Please can we have a trans topic. The site is over run with trans threads and I'd like to be able to hide the whole lot of them.

Universitychallenging · 22/03/2017 13:42

Well then why are there any topics?

OP posts:
SookiesSocks · 22/03/2017 13:42

Why do you have to hide whole topics?

Cant you not just scroll on by things that dont interest you.....saying that you have posted lots on the trans hen do thread so not really sure why you are moaning now.

Universitychallenging · 22/03/2017 13:46

The point is. There's an entrenched view. There's a prevailing opinion on here and any attempt to put forward an alternative view is pointless.

And there are dear knows how many threads on this in the last day or two and I am just asking the question.

Of course, if HQ say no (as done so before) then that's up to them Smile

Stop trying to make trans topic happen. It's not gonna happen.

WannaBe · 22/03/2017 13:47

The reality is that most people are sick of the sight of trans threads. Anyone who thinks they have a point to make have missed their chance because the topic has been so overdone that most people don't open the threads, only the same posters over and over and over again to rehash the same discussion along the lines of "I don't want a man in my space/you're a transphobe/no I'm not she's not a woman she has a penis/who are you to tell people how to live/don't you know that trans women are all perverted sex offenders who are just out to violate women's spaces" and on and on and on .

The discussion has wandered far beyond the realms of discomfort and into hysteria. Personally I think they should be banned. The level of hatred and vitriol directed towards trans people on MN is far far worse than anything else which would be deemed acceptable on here.

Universitychallenging · 22/03/2017 13:49

Wannabe agree.

I have tried on two threads in the last day or two to put forward another POV but it's a waste of time. It is completely hysteria.

OP posts:
WannaBe · 22/03/2017 13:49

Would we allow this level of hate speech towards black people? Or people with disabilities? No. This discussion has gone way too far. There might well be points to be discussed but people have lost the ability to do so rationally and without resorting to vitriol so the discussion needs to stop.

Universitychallenging · 22/03/2017 13:49

Again wannabe. I agre.

OP posts:
WannaBe · 22/03/2017 13:52

Actually can I make another suggestion? if it's not possible to set up an individual topic, could tech instead build in a filter so users could customise talk for themselves? So I could add a filter for the word trans and that way every thread, every post, and every discussion which contained the word trans would automatically be hidden regardless of where it was posted. You could filter out anything else you didn't want to read that way as well....

PenelopeParmesan · 22/03/2017 14:05

I agree. I'm seeing way too much hate speech towards women who want to retain women-only spaces and do not want to share changing rooms and toilet facilities, or be imprisoned with biological males.

I'm not sure that having all trans related threads in one topic is the solution though.

PutThatPomBearBack · 22/03/2017 14:55

Whilst I agree with most of the opinions on trans threads, it's getting very repetitive and boring now. I'd probably hide them if I could.

BeyondUser24601 · 22/03/2017 15:04

To be fair, if people didn't keep talking about things that have already been addressed elsewhere, it wouldn't get so repetitive.

The 'problem' (obviously I don't actually think it's a problem) is that so many people are having their wtf lightbulb moment, so things end up getting discussed all over again each time a new person comes along

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 22/03/2017 15:08

I dont think there shoukd be a trans topic

Just dont open the thread

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 22/03/2017 15:09

Thats a good idea wannabe that way the decision is in your hands

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 22/03/2017 15:09

Sorry the hiding bit you mentioned

Not the banning of threads

BeyondUser24601 · 22/03/2017 15:10

I think I might have suggested a filter in the past. It's a good idea - would mean that anyone who is eg upset by brexit could literally hide all of it.

Start a thread and I'll add my support :)

FrenchLavender · 22/03/2017 15:11

Me too. It's getting totally beyond a joke now. Just make a topic and move every damn thread that mentions the Trans issue into it, for the love of God. Before we just leave in our droves.

Universitychallenging · 22/03/2017 15:14

To be clear. I'm not suggesting banning the threads at all. And haven't. Just either a topic or filter would be great.

OP posts:
DioneTheDiabolist · 22/03/2017 15:16

Ah go on MMHQ, please set up a Trans topic.

ZackyVengeance · 22/03/2017 15:22

Yes please can we
The ammount of threads is a joke

PutThatPomBearBack · 22/03/2017 15:24

I can't understand why they wont just add it as a topic?! Climate change has its Ian topic ffs!

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2017 15:28

It does seem to be every other thread now. I just roll my eyes and hide as I see them. It's like Groundhog Day.
If the title is informative I can hide it without opening it usually.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 22/03/2017 15:40

They set up topics for the referendum, the general election, Christmas and plenty of others because people got sick or Active conversations being full of threads.

Why is this different?

egosumquisum1 · 22/03/2017 15:44

There's plenty of trans threads. It can be hard to keep up with them and challenging some of the ideas on there. You'd almost think that there was an idea to start lots of trans threads, put out some misleading information on there and keep repeating that misleading information on there to try to get people to change their perception of trans people.

Nothing wrong with trans threads. There are a lot of issues. But sometimes, people put up misleading information and statistics which should be challenged. When that happens a lot on a lot of threads, it can be a bit overwhelming to keep challenging the 'facts' stated.

Hellothereitsme · 22/03/2017 15:59

It is fine as it is. I'm already feeling as though my voice is being silenced in RL. If anyone disagrees with the trans agenda publically they are verbally abused, threatened with violence and their family members are threatened too. Too me it seems like a conspiracy by middle class educated males to put me back to the 1960s in terms of equality.

We need a proper debate out in the open. Not hide it on a website.
