Abandoning the policy of responding to all reports was a mistake I think.

It's quite startling to read today that @thefirstmrsdv and @maryz have both given up reporting or lost faith in the report system.

I believe ALL reports used to receive a response of some sort? I know there was a bit of uproar when that changed.

I'm thinking that maybe going back to the old way might result in more dialogue and more people willing to report generally ( ?)

This is a free site. It's not like people have a claim that they're not getting their money's worth or similar.

Maybe it's time for people to rethink how they respond to threads that seem sensationalist and where things don't 'add up'.

It's frustrating but if people don't invest quite so much and keep things a bit more in perspective, they don't need to leave MN they just have to change how they do things.

I mean, who gives money away to someone they've never met, never spoken to and whose story on JG seems completely spurious and made up. It may be kind hearted, but if the money they've donated is money they can't afford, that's going directly against the HQ guidance "don't give money to people on the internet you can't afford to give"

How many times do they repeat that, and people still ignore it?!!

ALemonyPea · 06/08/2017 17:09

I agree. I simply hide threads now rather than report as the lack of respond from MNHQ makes me feel ignored.

ALemonyPea · 06/08/2017 17:09

A button asking for a response would be beneficial.

TheFirstMrsDV · 06/08/2017 17:10

Its not the only reason.
It seems members are being suspended and the reason given is that they seem to be unhappy with the moderating on MN
That is in response to reporting threads and expressing concerns about dodgy posters and threads.

I reported the CG threads once and did get a reply but I am glad I didn't keep reporting.
There was also a prolific, long term poster who was clearly trolling like a mofo but nothing was done and posters got told off for repeating concerns.

Don't ask me who because this will get deleted and I am sure everyone is fed up of threads going bye bye.

MN is a business and they don't owe me anything. Their place, their rules and I have got an awful lot of good stuff from here over the years.
But I am honestly wary of reporting posts now.

Flowersinyourhair · 06/08/2017 17:10

People are grown ups and there's always the off button...

oldtrees · 06/08/2017 17:10

If people are worried that fraud has occurred and / or a poster is trying to emotionally manipulate women into sexual contact then I think MN needs to do better than "we're looking into it"

How long to we leave it before contacting the police ourselves?

PurpleDaisies · 06/08/2017 17:11

A button asking for a response would be beneficial.

Only if they are actually going uk respond.

GherkinSnatch · 06/08/2017 17:13

I dunno, I still report things. I can see an argument for a response being a good indicator that the report has actually been seen by a real person, but then I don't report things to get a pat on the back or to feel like "I-know-something-you-don't-know", which is the vibe that some people give off when they do their pithy little "reported" replies to threads or on-thread troll hunting.

Agree a button asking for a response could be beneficial for situations where a question is being asked, but it would be abused be people demanding to know how the moderation process works.

daisychain01 · 06/08/2017 17:13

And I know I'm swimming against the tide on this!

It would be a shame if the site folds because genuine people would lose out from so much support, for example two people I've connected with on here lost their DHs in tragic circumstances. This site was a life line to them.

troodiedoo · 06/08/2017 17:13

MN don't owe anyone a response. You've done your bit by reporting now forget about the thread, just hide it. It's the equivalent of getting a well done sticker from teacher. We are grown ups now.

JennyHolzersGhost · 06/08/2017 17:13

They're ginning up the finances for a new investor / IPO by running things on a shoestring. So of course their customer service will be as crap as they can get away with. Just remember when posting that you're the product, not the customer.

Daisy MN isn't going to fold over this.

GherkinSnatch · 06/08/2017 17:17

Why on earth would the site fold over people disagreeing about the moderation policy??

FindingShark · 06/08/2017 17:17

"How long to we leave it before contacting the police ourselves?"

Contact now. Either directly, or through crimestoppers.

daisychain01 · 06/08/2017 17:18

It has become unsustainable to handcraft a response to every Report.

They do look at them because from time to time I've had the auto message and then a day late someone from HQ has sent me a PM as a follow up.

Obviously Davidgate has created unprecedented amounts of traffic. They're probably going to have to work through the night trying to make sense of everything and put out a statement. Should we be bashing them at this time?

daisychain01 · 06/08/2017 17:19

Bad publicity.

Don't underestimate the damage it can do.

PurpleDaisies · 06/08/2017 17:19

I agree constance, I think people are getting overly dramatic here.

It didn't fold over Jeffrey, olivers army, dizzy mare or any of the others.

FindingShark · 06/08/2017 17:20

And in fairness to mumsnet - I reported a thread that was a woman who thought her partner may be abusing children through an organisation - MNHQ did get in touch with me (but I'd already taken it further), so I do know they respond sometimes.

Turns out it was a troll but I am still happy I reported it to the relevant people

KakunaRattata · 06/08/2017 17:20

I report a lot less since the change as it started to feel like you're being ignored or being awkward. It went from a bit of personal dialogue (And a laugh sometimes), to a generic message to nothing so you've no idea if anyone's even reading them.

SerfTerf · 06/08/2017 17:21

No @troodiedoo it's not that.

It's more about knowing someone at HQ have caught your drift. So that you can clarify if you clearly haven't explained properly or make follow up points. Dialogue.

OP posts:
SerfTerf · 06/08/2017 17:22

MN won't fold.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 06/08/2017 17:24

Why do you need a button to say you would like a response? Just ask nicely where you type in the reasons for the report.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 06/08/2017 17:26

The site isn't going to fold.

daisychain01 · 06/08/2017 17:26

You've done your bit by reporting now forget about the thread, just hide it

^ yup. People over invest and keep going back for more, even when the thread is winding them.

" Hide this Thread " is the Healthy option - helps the blood pressure Grin
