"We don't think that this thread is disablist, it is a valid discussion that we don't think should be shut down. "

yet it has obviously been reported.
cause hurt and upset
how is that making life easier(or better) for the sn community`?

or this message from mn hq
That CBeebies is just far too PC
Thread deleted
Message from MNHQ: Thanks so much for all the reports about this.

Although there has been some interesting debate and discussion, we do agree that the OP and some of what ensues is disablist, so we have decided to delete.

how can these be interesting debates??
\not long ago mn hq said that they were going to be quicker dealing with this stuff
what happened??

Academic, DH is allergic to dog and cat hair. I have suggested shaving an assistance dog, he wasn't keen so no dog for me :(

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 21/08/2016 21:20

(So now he has to do everything I could otherwise get a dog for!)

That too.

Maybe we should get all the dogs to do a naff 'charidee' stunt by shaving themselves in the name of better disability awareness.

Then we could give them all little slogan t-shirts to wear.

?

I must say, I'm offended now
Apparently Deaf ,with a capital D, can describe a hearing person using sign language as their preferred language and they can identify as being deaf and therefore are Deaf.

I find that highly insulting

Stevefromstevenage · 22/08/2016 11:27

Thanks Samcro I would like your question addressed too. It really has not been.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 22/08/2016 11:40

Need, I think (giving wherever that came from the benefit of the doubt...) it refers to eg hearing children who have two deaf parents, so their main language is sign language. It could probably do with a different word though, rather than sticking a capital letter on it!!

NeedACleverNN · 22/08/2016 11:54

A better word would probably help yes

It's very insulting to say I identify with being Deaf because I can sign.

They will never understand how hard and exhausting daily life can be if you can't hear. Everyday things you can hear, I probably can't. I will never forget the day I got a digital hearing aid upgrade from an analogue one. I was hearing things I had never heard before. Things that you would take for granted

NeedAnotherGlass · 22/08/2016 12:42

I agree that it is a ridiculous term.
It would be fine for someone to say that they identify with deaf people or the deaf community because for instance, their parents are deaf, but it is absolutely not acceptable to say that they identify as Deaf.
The capital D is just bollocks.
They are not deaf or Deaf because they can walk away from it and lead a life unaffected by disability.

I can identify with many of the issues that deaf people face because there are similar issues I face as a visually impaired person, but that is a whole world apart from actually having that disability.
"They will never understand how hard and exhausting daily life can be if you can't hear." Change the 'hear' to 'see' and I could have written that.

Another one for the disablist twat list, if anyone else is keeping one;

Very quick Mumsnet, well done.

PigPigTrotters · 22/08/2016 13:13

That's promising.

AliceInUnderpants · 22/08/2016 13:15

Quick, but still no satisfactory response to this thread.

Just5minswithDacre · 22/08/2016 13:16

Yes is quick but, TBH;

Hi all,
Thanks for all the reports, we were coming on to explain our reasons for deleting but see that MadSprocker (incidentally not a new poster and not someone with a record of GFery) is of the same mind. It will go shortly.

was a bit much.

Why, on disablist threads specifically, is it apparently so important that the offenders request or agree to their threads being taken down?

dear mn hq why are so many disablist threads being left up
NeedAnotherGlass · 22/08/2016 13:24

I didn't see the thread - very quick deletion thank you MNHQ
The only thing I would say about the OP agreeing to the deletion is that perhaps it was a genuine question and they really didn't realise that there was an explanation involving disability and had they realised that, they would never have asked. Having not read it, I don't know if the tone of the question was the problem, or the inevitable answers.

honkinghaddock · 22/08/2016 13:27

The op said later on that they were a TA in a special school. Blatant gf.

Just5minswithDacre · 22/08/2016 13:30

Have a look Glass - these are the first three posts the OP made to that thread.
