MNHQ - please can you clarify your policy on fraud?

THREAD ON GENERAL FRAUD - please do not delete.

If someone is accused of committing fraud via MN, by several MNers.
If said MNers have a load of evidence they would like to share with you.

Do you see it as your role to investigate and forward to the police?

Or do you just want to get the site "back to normal" and take a hands off approach?

@katemumsnet please can you clarify?

Wellerrr - from April onwards, all of this has unfolded because people care and have shown huge concern for a desperate situation. People should be allowed to discuss it. Or how will we ever change things for the better or prevent this situation from happening time & time again?

And as well the legal aspects, there is a moral/ethical dimension too for MN. Partly to protect their reputation/profits, but mostly because on the whole they seem like decent people...

ConstanceCraving · 08/08/2017 08:32

Nobody is making you read these posts WellErr. You don't have any right to tell people what to do just because it's getting on your wick.

WellErrr the threads are there because MN is suppressing debate.

If MN as saying - please send us the info, we're looking into this and will contact the poluce but best not to talk publicly about this then people would have faith they were taking our security here seriously.

But be just trying to get everyone to shut up and not dealung with ut they are ensuring this will happen to more families in the future.

You seem to think you do though? You've all been making demands for days. Talk about people in glass houses....

Making demands? Yeah whatever. Or asking for answers to questions for the last 4 months.

Weebo · 08/08/2017 08:42

If it brought out the truth then, of course, I would.

My goodness! How the hell else is anyone supposed to find out?

This whole situation is shit but the focus should be on the dodgy person.

Weebo · 08/08/2017 08:48

Anyway - I really don't want to her banned so I'm shutting up on this for now.

Zero point reporting anyone anywhere because as far as I can see no legal case to answer.
The whole premise of the foundation was to give people a foot up the rentals ladder with a deposit they didn't have to pay back.
It did not say how these people would be chosen or how funds would be distributed.
Therefore currently £1200 pounds could be given to three acquaintances who 'need' a deposit, job done.
There was never a mission statement, transparency or a sustainability plan (if said website went commercial and subscriptions used to pay out free deposits was the long term goal it still cannot work long term. Even if 100k was raised you are still only helping 200 random people, with no pay it forward or pay it back, it's over). Added to that that current ads on the website may be from other sources, none of if ever added up.
But it does not equate to collecting funds on false pretenses because nothing was ever concrete in the first place.
I would be angry if I were a relative because there are better ways of commemorating someone.
I would also question why some posts from X were allowed to remain in the first place, on the grounds of privacy and taste.

ConstanceCraving · 08/08/2017 08:54

Has anyone who donated received their money back just out of interest?

NerrSnerr · 08/08/2017 09:09

If I was someone inclined to troll I'd be planning some kind of elaborate story right now. It's an attention seeker's dream. Numerous threads on here, pretty much a whole sub Reddit about this one story (and maybe make a few pounds as well).

I know many people are cross about MNHQ's response but it's their business and they're not answerable to us. I know it's said all the time but if you don't like it you don't have to use it. I do feel for everyone who was taken in and I do hope that there is some dialogue behind the scenes between them and HQ. I don't have to hear about it though as it's none of my business.

Update- I have received an email from MNHQ asking if I have any proof of the conversations that took place between myself and DK.

It was in my junk folder so i didn't see it plus I don't check my emails daily.

Unfortunately I do not have proof, they were sent on WA which he was quite insistent I installed, said it was easier as the signal in the hospital was bad Confused

I'm a technophobe so believed this to be true. At no point did I expect the messages to take a sordid turn. Started with lots of talk about the situation and general chit chat and then several references to needing a massage, kept going back to bring this up, then conversation changed direction completely.

This happened on two different nights.

I am understandably not comfortable conversing by WA or any other means any more. There have been phone calls to me on a private number which again were sexually suggestive.

I've since been warned off MN by him.

I made the decision to inform MN of all of this and more several days ago.
They are probably in an impossible situation.

Zoflorabore · 08/08/2017 09:26

Ceto- I must have read your mind

Venusflytwat · 08/08/2017 09:26

Zoflora a quick Google suggests there are various ways you can get deleted WA messages back, if you want to.

GinIsIn · 08/08/2017 09:27

zoflora WhatsApp conversations are often backed up so if you deleted it can be retrieved.
