Update to webchat guest colours

Hi,
This is a heads up that we're soon to introduce a change to the colours used to highlight posts on desktop and mobile.

If you've been around long enough to have the old style customised colours this won't affect you.

For newer users - we needed to add some new web chat guest colours and retire the awful mustard yellow we used in the past on desktop webchats. As a result of that we then needed to update our other colours too.

Thanks all

And my post are green Envy that makes me itch

MunchMunch · 12/10/2016 18:14

My custom colours were OP - grey, Me - pinky purple and MN - blue (see photo)...

I've had to go on the desktop site on my phone to get my old colours but I prefer the mobile site and now have a very pale pink and pale yellow.

MunchMunch · 12/10/2016 18:15

Sorry, my posts are showing up green, slightly darker but still pale

elQuintoConyo · 12/10/2016 18:50

Flaccid

Too. Damn. Flaccid!

Goingtobeawesome · 12/10/2016 18:55

It's like months ago when the font size was changed for no good reason. I could only manage a few minutes at a time and has headaches often. Thanks for my headache.

emotionsecho · 12/10/2016 19:55

My desktop site colours are as per my individual customisation and they used to automatically carry over to the Mobile Site.

The Mobile Site is now a washed out mess which makes it hard to read.

Why on earth was this change deemed necessary, if you have to do this MNHQ do you not think you owe your users the courtesy of telling them why it has to be done?

Surely you can change the Web Chat colours without this wholesale, unwanted and unwarranted change to every other colour on the site?

DH is a developer. He rather sniffily says this is a five minute fix if the website has been built properly.

Yup, just need to go in and change the colours once, in one place.

if the website has been built properly.

And therein lies the problem...

FoxesOnSocks · 12/10/2016 20:45

I'm so confused. What colours are people seeing.

Mine are different to before (green now) - though I confess I'm not entirely sure what colour OPs where previously; in fact I don't think it has changed AND I don't think it's paler.

What's going on?!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/10/2016 20:48

Are you on the desktop site?

FoxesOnSocks · 12/10/2016 20:54

Mobile site.

StarsandSparkles · 12/10/2016 21:06

Im on the mobile site on an android phone and my colours before were: op as a forest green, mnhq as a darkish blue and my posts were purple

ophiotaurus · 12/10/2016 22:33

Seriously?!
Who chose pink? It's hideous. Very difficult to see when scrolling through posts. I've been here for 7 years and have custom colours. Why has this been changed?

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 12/10/2016 22:37

Have to say the pale pink OP post colour is bloody awful!

You can't easily see it and I do slightly object to pink for the girls! And I can't imagine it is easy at all for posters with sight problems!

And finally, why on earth didn't you test the colours first. You've got the perfect focus group from whom you will get both quant and qualitative feedback . Why on earth just launch it!

I have no idea what that middle bar says, white on light grey does not work

Could someone please enlighten us, instead of ignoring, thank you.

OokSaidTheLibrarian · 13/10/2016 06:50

, I had grey for OP and a kind of mauve on mobile site, and was pretty sure I had chosen custom colours. I am disappointed that MN don't appear to have tested this change at all.. The new colours are really hard to see, and MN tech team don't even seem to know how their site functionality works, as we are initially told that if we had customised colours we would not be affected.

Nobrain · 13/10/2016 07:13

Mnhq why are you not coming back? For android mobile users your site is near enough unusable! I'm having to use chromes find to find op posts!

BeBesideTheSea · 13/10/2016 11:38

Still too pale.

Here's an idea - you know you have a tester panel for washing machines, dogfood, nappies etc? Why not use them to test any changes to the site. Before you make them.

Instead of trying to replicate what users might see on different devices, why not y'know actually ask some users.

It is called "usability testing" if Tech wants to look it up, and has been all the rage for a while now.

KatherineMumsnet · 13/10/2016 11:51

Hi all,

Many apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

We have heard you loud and clear and we will be testing some darker colours, hopefully even as soon as today (though no promises). We will let you know once they are released, as we will need your feedback.

Thanks Flowers

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/10/2016 12:23

YAY! Thank you for the info KatherineMumsNet. 😄

Mummylin · 13/10/2016 12:46

Can we just go back to picking our own choice of colours ? Please. If everyone can make their own choices we should all be happy Especially the posters who don't see certain shades and colours too well. They should have a choice of what suits them best.
