Please can we have a trans topic. The site is over run with trans threads and I'd like to be able to hide the whole lot of them.

Mumsnet is a mess of unused sub sections as it is. The last thing we need is another one.

I am in total agreement. It has ruined the feminism section. I loved it there and now never go.

Can we also get a Parking topic. A mother in law topic and a wedding invite topic? All generate many threads and i have no interest in them. (So I don't open them)

There's stuff I would like to post in the feminism section but it's so drenched with trans stuff it wouldn't get noticed as it would be lost. So I don't post.

Given that 6 out of the top 10 most active threads on Feminism Chat aren't anything to do with 'trans stuff', I think that's unlikely. Or an excuse.

I swear, if all of the people who "would post in feminism, but..." went over to FWR, the nasty mn feminists would be outnumbered 10 to 1!!

We wouldnt be able to move for insightful and considered threads beyond

Where trans is in the news, it's a feminist issue. Where a parent feels their child might be trans, that's a parenting issue.

MN has been taken over by trans threads. What else is there to be said?

I thought we had reached peak trans a few months ago. Obviously not.

I doubt that HQ will ever create a trans topic out of fear of offending trans people. The backlash and cries of transphobia just wouldn't be worth it to them.

Report
TiggyD · 22/03/2017 19:25

It wouldn't offend trans people. The threads are full of trans people being insulted, belittled, made fun of and demonised. Putting them in an area that could be avoided would mean that trans people could use the other 99% of the site without being exposed to the hatred.

TiggyD · 22/03/2017 19:27

And it should be possible to hide entire talk topics. I'm only really interested in 20 at most. It would be an easier site to navigate if I could just the the 20 I use on the front page.

It is possible to hide whole topics, I've only got about ten left showing. You do it through the Customise page.

Totally agree bloody trans threads are just somewhere for people to rant about scenarios (don't want to get deleted again so will stop there).

Shocked that there is so much anti trans on here, would love a topic I can hide.

Amongst the ones I have hidden are Feminism, Chat and AIBU, I too have had enough of the Trans threads. However I have learnt a great deal from them over the last year or so, I just need a break from them for the time being.

I have changed my mind
Even with a topic people would not use it
After seeing a thread about the london terror in aibu
People dont look at topice, they just post in aibu. Or chat

Perhaps all trans threads could just have a trigger like warning

Report
MiriamWebster · 22/03/2017 20:09

A trigger warning? Why? Usually they have "trans" in the title. If that is triggering then hide the thread.

Report
Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2017 20:09

I have everything hidden apart from about 10 topics. So I manage to avoid most things I am not interested in a heated debate on MN about.

But threads on those topics keep escaping into Chat/AIBU.

No to a trans thread thank you

The discussion of trans issues is because trans is an ideology. There is a difference between saying 'all trans women are rapists' and 'trans ideology harms women'.
Threads that are critical of religious ideologies are allowed to stand, and whilst hate speech such as 'all muslims are terrorists' is not allowed, 'Islam is harmful to women' would be.
Trans ideology is highly topical and rapidly encroaching on women's rights. These discussions aren't going away, sorry.

OP - If you so don't want to see trans threads, why have you posted a zillion times on both trans threads running at the moment, this one and this one?

Report
Universitychallenging · 22/03/2017 20:40

I thought I could contribute something and engage in debate. But trans here is just one long navel gazing exercise with a party line that brooks no debate.

Your posts on that thread show that you are only just beginning to debate this subject. You might eventually be able to contribute. For now, you need to talk, ask, and more importantly, read.

MN's trans threads have opened the eyes of many people on here. Stick around and you might see why. Putting your head in the sand is rarely a good strategy.
