HQ. Please. Make a decision about the ads. Either make them less intrusive or give us an option to pay a sub and get rid of them.

I'm on laptop, mobile on phone and sometimes Ipad. They make the site unusable and I'm going to be investigating an adblock today.

I am sure that is not what you want - I understand the need for ads to generate revenue, but when they are so intrusive that they interfere with the ability to use the site then you've gone a bit too far in the wrong direction.

Also, I wouldn't buy anything that is advertised like that, in an intrusive ad that pisses me off, because instead of thinking fluffy warm thoughts about the product being advertised, I'm thinking "FUCK THE FUCK OFF YOU ANNOYING TWAT" which I am sure is not the intention of the advertiser.

"The most effective way to deal with the ad in the middle of the threads is to scroll past it."

This is actually the funniest thing I've read in a long time. Nice one.

LineysRun · 24/05/2017 15:29

Much better explanation Smile ^^

And even with WiFi, it's extremely slow on many devices.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 24/05/2017 15:29

I would understand if Mumsnet said "yeah, we're a business and we want to make a tasty profit". That'd be fine and then people would not feel guilty insttalling AdBlockers. But to act like it's all just covering costs seems disingenuous

I came on to say exactly this. Mumsnet need to stop treating users like idiots and fess up that they want to maximise profit. I particularly hate when they say about "keeping the lights on" as if they're scrabbling every month to makes ends meet.

TonySopranosVest · 24/05/2017 15:33

The most effective way to deal with the ad in the middle of the threads its to scroll past it.

I'm actuall shoed that is is the attitude being displayed.

I leaving all of those typos because the reason they're here is do to the site being so fucking laggy due TO THE HUGE AMOUNT OF ADVERTS slowing everything down to the point of having to type at 10 WPM.

A joke.

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 24/05/2017 15:33

Is it taking anyone else up to 15 minutes to post a link or a pic?

OlennasWimple · 24/05/2017 15:36

Especially given that many pp on this thread have said they would rather pay a subscription fee than deal with the obtrusive ads

EnidButton · 24/05/2017 15:41

Click bait ads now? So naff.

For the love of the wee man please do something about the ads
EnidButton · 24/05/2017 15:42

And can I point out there is only 2 and a half lines of text visible there because of the ads

ElBandito · 24/05/2017 15:52

This is a joke. How can Mumsnet honestly look at some of these screen shots with just 3 lines and tell us to 'scroll past', what patronising crap!!!
Given up on my phone and now the battery on my iPad is taking a right hammering.
I've come here today to escape from a shitty miserable week, but this is not making me feel better.

Bearfrills · 24/05/2017 16:02

Instead of just basically telling us to suck it up, can you not put out a survey to see how many users would be open to the idea of an optional MN Premium where for a small monthly fee you can enjoy the site ad free?

You could also ask how many users are completely put off by the new ads, particularly the huge ones slap bang in the middle of threads. It affects the under experience massively, it's quite often inappropriate especially on sensitive threads, and it limits accessibility for disabled users.

Keep the sidebars if you must. Keep the ad at the top of the screen if you must. But for Pete's sake please get rid if the big square flashing ads in the middle of threads.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/05/2017 16:12

I particularly hate when they say about "keeping the lights on" as if they're scrabbling every month to makes ends meet

I'm actually wondering if they are - their use of advertising has definitely noticeably increased and in a more intrusive fashion over the past few weeks.

I wish they would at least consider a pay-for-no-ads version of the site.

alltouchedout · 24/05/2017 16:19

The most effective way to deal with the ad in the middle of the threads its to scroll past it.

Did you mean to be so rude?

WomblingThree · 24/05/2017 17:05

But then surely the whole point of this is to just keep ramping the annoyance up and up until everyone is begging to pay a subscription. Then no doubt there will be "levels" like on other boards, and the suck-ups who pay the most will get shiny gold stars or summat.

I wonder though if MN will shoot themselves in the foot, as they will have pissed off all the people who would be willing to pay, and casual users won't care either way, or pay.

SpringLake · 24/05/2017 17:20

The most annoying thing that gets me is the ads which move/are videos. Uses a huge amount of data and gets my attention... which is swiftly followed by adding them to my mental list of "don't buy from these guys".

unavita · 24/05/2017 17:21

Adblocker plus has stopped working 😕

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 24/05/2017 17:28

Considering how poor their security is, subscription really would take them down.Grin
I expect its more to improve their bottom line before either a sell off or a stock market floatation. But as the forums provided all of the site content I expect a very short window between this and an announcement of someone becoming a multimillionaire. cynical , me never

ElBandito · 24/05/2017 17:37

I've just installed 1blocker and that is working.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/05/2017 17:45

I wonder though if MN will shoot themselves in the foot, as they will have pissed off all the people who would be willing to pay.

As in the ones who have been complaining for ages about the ads, the zombie threads & the user123s, but still have enough loyalty to the site to stick around in the hope someone will listen instead of giving up and buggering off?

Highalert · 24/05/2017 18:00

I think MN has really lost it's way as a forum. It seems to be all about getting as many clicks on ads as possible now. As I said before it's just a click bait site now.

Shame. but there it is.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/05/2017 18:01

I love the running threads & the feminist threads but they're the main places I go really.

myoriginal3 · 24/05/2017 18:09

Greed has taken over.

HeadShouldersYonisAndToes · 24/05/2017 18:12

Is it really truly at the point of needing the same advert three times on one screen?

For the love of the wee man please do something about the ads
EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/05/2017 18:24

This one was sort of funny though.

For the love of the wee man please do something about the ads
brexitstolemyfuture · 24/05/2017 19:21

Unless they are absolutely awfully managed then there is no way they are not making a big juicy profit.

They may of course be run that badly seeing as they use custom software that is/was a leaky seive..

TheNoseyProject · 24/05/2017 19:31

the best way to deal with an ad on s thread is to scroll past it wtf? I'm familiar with how a thread works! The point is it's intrusive and annoying when you already have threads topped and tailed with ads!

See attached - ad in middle and scrolling down with me!
