What's with the milk advert that squishes everything to one side?

The site is starting to be incredibly intrusive advert wise at the moment. We had the pop ups that covered most of the screen and now we have a purple milk one that takes up the top and the side Shock

Give it time and I won't be able to read a thing on here bar ads!!

Me too. And as well as taking up a big hunk of my mobile screen it had the audacity to take up the WHOLE screen ON MY TV. Which I think takes the piss a bit!

Hi again, everyone.

Thanks for being patient while we've been chatting about this at MNHQ. To clarify, this is a trial - so it's not set in stone. We know that changes aren't always welcome, but we are listening to your feedback.

We understand capping isn't working for some of you, and the ad is appearing more than once a day. Our ads team have taken this to Google, and as far as they can see, everything is as it should be. In order for them to look into what's going on here, they need affected users to send two screenshots of the ad (within 24 hrs) with the time of day/date visible, along with a screenshot of your history. (Google need the exact time stamps so they can look into back-end reporting.) If you are happy to do this, please mail them to us at [email protected], and we can send it over.

Sorry but I think it's really shit that whenever something like this happens, it somehow always falls to us to sort it in the end.

Really, how hard is it to just leave things as they are. We don't want big fancy new adverts of ANY kind. Just stop fiddling!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 30/11/2016 16:28

Sorry that's far too much hassle. If you want that level of involvement you're going to need to put me on the payroll.

GinIsIn · 30/11/2016 16:47

Do we get gin if we do, please, KatherineMumsnet?

KatherineMumsnet · 30/11/2016 18:02

We know it's a faff, sorry - but without 'em, we can't fix it. Wine (close as we can get)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/11/2016 20:14

Hey MNHQ have you thought about introducing a paid for ads free version for thems that want it?

CurbsideProphet · 30/11/2016 22:16

I agree with Walrus and Moving. We're telling you that it's intrusive and we're not happy about it, but we're expected to take screenshots and email them to prove this? Fair enough you need to make money from advertising, but a large advert taking up 3/4 of a mobile screen is not on, regardless of how many times a day I see it.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 01/12/2016 04:38

I've just actually read it for the first time and frankly, it's bloody awful sexist crap!!!!

The message is that women with intolerances should be drinking A2 to avoid bloated tummies and the need for big knickers???? Would they use a message like that if they were aiming the advert at men?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 01/12/2016 07:56

Just to illustrate my point. This advert is pants in more ways than one.

Well you can have all the ad revenue in the world but given that a lot of people are stopping using the site because of them it will be a bit pointless
I get the need for adds but these are ridiculous

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 01/12/2016 09:02

I realised the screenshots I posted weren't that helpful so here's a smaller one to illustrate my point. I get that being bloated is bad but is this or is this not sexist claptrap?

MNHQ More and more of us are installing adblockers because of the constant, intrusive ads, as well as their effect on page-loading

You really have shot yourselves in the foot here.

chemenger · 01/12/2016 09:10

I would be happy to pay a (smallish) subscription for an ad-free mumsnet. Its that or ad-blocker. The more irritating the ads become the more people will use ad-blocker or just give up. on my PC I just resize the window to make the sidebars invisible.

celtiethree · 01/12/2016 10:47

I've tried to avoid installing an ad blocker as I recognise that's there needs to be some revenue stream. I've finally given in and installed one. The side advert being the final straw! I couldn't even tell you what was being advertised - it was so annoying I just shut the site down every time.

butterflymum · 01/12/2016 14:08

Directed to here from other thread I'd started (hadn't seen this one).

Anyhow, I too am getting the ads multiple times, plus on three sides of tablet (top, left and right).

ophiotaurus · 01/12/2016 14:40

They aren't going to listen to us. We are going to end up with ads throughout the threads at this rate.

ophiotaurus · 01/12/2016 14:41

I'm getting an ad blocker too. So sick of this.

AgentProvocateur · 01/12/2016 14:49

Can someone please give me simple idiot-proof instructions on how to install an ad blocker, please? I'm on an iphone, if that helps. Thanks.

ophiotaurus · 01/12/2016 15:02

Done!

AgentProvocateur just go to the App Store, search for Adblock Plus and download the app

AgentProvocateur · 01/12/2016 17:01

Thanks, Bore (love your username!)

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/12/2016 17:02

Oo! Thanks Blush

MegBusset · 02/12/2016 14:01

Just adding my voice to these, I have had several on my laptop (using Chrome) and it makes the site way too annoying to use.
