App randomly shutting down.

It's been going on for a few weeks now, at first I thought it was because my phone (iPhone 5s) needed an update but I have since updated and it's still happening. Very annoying when I'm reading a thread and then it literally vanishes into thin air. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough for it to be an annoyance. The app opens up fine afterwards.

Just thought I'd let you guys know just in case there's an issue with the app.

This is fucking infuriating.
It's making me not want to bother coming on here.
I can't ever re-find what I was reading as don't know what topic the thread was in so am just reading half of zillion threads and getting high blood pressure.
It's seriously fucking me off.

Hey guys, we've just released v3.4 of the iOS Talk App, which includes these updates:

  • A new search feature, so you can search the entire Talk forum from the app. This is brand new technology, so we're expecting to need to tweak the way it works to improve the experience. Let us know if there are any issues or general feedback!
  • A load of bug fixes. I've been tracking over a dozen different bugs, and fixed some of the main offenders. Again - let me know if it's still crashing!

Now I'm done with search, my attention is fully focussed on fixing any additional iOS 10 bugs and analysing the battery usage of Mumsnet Talk.

Thanks Tim. Unfortunately, it just crashed again when I opened this thread again to post. (Post update.) Where is the new search function by the way?

Ah - found it. That search function magnifying glass started off by just repeating the three horizontal bars' tab so it seems to need a short while to settle down. Smile

Hmm, that is weird, ok thanks I'll look for different crashes. It's taking longer than usual because it's been impossible to recreate on our side. Should still be possible to fix though.

See how it does. The search function seemed not to work right away so maybe it needs some time to 'permeate'. (I have no idea why it should but there you go.)

I'm afraid it's crashed twice for me this evening. I'll try to log them properly and to remember if there's some kind of pattern - if Tech aren't seeing them. At the moment there doesn't seem to be a pattern though. Sad

I'm using the new release on iOS 10 on an iPad.

It's closed within five minutes of me opening the app.

We've zeroed in on 80% of the crashes - they're caused by dodgy code in the adverts, Google have recently released a fix, and if everything goes to plan we'll have it submitted to Apple today.

We've released an updated build that we're hoping will fix the frequent crash in threads. I'm monitoring the crash reports - so I'll be able to see if it doesn't work soon...

Still happening. Also, a thread in threads I am on just doesn't load and is permanently trying to. Maybe it has been deleted (thread about 14 year old daughter and having boyfriend over) but it hasn't deleted from threads I am on. However, when I tried to add it to my watch list, it wouldn't do it.

Also, weirdly, all the contractions in the above paragraph (doesn't etc) come out red underlined until I click them. Is that my iPad ( but doesn't do it in other apps) or Mumsnet?

I don't know, Clay. It's not an easy site to build an app for - the length of time that people might have it open, for example, compared to some other sites where you can pretty well guarantee a max of - say - 15 minutes use. (And I don't think there are any timeouts here.) Having said which, I was on for, I think, less than a minute when I had my first crash today. Sad
