Please can we have a trans topic. The site is over run with trans threads and I'd like to be able to hide the whole lot of them.

Well I learned something from your contributions on the threads linked OP. Apparently my FtM trans child is transphobic, who knew! Don't worry, it's nothing we haven't been told before as the family of a trans person who doesn't tow the trans activists line. Which is why I have name changed to make this post as the abuse is something we don't need when we have so much on our plate.

Just bear in mind that the average trans person wants these conversations to be had so that together we can work out how to meet the needs of both trans people and females who feel vulnerable, because both deserve to feel safe. A very large proportion of trans people are female bodied after all. They are just much much quieter.

If you think by yelling transphobe at anyone asking questions about how we can get this right for everyone and not just MtF trans you are sticking up for trans people, then you're wrong. You're sticking up for the extremist trans activists that make life hell for the average trans person who just wants to be left alone to live in peace! Thanks for that.

There are too many sub-groups already, imo.

Just go to 'customise' and select 'Put "hide" link on Active Conversations? (hide selected threads from Talk), show thread options on mobile:'

Trans topic. Please.

Oh, and trans threads on MN changed my view too.

Bore that's not the options I get when I go to customise. Screenshot of what I get attached.

Trans topic. Please.

How odd! Maybe message MNHQ and ask them why you don't have the same options?

Am on ipad safari desktop site.

iPad. Safari. Desktop here too.

Maybe that's part of the issue? That it is easier for some people, with the option to hide at the side of threads without opening Them and with the options you get and then to a different experience using the site / hiding threads?

Does that make sense !

So for example those who have a hide at the side of the list in active don't see what the big issue is, because they just click a hide button and don't have to open the thread, whereas I don't have that option so I have to open the thread to hide it.

OP are you going to respond to whosright ?

I used to be like you too, thought of them as women etc. Reading a thread on here about Karen Parker opened my eyes.

Im not stopping anyone who wants to have the conversations having them. I just don't want to see them (and I will be hiding threads me not participating in future so I suppose a particular view point has won and meant that I will just not participate. )

ego - "It's impressive to see the familiar posters popping up on them - people certainly are dedicated to getting their message across on MN."

Like you, you mean Hmm

Or did you think nobody knew that it's you, always you, namechanged every few weeks.

I am sure some people on here recognise regular names on trans threads popping up with their usual comments.

So the OP tried to debate that pro TRA view, was scuppered by debate and now wants the debate hidden. Dummy spitting much?

Report
Universitychallenging · 23/03/2017 10:55

I'm not a TRA. People can debate whatever they like. I just don't want to see it.

And I'm still here on the thread. It's rude to talk about people as if they aren't here.

Mercy didn't say you are TRA. She said you (and I quote) "tried to debate that pro TRA view".

Report
MercyMyJewels · 23/03/2017 10:57

I didn't say you were. You need to read properly.

You are trying to fence off debate because you didn't win it. Dummy back in gob please

Universitychallenging · 23/03/2017 10:59

I am not a TRA. Nor do I hold TRA views.

You, however, are both rude.

Flinging insults around on trans threads is exactly why some people want a trans topic so they can hide it.

Report
MercyMyJewels · 23/03/2017 11:02

Hmm

You are very entitled to demand what you are demanding. Don't open the trans threads. It's really not difficult

Yes, and we also recognize the namechangers (well, you, really) who have been on every trans thread for years.

"Rude"? Hmm Because...?

Not every thread. There are loads and loads I haven't been on. Just look a FWR.

But don't let actual facts get in the way. Hmm

I don't want to see people placemarking and passing round popcorn in excitement at the latest update on a 20 page thread about a parking dispute. So I don't open the thread. Easy.

As it happens OP your 'transwomen are women' is offensive to some people who are transgender. There are quite a few transwomen about who don't believe they are women and feel that such statements are damaging and dismissive.

Yes Stitch
I don't open the following threads
MIL
Baby Names
Infant Feeding
Pregnancy
Birth
Conception
Parking Threads
Anything to do with Katie Hopkins or Piers Morgan
ProBrexit threads

When I do open a thread, I tend to have a quick scan of the OP and either read or close. Now and again I will waste 10 seconds opening and closing a thread that, it turns out, doesn't interest me.

I have already said (and backed it up with screenshots) that I can't hide a thread without opening it.

I'd like hq to either give me the functionality to do that (and that must be possible since others on the same platforms can do it)or give us as a pp suggested a filter option, or put all the threads in one place where I can hide a topic.

So (again) don't open the trans threads. And what happens when you inadvertently open a thread you didn't realise was trans. Does it jump out and SCREAM at you? Or can you just hit the hide button perhaps?
