Hello all,

We've added a function to Mumsnset so that you can set up a page about yourself that other people will eventually be able to see when they click your name on Talk. We figured this would work more easiliy better than starting a "member profile" thread, though you can of course still do that if you want to. If you go to the "my registration" link above you can get started from there if you'd like to set up a profile. This is of course totally optional, and only for those as want to do it. A number of people have expressed an interest in being able to do that over the months. If you do want to, remember you can answer as many or as few of the questions as you like.

You can set your profile to be "private" so only you can see it, or visible to all mumsnetters. There's also an intermediate level "Mumsnet mates" that lets you choose who can see it. You can set up a list of "mates" by following the "Mumsnet mates" link and typing their talk names into a box.

You can also set up a photo gallery for any pictures you'd to share with other Mumsnetters. For the moment, you can set these to be either public (any registered Mumsnetter could see them) or private to you. We'll add the intermediate level to them over the next day or so.

Anyway, take a look and, as ever, tell us what you think. It's still a work in progress, so we'd appreciate input on what people think works and what doesn't.

I've set up a sample page about me (must be mad). You can see it here .

Best wishes,
Tech

OK then, I am in the public domain. I am now off to see if downsizing photos is really within my capabilites.

princessmel · 18/01/2007 11:57

Fab Dg!

DumbledoresGirl · 18/01/2007 11:58

Nope, I don't even understand how to install the Windows thing for downsizing! Now you can see what level of technical dunce you are dealing with!

Thanks princessmel!

uwila · 18/01/2007 11:59

Sign here if you don't want the threads you've typed on to appear in your profile.

princessmel · 18/01/2007 12:03

When you try to do it and it says the pics are too small it usually tells you how to resize them and has a link for you to click on and get the free download thingy.

Once you've clicked on that, scroll down and the 'power toy' is on the right hand side.

Click on that and just keep clicking the 'next' boxes to install it.

Then you should be able to resize pics.

Once you find the pic you want, you right click it, then click resize, then choose the smallest option, the bottom one.

HTH

DumbledoresGirl · 18/01/2007 12:06

Sorry princessmel, I know you are trying to be helpful, but I come unstuck at your first sentence. When I tried to upload a photo, all I got was "error!"

princessmel · 18/01/2007 12:09

Ok go to the bit where it says 'photos' on your registration page. It will prob have the link there. Prob my mistake.

DumbledoresGirl · 18/01/2007 12:11

Yes it does, but it is a whole page of gibberish and nowhere is there a big button saying DOWNLOAD HERE as you would normally get.

TBH, I am hesitant to do anything. Dh hates Microsoft with a vengence and I am scared downloading more of their stuff will do something undesirable to our pc.

princessmel · 18/01/2007 12:12

No but scroll down a bit and its on the RHS. It has a highlighted bit you click on .
I'm sure Mumsnet would only suggest safe downloads.

morningpaper · 18/01/2007 12:14

I didn't realise Tech was a MAN

I can't decide if his picture is smouldering or psychotic

DumbledoresGirl · 18/01/2007 12:14

This is the page I get Where do I click?

princessmel · 18/01/2007 12:16

On the bit that says 'image resizer'

It doesn't call it a power toy till you get it. Sorry!!

saltire · 18/01/2007 12:17

When i added my photo of the man i should have married, (as opposed to DH's photo, he's worried about stalkers and online privacy), i didn't resize it, i just downloaded and it said it had resized it for me.

princessmel · 18/01/2007 12:17

Maybe your original photos are smaller than ours.

DumbledoresGirl · 18/01/2007 12:19

Hell, now it asks for my username and organisation! What am I supposed to put there?

saltire · 18/01/2007 12:19

Possibly, it wasn't one i took myself, it was off Goggle! Or google even

KezzaG · 18/01/2007 12:20

DG could you send the photos you want to upload to someone on here, they can resize them and send them back. Will that work?

sandcastles · 18/01/2007 12:21

DG, is fine to download. Did it ealier on mine.

Scrool right down to hte bottom of the page. It's the fifth from bottom on rhs.
ImageResizer.exe

sauce · 18/01/2007 12:21

I think it's only worth doing seriously. Putting stuff on like being 300 yrs old or whatever is a waste of time.

sandcastles · 18/01/2007 12:22

dg, just put any name & leave organisation out, not relevant.

DumbledoresGirl · 18/01/2007 12:24

Right I left both name and organisation out and asked it to put it in the defualt place. It is now supposedly downloaded but I don't know where to find it! Is it one of those icons on the desktop? HELP!!!!

KezzaG · 18/01/2007 12:25

I didnt get an icon, I just went the photo I wanted, highlighted it then right clicked. One of the options is reaixe photo.

DumbledoresGirl · 18/01/2007 12:27

Thanks, just discovered that. So i click small and it is just done immediately? I can't see anything happening as such.

princessmel · 18/01/2007 12:28

Thats right KezzaG.

Just pick your photo and then right click.

princessmel · 18/01/2007 12:28

Well I chose the bottom option as small was still to big. Not sure why.

It should then work.
