somebody is a PBP.

PacificDogwod · 29/08/2017 19:50

Ha!
Rose tinted glasses have just come off on the horse thread Grin

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 29/08/2017 20:10

Ah dammit, I missed it! What happened?

derxa · 29/08/2017 20:15

Horse thread has gone down but quite amusing while it lasted. I suppose this is MNHQ's dilemma. The thread was goady but it brought a lot of clicks. No one could have really taken it seriously but it was nasty at the same time.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 29/08/2017 20:15

Ah never mind - I have an email 👍

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 29/08/2017 20:16

X post derxa :)

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/08/2017 20:28

That DawnMN is on fire lately!

Olympic levels of banhammering Grin

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 29/08/2017 20:28

Coincidentally (perhaps I need a spreadsheet?) my email response was from the same person who responded the other day that I mentioned above.

Can I ask - did policy officially change straight back to responses, or does it require fiddling with something?
Either one person is going above and beyond (and deserves some gin), or the rest of the staff need a (friendly! I know tone has a habit of going wrong in text!) kick up the bum Grin
