I Would Like To Propose A Solution To The Trans Threads Problem

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/08/2016 22:08

Dear MNHQ, I am pissed off with all the Trans threads. I understand that you don't wish to stifle debate/free speech and all that shit, so I propose 4 threads where all trans posts can be hidden go.

A Fuck Trans thread. For posters who hate that people are trans.
A Yay Trans thread. For posters who wish to support trans people.
A Trans Bunfight Club thread. For posters on the other two threads who want to have a bit of a ruck.
And a What MNHQ Have To Say About Trans Threads thread. For, well I think you get my drift.

All other trans posts on the site can be deleted, no other threads can be started and I can enjoy the site more.

Depends how you use MN. Some posters want an escape from the important issues of RL and don't really want a heated debate particularly.

But 'lighthearted' seems frowned upon lately.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:10

Maybe what we need is a topic that's just for inane stuff, so nobody has to waste a moment looking at a thread and deciding it's not for them?

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:10

Don't tell us what women's issues we should be discussing, please, Ego

Well, that was predictable.

I am just surprised that certain issues that are in the news haven't been discussed.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 09:10

Don't tell us what women's issues we should be discussing, please, Ego

Whoa calm down. I dont think thats whay Ego was suggesting. It was just another topic that affects women. Ego was not dictating just using it as an example.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:10

As predictable as you dismissing everything anyone says as sadly predictable!

LineyReborn · 01/09/2016 09:11

Linda McCartney was a very talented musician, Dione. It's just that Macca liked to obscure her and make her seem all 'helpmeet'.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:11

Discuss them then, if you're interested. Meanwhile many of us will discuss all the many things we are interested in. Which is what mumsnet is for.

AlpacaLypse · 01/09/2016 09:12

I am not remotely interested in about 90% of threads, and frequently find that a thread is boring after I clicked on it. Hey ho, I just go back to Active and look for another one.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 01/09/2016 09:12

I'm pissed off with all the threads about weddings at the moment. They're everywhere. And MIL threads. Sometimes we get a double whammy crazy MIL wedding thread.

And there actually is a wedding topic but I bet I could go on the first page of AIBU right now and find at least a few.

I don't listen to the Archers, or watch X Factor or any soaps anymore. I don't have teenagers and I'm not pregnant or TTC.

The other week there were 3 or 4 threads bashing AP mums parents and 2 of those were in FWR.

And ironically, there's a thread just like this seemingly every other week.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:12

The trans threads have generated 1000s of posts.

Gender pay gap post birth - discussed on BBC, the media loads.

Just saying..

QueenOfAllBiscuitsandMuffins · 01/09/2016 09:13

"Maybe we could have an area for important issues affecting women - so people could discuss them. Wouldn't just need to be about trans issues."

What a GREAT idea, maybe we can label them something like
Feminism chat
Feminist activism

Feminist book clubs

Feminist support

Feminist theory

From which I deduce that posters were interested in posting on the trans threads. Did you start a thread in gender pay gap that didn't garner much response or something?

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:15

Not my place to start a thread on that.

From which I deduce that posters were interested in posting on the trans threads

True.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:15

It is because 'BBC, media etc' are not engaging in any critical evaluation of the trans phenomenon that people welcome and need the opportunity to do so here!

Sparklingbrook · 01/09/2016 09:16

Yes the wedding ones could do with being lumped together somewhere that's true. And MIL discussions.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:16

If it's not your place to start a thread on it, why are you telling us we should have?

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:17

Maybe it's because it might well be an issue that affects working mums - and of all the places out there, Mumsnet might be a place to see such a discussion as it is a real issue affecting working parents?

thedogstinks · 01/09/2016 09:18

Plenty of us would like to (and do) discuss these issues on news websites.

Oddly enough, gender critical comments are deleted.

MN are trigger happy enough when it comes to deletions on Trans threads, but they don't have a patch on the guardian.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:21

Exactly what thedog said.

While gender pay gap is a problem, there isn't the kind of refusal to admit that it's a problem as there is with trans. That's partly why the latter gets people posting more, though not necessarily caring more.

Are there any other issues you think we would be better posting about, while you're at it?

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:21

queen

5 replies on FWR and that's it...Hmm

Trans threads on site stuff - 4000 replies..

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 09:22

There's loads at the moment in the press - all real issues affecting women in their daily lives.

But fuck all on here.

hazeyjane · 01/09/2016 09:24

Ego, I have been here for 10 years and have enjoyed talking about many things that have affected my life.....health, politics, childbirth, breastfeeding, formula feeding, having children, having a disabled child, Marvel mini series, making the perfect sandwich and why Gareth Malone gives me the newbie jeebies, but a few weeks ago I just hit a wall with mumsnet, and an abrasiveness of attitude that either is me being oversensitive or mumsnet getting arse-ier - either way, I thought I would leave, but the Spartacus thread seemed too important, and so I have stuck around for that.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 01/09/2016 09:27

Bollocks. Have a quick look at the first page of feminism chat. Some trans-related, much not. But you know what, we don't have to justify talking about what we see as an important issue facing women which isn't getting much airspace anywhere else, to you or anyone else.
