Update to webchat guest colours

JessicaMumsnet · 05/10/2016 09:18

Hi,
This is a heads up that we're soon to introduce a change to the colours used to highlight posts on desktop and mobile.

If you've been around long enough to have the old style customised colours this won't affect you.

For newer users - we needed to add some new web chat guest colours and retire the awful mustard yellow we used in the past on desktop webchats. As a result of that we then needed to update our other colours too.

Thanks all

Even the ad bar that sits between some posts has been washed out! Its light grey with white writing and its hurt my eyes too much to actually read what it says!!! Mumsnet instead of being my relaxation you've really annoyed me tonight Angry and hurt eyes!

HawkeyeInConfusion · 11/10/2016 20:52

I'm just posting to see what colour my posts now show up as.

I'm on the mobile site, and I'm another who had grey for the OP, purple for my posts and blue for mnhq (and no green anywhere). And I don't like the new colours I have seen so far.

Costacoffeeplease · 11/10/2016 20:52

Just go back to how it was, although you can keep the ads as they are, they're less distracting Smile

Callmecordelia · 11/10/2016 20:57

OMG, this is awful. I'm also sure I had customised colours on the mobile site - grey for OP, pink for me. No green anywhere.

PrettyBlueDressForTheXmasBall · 11/10/2016 21:01

Grin just shows how ridiculous this whole change is when they make their own ads unreadable!

OvO · 11/10/2016 21:06

Mine haven't changed thank fuck.

Forest green OP
Blue MNHQ
Lavender for me

Perfect.

But now I'll never be able to log out or fiddle about in customise for fear of the new colours. Shock

They're horrendous. Look so pastel-y and like a mums and babies website. . We're so much more than that. Those colours will make people start using hubby and lol and goddamn babydancing.

PortiaCastis · 11/10/2016 21:14

Suggest tech guy gets onto this asap before everyone defects to huns and lolz.
Unreadable ads are not good business practice, if we can't read the ads who's going to buy space? Word travels quickly on tinternet. One tweet is all it takes, not that I'd tweet on twatter of course.

PrettyBlueDressForTheXmasBall · 11/10/2016 21:16

or even make them go to net mums Shock

TrashPanda · 11/10/2016 21:37

I'm another one who isn't really fussed what colours are used for what posts as long as they are darker and visible when scrolling through a thread looking for OP posts. We have enough people who don't read all OP posts before commenting, it will be worse if you can't easily tell which posts the OP has written.

strawberrypenguin · 11/10/2016 21:39

I agree with everyone else. I don't really care what colours you pick (although I did like my ones) just get rid of the awful pastel shades

Catzpyjamas · 11/10/2016 21:41

OvO, are you on mobile or desktop? Envy at your colours.

SouthernComforts · 11/10/2016 21:55

Just to add to the chorus.. I had dark grey OP, purple for me and blue for MNHQ.

Pleasee make them darker again Sad

Mummylin · 11/10/2016 22:43

Can we please have the option back to customise our own colours so everyone can choose the best colour that suits their eyesight. We are not all one size fits all. This must be so difficult for everyone who has Sight problems.

startingtheengine · 11/10/2016 22:48

Darker colours please. Trying to read in the dark is now no longer possible as I can't see who's who! Angry

FaithAscending · 11/10/2016 22:54

Another one who had custom colours - lavender for my posts, green for OP and blue for MNHQ - who has had a colour change.

I have a condition called meares-irlen which means that mean reading writing on pale background is extremely difficult. I'm really struggling with this :(

BakeOffBiscuits · 11/10/2016 22:55

I'm just baffled as to why the colours had to change when you only wanted to change the web chat colours.
Is there a technical reason for this? If so it would be nice to hear that rather than keeping us mistified as to the change.

It doesn't make any sense!

BakeOffBiscuits · 11/10/2016 22:56

And the colours are insipid!

MsMarvel · 11/10/2016 23:03

New colours have given me a headache. Far to pale to differentiate easily, which is surely the point of having different colours in the first place.

adds voice to millions of other unhappy mners

^^ This. Please, MNHQ.

Catzpyjamas · 11/10/2016 23:14

Has anyone else had the mobile site crash on them since this update?
MNHQ, the site has crashed on me 5 times today. I'm on Silk Browser on a Kindle Fire.

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 11/10/2016 23:26

Still hating them

I'm now on night time mode on my phone and can't see the difference at all

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 11/10/2016 23:29

Those colours will make people start using hubby and lol and goddamn babydancing.

And the horrific HUN, baby dust and hubby

💞💞💞please revert the colours MNHQ💖💖💖

I'm glad it's not just me, I find these new colours less user friendly, I don't mind which colours are which but they need to be darker

MaddyHatter · 11/10/2016 23:43

gah, i've always had OPs in green, and me in grey.

ITs all gone a horrible incipid pale nothingness that i can barely make out..

I'm on desktop.

Give me my colours back!
