Update to webchat guest colours

JessicaMumsnet · 05/10/2016 09:18

Hi,
This is a heads up that we're soon to introduce a change to the colours used to highlight posts on desktop and mobile.

If you've been around long enough to have the old style customised colours this won't affect you.

For newer users - we needed to add some new web chat guest colours and retire the awful mustard yellow we used in the past on desktop webchats. As a result of that we then needed to update our other colours too.

Thanks all

Fucking baby dust. God no!

EnidButton · 12/10/2016 01:58

Faith That's what I have as part of my 'main' chronic illness (if that makes sense). I didn't realise it had a proper separate name. Good to know so thank you for mentioning it. Sorry you have to deal with it, it's hard work. Flowers

TheJiminyConjecture · 12/10/2016 02:01

Another one who had custom colours that have changed now.

Grey for op
Lavender for me
Blue for MNHQ

EnidButton · 12/10/2016 02:09

The new colours are very hard on me. I have issues with severe headaches and vision, as a result of a chronic illness. Not only is it hard to distinguish between the coloured posts and the white background posts, it also makes me have to concentrate so hard on the coloured posts that I feel a bit car sick

This!! Just reading back through this thread and posting on another has made me feel queasy and my head hurt. I'll have to leave it for tonight. There are lots of people on MN who experience the same problem and similar. It's not just being fussy or stuck in our ways, not being able to customise the colours and the insipid pastel shades are an accessibility issue for a lot of posters.

EnidButton · 12/10/2016 02:43

Popped back on to add that even for those with no vision problems I imagine the colours or lack of them are very hard going on the eyes. Didn't want it to sound like I meant those without visual processing issues or dyslexia etc were being fussy. That's not it at all.

MooseyMouse · 12/10/2016 04:05

Yes please to darker colours.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/10/2016 06:09

It's a shame, isn't it Enid?
If it carries on, I'm going to have to bow out gracefully 🙄

OnionKnight · 12/10/2016 06:47

The pale colours are horrific, I can barely see them.

OnionKnight · 12/10/2016 06:48

Eurgh, even the colour that highlights my post is awful, why change it in the first place?!

PoldarksBreeches · 12/10/2016 06:49

Is this just because they wanted to change the webchat colours? How unnecessary

youarenotkiddingme · 12/10/2016 07:17

I use iPad but believe it's desktop site because I logged in through safari.

I had my colours customised.

They have changed.

I'm not particularly arsed about which colours I am but realise that's my issue! but would really appreciate the colours being darker.
I have dyslexia and need clear colour difference on a page of printed text to be able to distinguish it.

PrettyBlueDressForTheXmasBall · 12/10/2016 07:59

Mumsnet better fix these awful colours soon or I'll have to defect to net mums, as even huns, lol, lolz, baby dust and other such crap is better than these insipid eye hurting colours. 😢😡

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 12/10/2016 09:54

Think that may be taking it a bit far, prettyblue Grin

I won't be using mumsnet half as much now as the colours are making it really difficult for me, I suppose the plus is that the cupboard under the stairs will be tidy and the children fed but seriously please change them back.

PrettyBlueDressForTheXmasBall · 12/10/2016 12:07

poppy but huns, lol, lolz and baby dust just make me cringe, these insipid coloursare actually hurting my eyes.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/10/2016 13:03

Are the colours definitely staying JessicaMumsnet ?

Lweji · 12/10/2016 13:26

Different colours on pcs and mobile devices are very annoying and confusing. Why can't we have the same?

Didijustgetwinkpointshitcanned · 12/10/2016 13:26

I think they are ignoring us :( how rude

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 12/10/2016 13:46

Like a PP said - I was very confused about a thread I was reading earlier, thinking the OP was a sock puppet.

BRING BACK MY DARK COLOURS, please

Powaqa · 12/10/2016 13:54

I'm on a desktop.

OP is still Green. I will know if I am still grey when I have posted

Meanwhile I cannot tell Mumsnet posts apart from anyone elses

Powaqa · 12/10/2016 13:54

Yup - - I'm still grey

Aderyn2016 · 12/10/2016 14:12

OP is pink for me. Yesterday my posts were yellow(ish) now they are light grey.

Aderyn2016 · 12/10/2016 14:21

Might even be green. Can't bloody tell.
If anyone at MN cares, I like proper dark colours. You can choose what they are Wink but they have to be distinct, solid colours!

TheSpottedZebra · 12/10/2016 16:30

It really really is hard to read. And I luckily have no VIs. Is it really worth making the 99% of posts harder to read, just to wham in a few more guest post colours?

As well as getting the OP and own post colours brighter, the very very pale grey with white text (that is the link to other primoted threads?) is stupidly hard to read. Whoever dreamt that one up should be put on the naughty step.

Nobrain · 12/10/2016 16:41

When will users getc the darker colors back? The mobile site is impossible to use and there's no app for android 😢

TheWitchwithNoName · 12/10/2016 18:09

I had customised colours and they have changed. Im pretty much allergic to pink - please at least change the OP colour to silver or lavender 😐
