Message from MNHQ: Thanks so much for all the reports about this.

Although there has been some interesting debate and discussion, we do agree that the OP and some of what ensues is disablist, so we have decided to delete.

how can these be interesting debates??
\not long ago mn hq said that they were going to be quicker dealing with this stuff
what happened??

Dixie... 🙄

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 21/08/2016 16:05

And here is my high horse... 🏇

TheSilverChair · 21/08/2016 16:07

I mare of othering, Ego*.

However, life is very short and I can't get worked up about something as trivial as that joke. Posters saying should be reported to the head etc etc. It was an attempt to raise a smile.

I refuse to join in with the lynching.

There is precious little humour on here these days. MN is becoming depressingly worthy at times. There are serious difficulties facing the world and people with disabilities. A weak joke isn't one of them.

TheSilverChair · 21/08/2016 16:08

*I am aware

A joke in AIBU isn't systematic bullying in school. Totally different, obviously. Getting on one's high horse about a mild joke on FB is ridiculous
You clearly don't get it. A complete lack of empathy for how these "jokes" affect other people.
When you hear the same "joke" about your disability, day in, day out, every single day of your life, please tell me how that is anything other than systematic bullying.

When you are the butt of other people's jokes (who are not your loved ones) because of your disability, can you honestly not see how a large number of people would find that offensive?

Just5minswithDacre · 21/08/2016 16:40

Sorry, skim- reading while jerkily scrolling on phone.

Did I just read that Katie Hopkins thought ASC was about parenting until she was educated by a phone-in caller?

Katie Hopkins recently revealed that she had a child with Autism. THAT will be the cause of her volte face.

Just5minswithDacre · 21/08/2016 16:44

Has not had

That joke. There are jokes that I do think are offensive. That one, I don't.

Jason, she gave a running commentary on Twitter whilst Born Naughty? was on, about naughty brats, useless parents, needing a smack and discipline. I believe this was after her daughter was diagnosed.

Great. You don't. That's your right.

Exactly. And I need no lectures about how I should feel.

It is far too trivial a remark to get uptight about, it really is.

PigPigTrotters · 21/08/2016 17:33

Yes, and read the comments section too - loads of people who think they're right, and a very large number of them offensive, obnoxious twats who think they're right.

The barometer is "what would KH say about this"

If it's something she would laugh at or agree with, you know you've fucked up.

PigPigTrotters · 21/08/2016 17:39

Exactly beyond. Bet she loves Roy Chubby Brown.

TheSilverChair · 21/08/2016 17:41

I'm saying I won't get uptight about it, Ego. Up to others if they do, doesn't change my opinion.

You have become nit picking and tedious, please stop it, it's irritating.

That joke. There are jokes that I do think are offensive. That one, I don't.
Again, YOU don't find it offensive - so what?
You lack any empathy for the many people who have explained very eloquently, why THEY find it offensive.
There are NO lectures about how you should feel. Can you point out any posts where you have been told that you should find it offensive? You can feel how the hell you want about it. But it's irrelevant - just have some empathy for the people who are affected by it.
It is an unacceptable "joke" regardless of how you feel about it.

NeedAnotherGlass · 21/08/2016 17:53

I'm saying I won't get uptight about it
Then stop commenting about it!!
If it doesn't bother you - keep out of it.

Name calling is what people do when they know they are on the losing end of an argument.

I haven't called you a name. I said you were nit picking and you were. Don't make false accusations, it's rude and makes you look very silly.

I really don't know why people are banging on about it here - go to the thread and have a go at all the other people who say they don't find it offensive, including those with hearing difficulties. Don't try to pretend I'm the only one who feels as I do.
