@JustineMumsnet
You said:
"We would love to hear any thoughts on how we might move on (although obviously some banned posters may not be able to contribute directly - but please feel do free to drop me a line via [email protected])"

"But I agree, as said, the vitriol felt by some is far from ideal and we'd love to mend some fences if at all possible"

Do you mean what you say? Because You don't answer any messages I send and you banned me when I tried to communicate via the last thread.
One of the issues people are having with Mumsnet right now is the lack of communication. Please communicate.

If Stratters had such a long history of trolling, why was she allowed back onto the site after a suspension? It makes no sense to me.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 19:00

Yes that what I don't understand ok to tear shreds of sparkle or glitter in my pants lady & other one so why is it a different rule for likes of Reddit to do same, obviously my username has been taken to literally.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/08/2017 19:02

I was always under the impression that it was extremely bad form to bring arguments across forums? Has that changed?

SecretNutellaFix · 25/08/2017 19:04

Salmotrutta

I used to lobby for it to be renamed AIBAC. Sadly it was never considered.

AIBAC- Am I Being A Cunt?

Fight Club would be a suitable alternative though

Bitchfromhell · 25/08/2017 19:04

Blimey, Just caught up with the last thread.

Not sure what to say just now, glad changes are imminent but sad @stratters got the boot. I really think one of the benefits of mn in years gone was the ability to recognise posters. Not just if they're nice or funny or prolific but knowing the name and recognising they're not a troll because they've been on loads of threads and been around a while. And I say that knowing I'm a serial name changer. But that was due to protecting my privacy, I've spent a shit load of time here over the years, mn has been a godsend to me for various reasons. I hope that doesn't change. Dealing with rl shite would be worse. But I do feel very sorry for those that aren't welcome here anymore that should be here. And sad that there are so many trolls that are so unwelcome, that are here, often unchecked recently, all the time.

xTinkerhellx · 25/08/2017 19:05

Seems hugely hypocritical to not allow a TAAT on here, but then actively seek out posts on an entirely different web site and use it to influence your decisions in regards to users on this one.

If we are using criminal analogies, as per Justine and her shoplifters, wouldn't that be akin to allowing a defendants previous criminal convictions to be used in a current trial?

I don't understand the ban and not tell them why policy. Or rather I do, but think it's pretty shitty. When they reregister to ask why they were banned/why their emails are unanswered, they can then be banned again with the justification of PBP. Whenever this decision is subsequently questioned, the answer will be 'PBP !' with no reference to why they were banned in the first place.

'Ignore and hope it goes away' is an odd strategy for running a business.

SerfTerf · 25/08/2017 19:05

Just send AIBU over to Reddit.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 25/08/2017 19:05

Need to catch up, but tiny post here first...

If stratters is indeed a troll and you have six million reports on her profile to show you this, then it rather demonstrates how well the banning process (or not) works for trolls, doesn't it?

Not that I believe she is a troll.

MadMags · 25/08/2017 19:07

Beyond they don't mean she's a troll. They mean that she was pesky and wouldn't just shut up about it all like a good little userbot.

Mightybanhammer · 25/08/2017 19:07

Has the first thread been deleted then?Confused

User843022 · 25/08/2017 19:08

'Not that I believe she is a troll.'
Didn't they just mean they got as many complaints about her as a troll, not that she was an actual troll?

BackieJerkhart · 25/08/2017 19:08

No mighty it was full.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 25/08/2017 19:09

AND...

Surely either both comparing posters to shoplifters and the cockroach picture are okay (and stratters twitter picture is therefore jarring but not bannable), or neither are okay? Similar concepts...?

The Milton thing isn't even calling MNHQ staff cockroaches!
This smacks of leaving the original thread up to see who commented from Reddit and pick them off if they are identifiable.

NormaDesmondsEyebrows · 25/08/2017 19:10

Another thing that makes me a bit Hmm is how MNHQ are forever saying they've never changed their policy on trolling.

Have a look at Classics! Tbh I think that's half the problem. You used to be able to post a funny thread that would become full of posters 'getting it' and taking the piss, mucho jocularity. Now you'd risk a ban for either starting or taking the piss on a thread like that.

Meanwhile the many 'live updates as I discover my husband's second family with a Russian transvestite' trolls run amok.

BackieJerkhart · 25/08/2017 19:10

So is that why they have banned her? Confused because she has had as many complaints about her as a troll?

I suppose we aren't entitled to any clarification on the reason for banning from HQ? Not that they were shy about divulging her history of being reported.

With regards to reddit, there are 2 subsections on there around MN, one just a group of people who are looking for the old style MN and re creating that, and one with posters wanting to discuss trolls/frustrations with MN.
The latter has had some brutal posts by odd posters (but they on the whole are pulled up by others on there), I am no wall flower and the odd comments has Shock me Grin.
However the trolls section on the whole it is a group of people speaking as they may to their mates down the pub, with no rules around what they want to say.
I think at the moment its raw for some people, who are mourning the loss of their community.
On the flip side I think the MN team do take constructive feedback, but there are times I think they take some shit that if I was an employer who had a duty to safeguard them I would have something to say to the consumer.
MN is a massive site, there is no way all the people all the time are going to be happy with decisions etc, I suppose its weighing up if on the whole it suits you and if it doesn't anymore, its a waste of our energy arguing?
Looks like I have a fence truly up my arse, as I can genuinely see both sides.

SoNouveau · 25/08/2017 19:11

Penisbeaker was embarrassing.

Anyway, I like Milton, is he gender fluid?
[head tilt]

Maudlinmaud · 25/08/2017 19:13

Genuinely not sure what's gone down here in the last 24 hours. Some sort of a squabble over an insect Confused and stratters has been ejected?

I like stratters Sad

PacificDogwod · 25/08/2017 19:17

Reddit hurts my eyes and my brain.

FightClub as some kind of insane asylum is a great idea.

Banning stratters not so much Hmm

AnnMeredithPerkins · 25/08/2017 19:17

I missed it all too

SoNouveau · 25/08/2017 19:17

We need little arrows to give us karma points, not 'like' buttons.
I'll give you a karma point for that ^^ post SNF.
