New feature - @ mentions

Afternoon

As previously requested, we're very pleased to introduce a new tag function.

You will now be able to tag Mumsnetters by name on Talk threads - just type @ followed by their username, et voila! The MNer in question will get an email notification (unless they've turned the feature off). So to tag user LovelyMNer, you'd type @LovelyMNer, and so forth.

This is now available to all users on the Mumsnet site and in the Talk app. It's switched on by default, but if it's not for you, just turn it off by going to Customise Settings.

As usual, this is a beta version, so please do let us know what you think and how it works for you, and we'll feed all your thoughts back to our tech team.

Cheers and happy tagging,

MNHQ

I don't like that nesting thing
Where do we find this feature to turn off notifications?

PhilODox · 19/12/2016 13:43

And how will it work when people say "@soupy" instead of "@soupdragon"?

senua · 19/12/2016 13:45

Who does the e-mail come from? - MNmessaging services or does it tell the other party my log-in email (destroys the anonymity).

PinkiePiesCupcakes · 19/12/2016 13:46

@RebeccaMumsnet

Are you getting lots of emails and have now turned it off?

I expect all the posters who already bark @ people (invariably on AIBUs when they're arguing with you) will think all their Christmasses have come at once.

Thankfully I have a designated MN email account that I never even opened once I'd (re)joined so the emails will pass me by.

I shall continue to ignore anyone who @'s me like I always have.

I must have missed the thread when people were asking for this

Can anyone link it?

I would have said it seems a pretty pointless thing, as it not exactly encouraging people to read the threads

Pity, really.

PuppyMonkey · 19/12/2016 13:58

@AuntieStella - reading threads is very overrated imho Grin

about time, thanks

I must have missed the thread when people were asking for this

^This @RebeccaMumsnet

Also what about shortened names, it's make things more friendly on here, when you shorten a name like for auntieStella I'd just put stella. A pp said there's binary too which would be odd and Posters who know me will often call me twatty

I won't get any emails anyway, because it was a one off email account setup after Jeffery. I've no idea how to access it now.

I also read the thread rather then just look to see if people are in awe of my great wisdom and need to tell me.

WellErrr · 19/12/2016 14:29

As previously requested, we're very pleased to introduce a new tag function

WHO requested this? Who??

@RebeccaMumsnet can you name and shame them please so I can tag them? They need to hear my displeasure.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/12/2016 14:33

I did an actual out loud sigh. It was almost an exasperated one.

Then I remembered I don't have a live email connected to my MN account and resolved to tag trolls lots and lots Smile

WellErrr · 19/12/2016 14:36

Oooh yes Moving. Every cloud!

Seriously though - I spend a fair amount of time here; I regularly check into Site Stuff. And I've NEVER seen anyone request this travesty function.

MysticTwat · 19/12/2016 14:38

Oh moving what a good idea Grin

VintagePerfumista · 19/12/2016 14:41

Excellent idea Moving!

I have just done an advanced search and while I can find a zillion requests for a "like" button (all boo-hissed very quickly, thank fuck) and a few for a "quote" function, I can't find the "@" request.

Must have been in chat and has disappeared, I suppose.

WellErrr · 19/12/2016 14:47

It's like the social equivalent of cuffing someone on the back of the head and saying 'oi,' isn't it?

Tweasels · 19/12/2016 14:50

This will make me nervous. I like to be under the radar.

You haven't seen me...right.

UnbornMortificado · 19/12/2016 14:50

I don't like it.

Change is a bad thing. (Shudder)

ALemonyPea · 19/12/2016 14:56

Just marking my spot so I remember to disable this when I get home.

Somerville · 19/12/2016 15:10

I'll have to try it for a bit before I can decide.

Testing - @goingtobeawesome is this friendly or annoying? Grin
