You remember you were going to impliment all kinds of things, Message which explained posts were deleted due to disablism, Emails to the posters, proactive buzzwords...

a year on what has been the result of this massive change in moderation?

Now i'm not suggesting this was a carrot, dangled to try and stop people leaving....
But we donkeys ARE getting a little tired of walking and woudl like to know what plans are there for the future to stop attacks.

Pag, she's her own woman now, but that's not the point. It wasn't done quickly enough and I still don't have all the answers I have asked for.

Pagwatch · 08/07/2017 18:00

I completely understand that DawnDonna. I'm not saying it's ok and I can imagine how angry I would be if someone said that about my DD

I'm just trying to say that it's her ability to stand up for herself that bothers the trolls and that, of itself, is a good thing.

BishopBrennansArse · 08/07/2017 18:03

That's the problem. Stand up for yourself as a disabled person and you're an 'arsehole' or 'bring it in yourself'. Point out a carer is doing something illegal and you get doggedly told how awful you are. Sigh.

Yes, it is. Thanks.

picklemepopcorn · 08/07/2017 19:43

When a post is really awful, I report several times in the hope of attracting attention to it. I do apologise for the multiple...

As much as you like to dismiss him as a previously banned post Just / Jason has repeatedly raised excellent points in regard to how people with disabilities are treated on this site, he hasn't always gone about it in the most sensible way but he has had very valid points which shouldn't be dismissed.

As zzzzz has said above I'm not sure the people at HQ realise what a lifeline this site is and exactly how it feels when these attacks happen.

You keep saying Disablism will not be tolerate, sometimes this requires action to be taken as things start getting out of hand rather than after, this may mean freezing posts to a thread once attacks happen rather than deleting everything, or highlighting Hate speech instead of deleting it.

Samcro · 09/07/2017 12:19

i do think mn hq need to be a bit more proactive.
I was just reading the CG thread and omg the disablism on there is dreadful. the parent hate. awful, yet nothing done,
had to rant some where so picked here.

bitteroldhag · 09/07/2017 13:17

It's disgusting isn't it Samcro and it doesn't matter how many times things are reported. Sad

user1499604348 · 09/07/2017 13:50

Yes I am puzzled why the disablism is allowed to stand on the CG thread and the personal attacks on his parents (whatever the opinion on his medical treatment is) are allowed to stand when other entire threads are deleted.

JennyjENjENJenny · 09/07/2017 14:47

I'm another who is getting tired of seeing the same people pop up and spout their nonsense on threads regarding the disabled, It's amazing some of them are still around, It's fucking disgusting and it's just going to get worse as MNHQ refuse point blank to update their style with the changing voice of the masses.

The internet has changed, HQ need to change with it.

If people were just kind and considerate and used their common sense instead of always being up for their own "rights", things would be obvious and there would be no idiocy about buggies (no one should use one on a bus if it can't be folded), for example.

We were at an event recently and wheelchair users were given priority without question when the coaches were nearly full - all able-bodied people automatically stood back.

This is the kind of attitude which should be shown towards any sort of disability, surely. I really don't get what there is to debate.

Macbride111 · 09/07/2017 18:15

The attitude is there for many people. It's just a select minority who think they have rights over the disabled. These wheelchair pram threads make it seem like the majority do it

allegretto · 09/07/2017 18:19

Why is it disabilist to discuss pushchairs/wheelchairs on buses? Confused

Saucery · 09/07/2017 18:23

It's not, allegretto. It's disablism to say anyone has priority over the wheelchair space apart from the person who uses a wheelchair.

Macbride111 · 09/07/2017 18:32

Another real problem is someone may genuinely not know the law regarding this or are unsure what to do. So they make a thread on MN only to be shouted at for being ignorant

SwissChristmasMuseum · 09/07/2017 18:35

Isn't the main problem lack of compassion/understanding/empathy, but mainly utter self-centredness and lack of common sense, rather thsn ignorance?

user1499604348 · 09/07/2017 18:36

Very true the same thing happened with a blue badge thread yesterday which suddenly got deleted

allegretto · 09/07/2017 18:38

I don't think that's disabilism, it's just incorrect.

My son is autistic and I felt attacked recently on a thread by posters who did not have a clue about raising a disabled child. I was lest in tears and left the thread. It is not just on mn it is in rl also, bigoted people who say they deserve a good hiding when they are having a melt down.

user1499604348 · 09/07/2017 18:44

This comment was in agreement with Macbride111 the danger is people are afraid to ask questions for fear of being abused or labelled disablist.

Saucery · 09/07/2017 18:49

It doesn't matter if people 'cry' to MNHQ. If it's not disablism or a personal attack it won't get deleted.
If you're disablist or insulting then you will (eventually, probably) be deleted. Best to just have a think about if you fall into either or both of those categories before you post.

Macbride111 · 09/07/2017 18:49

We can discuss immigration without being racist. We can discuss the pay gap ( or lack thereof) without being sexist. We can discuss other subjects without these 'isms'
