Abandoning the policy of responding to all reports was a mistake I think.

It's quite startling to read today that @thefirstmrsdv and @maryz have both given up reporting or lost faith in the report system.

I believe ALL reports used to receive a response of some sort? I know there was a bit of uproar when that changed.

I'm thinking that maybe going back to the old way might result in more dialogue and more people willing to report generally ( ?)

I know Honey, it is sad to see some of the old face recognise no longer here. I have fond memories of this place and a number of the posters amongst my seemly huge memories of the trolls It is comforting to wander back and see familiar faces having a chat and a catchup. But it no longer seems like that comfy old pub good for a meet up, more a trendy bar trying to change to fit a new style of visitor which makes you feel oddly out of place.

Maryz I have 9 Confusedwe'll all be in double figures before Monday morning but maybe we may get some solid answers by then.

So where David thread gone now. I have only been on mumsnet a while and now following on Reddit. This is so bonkers. I am so sorry for the real Caroline. This is just awful. I hope he has broken the law and can be charged with something. I can't believe someone laps up all those lovely kind words of support and offers of help and money that so many people made. Shocked. What a rat.

LineRunner · 06/08/2017 19:14

I don't know people are reporting you, HighAlert. You seem exceedingly restrained these days

There was a really interesting thing on one of this weekend's deleted threads. A poster repeatedly referred to a suspected troll as 'cretin'. Many posts later another poster pointed out it's a term considered offensive by many, the person using the word went off and googled why it might be offensive, returned and apologised as they'd thought it meant something else. There was no need to report, the poster didn't get defensive, the thread moved on. That used to happen a lot more, but it is as rare as hen's teeth now, because if you question anything you get a ton of shit chucked back at you.

Yes, I noticed that Polter, it made a refreshing change.

WellErrr · 06/08/2017 19:36

I've had some lovely chats with HQ over the years through reporting trolls

I used to report all the time but I never do anymore, feels like no one reads them.

MargotsDevil · 06/08/2017 19:36

@poweredbybread would you mind sending me a pm with the link to Reddit please? Smile not for discussion here!

poweredbybread · 06/08/2017 19:40

I will try Margotsdevil I have only just worked out how to use mumsnet so can't believe I have managed to set myself up on Reddit !!! Never pm anyone before don't know if you can do it from app but I will try. The set up different on Reddit app but seem to be able to communicate without being terrified it will be deleted at any mo !

NauticalDisaster · 06/08/2017 19:46

Just adding my comment so I get this in TIO for MNHQs eventual reply after discussion.

Mamagin · 06/08/2017 20:09

Have also gone to Reddit. There should be a pinned post on sitestuff where HQ could put up an explanation why a thread has been deleted.
I feel desperately sorry for all those drawn in by the capital letters thread over a period of months. Glad I only posted one message of condolence, and put a couple of quid in my local hospice collection.

Mummylin · 06/08/2017 20:18

I can't work out Reddit at all. 🙁 I tried. So I will just stay here and probably get another deleted thread in my TIO !

Iris65 · 06/08/2017 20:18

I have had some very helpful individual responses.

LineRunner · 06/08/2017 20:24

Thank you for your assistance earlier, Iris.

Butterymuffin · 06/08/2017 20:26

What actually happened with
David and Caroline? I'm away from home and only popping in occasionally. Can someone PM me if we aren't supposed to rehashing it all on other threads?

LineRunner · 06/08/2017 20:41

We're not to discuss it on MN

David and Caroline chat

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 06/08/2017 21:15

I will lure you in. Even if I have to make it myself

Can I come?

I'm another one with the spidey sense. There are times when there's nothing I can put my finger on but something just makes me feel twitchy, & I'll report saying so.

HQ used to encourage that. RebeccaMumsnet wrote a song about it FFS. Something like "If you don't know what to do, Click on report & tell MNHQ." Not any more?

WellErrr · 06/08/2017 21:25

I used to do that too Empress. You'd get a reply back saying something like 'yes me too, we'll keep an eye on it,' or 'all looks fine to us, it's a long term poster' etc.

Back when it were all fields here and Mumsnet was still a community

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 06/08/2017 21:28

Yes, WellErrr. And you'd have a bit of a friendly chat with Olivia or Helen or whoever.

I wonder what happens nowadays if someone says Mitmoo? Probably not much.
