Update to webchat guest colours

JessicaMumsnet · 05/10/2016 09:18

Hi,
This is a heads up that we're soon to introduce a change to the colours used to highlight posts on desktop and mobile.

If you've been around long enough to have the old style customised colours this won't affect you.

For newer users - we needed to add some new web chat guest colours and retire the awful mustard yellow we used in the past on desktop webchats. As a result of that we then needed to update our other colours too.

Thanks all

Jessica, I'm on IE with a PC.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/10/2016 10:48

YY, BESusan, I agree.
BUt there was REALLY no need to change the forest green, was there. You're being far too nice calling it apricot, btw...

Jellybean83 · 25/10/2016 10:48

The colours are much better now, I can stop doubting myself whether it's pale pale pink of white when reading an op. Thank goodness!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/10/2016 10:49

Noodles - Customise is in the down-arrow menu next to Talk at the top of the page now.

ScandiManny · 25/10/2016 10:51

Much better, thanks!

Hastalapasta · 25/10/2016 10:52

My lovely forest green just changed to peach! Not a happy bunny, my old eyes are not coping well. Please switch it back Smile

Hastalapasta · 25/10/2016 10:53

Ooh, but my posts are still have a purple background!

JessicaMumsnet · 25/10/2016 11:02

@BoreOfWhabylon

Just been in to 'customise' - can still change the colours but although the names of the colours are still the same they now look completely different! eg silver looks salmon pink.

Thanks BoreOfWhabylon we've flagged that to tech and they going to get into now

Thank you ThumbWitch!

oldsilver · 25/10/2016 11:09

Testing testing ...

oldsilver · 25/10/2016 11:13

I thought I had customised colours? Ops are now green but I appear to be a dusky pink. Originally it was grey for Op and purple for me. The colour contrast is better though. On Samsung it isn't flourescent.

WorraLiberty · 25/10/2016 11:23

I'm on desktop, using Firefox.

My posts used to be dark pink and the OP's a sort of darkish grey.

The OP's are now a salmon pink and hard to tell apart from my own Confused

TheySayIamparanoid · 25/10/2016 11:25

I have just gone onto the desktop site on my tablet to try and customise the colours back but I can't!

I am finding the green colour difficult to read, it's too dark and giving me a headache!

Please can you just let us customise colours again?
I usually read mn in bed before I go to sleep, but as I get tired my eyes don't see colours as brightly so I've no chance of being able to read mn tonight if it stays like this!

Please please please just give us the option to customise back!

WorraLiberty · 25/10/2016 11:27

And I'm scared to go into customise in case I balls it up and can't change back.

MistressMolecules · 25/10/2016 11:45

It is awful, I use dark colours that show through my overlays the salmon pink doesn't show through so I can't differentiate between the OP and the rest of the posts , I had the old style and it has gone. I can't find settings either to change it. I can't use the site like this, it makes it hard.

akkakk · 25/10/2016 11:51

not sure what you have done - but mine were customised - only use desktop - no changes in the last few weeks, but this morning the OP post has gone a ghastly shade of pink - horrible...

how do I go back to being able to customise?

can't see any technical reason why this functionality had to be removed... surely if there was already an over-ride in place for those who had customised it, that should remain? then your changes would make no difference...

really unpleasant to use

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/10/2016 11:56

To find 'customise' click the down arrow next to 'Talk' at the top left of page. Not everyone has a customise option, only those who already had it before one of the earlier Great Improvements.

As I said earlier, my customise options are still there and the colours have the same names but the actual, colours themselves have now changed beyond all recognition

PoldarksBreeches · 25/10/2016 12:06

Test

SpookyPotato · 25/10/2016 12:06

My posts are a weird pink! Iphone..

PoldarksBreeches · 25/10/2016 12:07

Yes they are darker. Thanks!

akkakk · 25/10/2016 12:10

thank you BoreOfWhabylon I didn't remember the customisation being there (thought / assumed it might be under account settings!)

seems then that I am suffering the same issue as you - quite on what planet anyone thinks silver = ghastly pink I am not sure Grin hopefully they will sort it out!

perhaps the techs could give us hex codes? Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/10/2016 12:18

I also blundered around in Account Settings at first akkakk Grin

Memoires · 25/10/2016 12:21

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

My posts are the most vile apricot pink yeuch thing which looks like sick.

I have been around long enough to have the old customised colours and am supposed to be unaffected. I have not been near my customisation pages to ensure I am not affected by these horrible horrible changes.

WHY? YOU PROMISED.

Memoires · 25/10/2016 12:24

That is a colour reviled universally in this house. And you've made it ME.

STOP IT.

strawberrypenguin · 25/10/2016 12:26

I seem to have lost the ability to customise my colours. I definitely had custom ones before :(
