Afternoon

As previously requested, we're very pleased to introduce a new tag function.

You will now be able to tag Mumsnetters by name on Talk threads - just type @ followed by their username, et voila! The MNer in question will get an email notification (unless they've turned the feature off). So to tag user LovelyMNer, you'd type @LovelyMNer, and so forth.

This is now available to all users on the Mumsnet site and in the Talk app. It's switched on by default, but if it's not for you, just turn it off by going to Customise Settings.

As usual, this is a beta version, so please do let us know what you think and how it works for you, and we'll feed all your thoughts back to our tech team.

Cheers and happy tagging,

MNHQ

Thank goodness for beta testing, that's all I can say.

*would use it if I could get a notification in site.

Threads I'm On

Threads I'm Tagged In.*

Yes this is a good suggestion
Or receiving a pm to your mumsnet pm inbox

I don't want to receive token emails, I like dipping into mumsnet when I have time, not feeling summoned back of course it's just an invitation, but still

BathshebaSnowflakeStone · 20/12/2016 05:44

Sorry Fids I was just seeing if it worked, and it had to be someone I knew. Xmas Blush

Fiderer · 20/12/2016 06:02
Angry

Wink I forgive you

Sparklingbrook · 20/12/2016 06:28

It will be a godsend for the 'dog with a bone' posters who hate being ignored and demand answers from their questions repeatedly.

Out of all the things we would like this is not even on the list.

MysticTwat · 20/12/2016 06:44

Any word on a timed edit button? that has actually been requested.

BertieBotts · 20/12/2016 07:00

Or fixing the jumping on the normal site... or the phantom jumping on the mobile site... or allowing advanced search to use operands...

DereksGotATail · 20/12/2016 07:10

@dereksgotatail

SoupDragon · 20/12/2016 07:11

...that has actually been requested.

This was actually requested too. I dont browse site stuff but even I saw it :o

MysticTwat · 20/12/2016 07:23

Well okay then........

But in comparison, the edit button question comes up year after year. probably before twitter @ was even invented

BertieBotts · 20/12/2016 07:30

Technically @tagging predates Twitter... but I know what you mean Grin

Yes I carefully counted all the numbers.

Don't pretend you're sad. You broke it Xmas Grin

Sparklingbrook · 20/12/2016 08:00

Well I hope the hide poster function is going to be next. That has been asked for a lot.

TheMortificadosDragon · 20/12/2016 08:18

Sounds like an annoying feature, which many will turn off or ignore, or appear to ignore if they dont check email (on a different device maybe, or the 'jeffrey' accounts) which will lead to taggers getting pissed off with people they've tagged.

If you really want an answer from someone then take the time to PM them fgs.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 20/12/2016 08:23

If you tag someone and they have turned off notifications can you tell? If not it's going to cause even more frustration than previously if they don't reply.

If I have asked a question and am worried I have missed a reply I open the whole thread in one window and use the search function in my browser to search on the first part of my name, it takes a few seconds and is very easy in either desktop or mobile view with the browsers I use. No need for tagging, but no idea if this can be done in the app.

On the other hand there are numerous threads where I post once or twice and either rapidly lose interest or want to walk away from a bunfight, I hide those threads and rarely ever go back. I don't want to be tagged in those.

NoSunNoMoon · 20/12/2016 08:41

I like this.

Thanks @RebeccaMumsnet

bibbitybobbityyhat · 20/12/2016 08:57

How is it "super easy" to tag though farawayfromhome?

You still have to scroll back to make sure you've got the username exactly right.

I could do that now to make sure I got yours correct but I cba so I'm hoping you see this between your meetings! Grin

Sparklingbrook · 20/12/2016 08:57

@Sparklingbrook

Just checking it works before I turn it off. Grin

MrsLornaClausMumsnet · 20/12/2016 09:40

Hi all,

Tech is looking into tagging usernames made up of numbers.

Thanks so much for flagging!

Twoevils · 20/12/2016 10:06

I suspect most of MNHQ will be turning theirs off before long eh @RebeccaMumsnet

Goingtobeawesome · 20/12/2016 10:09

Fiderer - it's not for TIO.....It's for threads where you have been mentioned.

RebeccaMumsnet · 20/12/2016 10:15

@Twoevils

I suspect most of MNHQ will be turning theirs off before long eh @RebeccaMumsnet

You rang?

As I said up thread, not all of us work full time, so as much as we will happily pop over and help out have a chat it's still best to report a post that needs immediate attention rather than @ mentions or PMs. @SandyMumsnet is on holiday for 2 weeks, for example Shock Xmas Grin
