I Would Like To Propose A Solution To The Trans Threads Problem

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/08/2016 22:08

Dear MNHQ, I am pissed off with all the Trans threads. I understand that you don't wish to stifle debate/free speech and all that shit, so I propose 4 threads where all trans posts can be hidden go.

A Fuck Trans thread. For posters who hate that people are trans.
A Yay Trans thread. For posters who wish to support trans people.
A Trans Bunfight Club thread. For posters on the other two threads who want to have a bit of a ruck.
And a What MNHQ Have To Say About Trans Threads thread. For, well I think you get my drift.

All other trans posts on the site can be deleted, no other threads can be started and I can enjoy the site more.

Yes, usual has already made it clear where she stands. So by her own logic, she should just shut up about it now that she's said it once and not "go on and on and on" or try to "shout the loudest" or "lecture" people who "dare to disagree" with her.

Or maybe that only applies if the thing you have an opinion on is the legal redefinition of "woman" and all the implications of that for the rights of women and girls. As opposed to the incredibly important issue of people on mumsnet actually discussing things that you're not interested in Sad Sad Sad

CoteDAzur · 01/09/2016 17:36

"There is no bloody debate. It's just shouting down of anyone who doesn't think the same as you. Your post proves my point."

You think I've been shouting?

Am I shouting now? Confused

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 17:39

I think usual meant that for me.
Although i was not aware i was shouting. I always understood THIS TO BE SHOUTING when on forums. Don't think i have used caps in my posts in a shouty way any road Confused

Why would there be agreement?

Every trans thread I've seen posters come on and say they've found stuff out from reading the threads.

That's why they keep on happening. There are new posters coming on all the time.

almondpudding · 01/09/2016 18:00

People who agree to disagree simply don't come on the threads, surely?

Agreement, no. It's not likely because one side is talking about biology textbooks & dictionaries, and the other is talking about feelings and puzzling dogma such as "That is a 'female penis' - because it's owner says so". It's like the faithful quoting Bible vs atheists quoting science books on Big Bang & Evolution. There is no middle ground because the pints of reference are irreconcilable.

Raising awareness, absolutely yes. As the recent Spartacus thread has shown.

7Days · 01/09/2016 18:12

Agreeing to disagree is all very well in a debate, but how does that work in the RL?
There are a lot of people from all across the spectrum of opinion for whom this is real and personal. So there needs to be a solution, it's not going to get boring for them

almondpudding · 01/09/2016 18:43

There are huge numbers of things I agree to disagree on. I don't need everyone who still wants to discuss it to not do so or have their own section. I don't just don't read those threads.

Awomen

Brilliant.

(God will strike me down now)

MorrisZapp · 01/09/2016 20:51

'dare to disagree'

The three worst words in online debate.

The five worst words are

'daring to have an opinion'.

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/09/2016 20:52

For those who don't want a Trans Topic, why not?

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 01/09/2016 20:53

And the OP has misunderstood the recent debate if she thinks that the two opposing sides are about hating trans people's existence versus supporting them.

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 21:07

Looking at the sparti thread there are many posts from people who were not aware of how trans issues can affect them until they came across the thread. Same for the bullshit one. Posters likely clicked as these types of thread are in active, AIBU and chat. They thought trans issues didnt affect them like leccy does but because the threads were on the most used topics they caught the posters attention.
If there was a trans topic then many posters who didnt think the issues affected them would not read them.
As pp said it feels like just another way to silence women and shove them and their silly concerns in a corner.

Thats why i dont want a trans topic.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 01/09/2016 21:08

It goes like this
You have answered the question with your own OP Dione

You
I understand that you don't wish to stifle debate/free speech and all that shit

You
All other trans posts on the site can be deleted, no other threads can be started and I can enjoy the site more

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 21:10

All you do is complain

I am sure some people on here are very much aware of my posting on one of the 'bullshit' threads and have appreciated hearing from a transwoman expressing some of what things are like.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 01/09/2016 21:12

Depends what hat you have on. But you don't like feminists much, that much is clear

IzzyIsBusy · 01/09/2016 21:14

Your not the biggest moaner on here Ego don't worry SmileWink

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 21:15

But you don't like feminists much, that much is clear

I thought there were all different kinds of feminists - just as there different kinds of activists. I thought that was pretty clear from the discussions here - some activists are great, thoughtful, communicative whilst some go in all guns blazing and don't listen to other people.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 21:17

Some activists bully others.Start threads on Reddit about posters. Repeatedly try and silence people. Are offensive,

And some aren't. Don't try and say all activists are the same. Not all feminists are like you that.

Ego147 · 01/09/2016 21:19

But you don't like feminists much, that much is clear

But - for the record - there are some posters on here who I do not like and who I try and avoid when they post. Some of them are feminists.

I am sure the feeling is mutual.

I have no doubt other people have posters they do not like.
