New feature - @ mentions

Afternoon

As previously requested, we're very pleased to introduce a new tag function.

You will now be able to tag Mumsnetters by name on Talk threads - just type @ followed by their username, et voila! The MNer in question will get an email notification (unless they've turned the feature off). So to tag user LovelyMNer, you'd type @LovelyMNer, and so forth.

This is now available to all users on the Mumsnet site and in the Talk app. It's switched on by default, but if it's not for you, just turn it off by going to Customise Settings.

As usual, this is a beta version, so please do let us know what you think and how it works for you, and we'll feed all your thoughts back to our tech team.

I agree with whoever suggested Threads I'm Tagged On next to TIO and TIW - much better than this email malarkey.

And the fact that I can't be arsed to scroll back and find whoever that was to namecheck them shows the weakness in this system. Not only recalling usernames from some posts back, but also typing them in their entirety and then spelling them correctly. Yikes.

I've switched it off. I really don't want it. In any case I rarely check the email account I use for MN.

I have wracked my tiny brain but I cannot for the life of me figure out why anyone would want this feature. And it seems to have come out of nowhere. Meanwhile, no progress on the much requested hide poster feature?

Also why switch it on by default?

I really like this feature. For those asking why, well if I post, specifically asking a question I often miss responses...I use the app and am on the move a lot, so I can miss replies that could be useful.

Also I've had users have a go at me in the past for responding on a thread but NOT mentioning their names...usually this is (again) because I'm in the back of a taxi in between meetings and in a rush...this way is super easy to tag AND they know they've been referenced.
