I Would Like To Propose A Solution To The Trans Threads Problem

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/08/2016 22:08

Dear MNHQ, I am pissed off with all the Trans threads. I understand that you don't wish to stifle debate/free speech and all that shit, so I propose 4 threads where all trans posts can be hidden go.

A Fuck Trans thread. For posters who hate that people are trans.
A Yay Trans thread. For posters who wish to support trans people.
A Trans Bunfight Club thread. For posters on the other two threads who want to have a bit of a ruck.
And a What MNHQ Have To Say About Trans Threads thread. For, well I think you get my drift.

All other trans posts on the site can be deleted, no other threads can be started and I can enjoy the site more.

But you know what, we don't have to justify talking about what we see as an important issue facing women which isn't getting much airspace anywhere else, to you or anyone else

No, you don't. I'm just surprised at what is not being discussed on Chat or AIBU at the moment.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:30

And did you have a look at feminism chat?

leccybill · 01/09/2016 09:32

Can someone sum up what exactly is the 'trans' issue? I'm unclear.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:33

And did you have a look at feminism chat

I look in there occasionally but don't post. But as people have said, Mumsnet is a place to discuss issues affecting women. Trans issues affect women - in a sense, feminism chat is a place to discuss issues affecting women.

Why not put trans issue there?
If that's the main place to discuss issues affecting women, then they could go there?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:35

we will put it where we think it fits. Usually on MN HQ will move a thread if they think it's best elsewhere.

hazeyjane · 01/09/2016 09:36

That should be heebie jeebies, maybe I should start a thread on why my phone insists on changing arsehole to hawsehole and heebie to newbie.

Sorry that I don't seem to have posted on threads that you deem important enough, ego, although I have spoken to you on threads about disability.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:37

Sorry, you said mumsnet is for issues affecting women so issues affecting when should go in feminism? Don't understand.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 09:37

Some Transwomen and their supports feel that they have a right to invade wonens spaces. Be that toilets or rape support. They feel that the statement i feel like a women should be enough for an access all areas pass. It is most concerning regarding those thranswomen who still have a penis.
They also believe that women who talk about or support womens only issues such a pmt, breast feeding and childbirth are excluding them and should be called transphobic.
This is not a detailed response but sums it up for me.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:38

we will put it where we think it fits

Some people want a trans thread - just as people wanted a Brexit topic. Why are they wrong to want that? You could have all the discussions kept in one place for posterity, no expiring of threads as in Chat, the same discussions could be referred to.

I would have thought you'd have jumped at that chance

hazeyjane · 01/09/2016 09:40

Personally, I think it is better to have a mashup of stuff on the main boards - I hate the whole, 'ooh, you special needs lot can go over there, topics affecting women, better pop off to feminism, dearie.....oh dear look at this dog thread, off you trot to dogsnet, or whatever other bollockoid topic has been thrown up this week. Right that just leaves chat and AIBU....throw in the pugil sticks and let's rumble'

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:41

Well, I don't think we are jumping at the chance: I think the people jumping at it are the people who want less talk about trans.

hazeyjane · 01/09/2016 09:42

Sorry got a bit ranty there.....also, surely trans issues affects - women, men, children's health, men's health, women's health, mental health, feminism, education....(and probably some other areas)

Sparklingbrook · 01/09/2016 09:42

I like The Litter Tray topic. The cat hating loons don't invade it. You can talk about all things cat in peace. Smile

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:43

And I'm sorry to disappoint you, but we're going to keep talking about it. People can come on and say how sadly predictable it is, if they like, though that seems counterproductive to me.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:45

And I'm sorry to disappoint you, but we're going to keep talking about it

I'm sure you are. That much is predictable.

almondpudding · 01/09/2016 09:45

Giving a topic its own section does not mean all threads related to it should be moved there.

People start threads about feminism on MN in chat and AIBU all the time, and they do not get moved to the feminist section.

Not all posters regularly use the feminist section. HazeyJane (my favourite MN poster, as it happens) is generally not on the feminist section, but posters like her still want to contribute to a variety of threads.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:46

As are you, frankly.

MaudGonneMad · 01/09/2016 09:47

Given that MN seems to be one of the very rare spaces where women can voice their concerns about transactivism and its impact on women's rights, shunting all these threads off into a Trans Topic would smack to me of ghettoisation and would carry more than a hint of silencing.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 01/09/2016 10:01

I agree with maud

And even if its not true....doing such a topic now is going to make it SEEM like its true

RepentAtLeisure · 01/09/2016 10:01

It is such a huge topic these days that it should have its own sub-board. I think MNHQ may be worried about the backlash if they appear to be sidelining trans issues though...

AbbeyBartlet · 01/09/2016 10:01

Why is it ghettoisation. I don't give a shiny shite if someone wants to call themselves whatever they want, and there are a lot of people on here who feel the same.

MN goes out of its way to be tolerant and leftie leaning to most issues except trans. And that's fine, but if you put it in a separate topic, then people who don't give a shit can hide it. I'm sure it won't stop 'people's eyes being opened to the issues' as it will come up on active unless they have hidden it.

AbbeyBartlet · 01/09/2016 10:02

And feminism has its own boards so why is that any different? In theory feminism affects all women apparently - is that not sidelining the issue?

venusinscorpio · 01/09/2016 10:04

Yes of course feminism affects all women. Are you an MRA, or just spectacularly obtuse?

leccybill · 01/09/2016 10:06

IzzyisBusy Thanks for the explanation.

I don't know anybody who is trans and it doesn't come up in my real life in any way, nor is it in any of the media I read, so I have very limited understanding of the issue.

almondpudding · 01/09/2016 10:09

The feminist board was not set up with the intention of solving a problem of feminist threads appearing on MN.

It is not seen as a problem that feminist threads appear elsewhere.
